The Institute beacon is a weapon in Fallout 4.

Background[]

Developed by Rosalind Orman, these items are prototype beacon marker deployment systems. When deployed, the beacons can be traced by the Institute and used to relay synths to the site of the beacon. Orman notes that the name is a work in progress, and there are only a limited number of beacons available.[1]

Characteristics[]

These beacons can be used during Airship Down to spawn synth reinforcements in a target area; the intended area is the area around Liberty Prime at Boston Airport. They are only available during Airship Down and any leftover beacons are removed from the inventory at the end of the quest.

Location[]

Three are given by Rosalind Orman at the beginning of Airship Down.

Notes[]

  • Because it is only intended for use during Airship Down, this item will have no effect if used outside of the quest (even if extra beacons are spawned via the console.) However, it is functionally similar to the normally obtainable synth relay grenade.
  • If thrown at an NPC, they will turn hostile.
  • A gorilla may spawn instead of a synth.

Rosalind Orman: "No no, they're not grenades! This thing... and I haven't come up with a good name for it yet... It basically deploys a beacon marker. Wherever they land, we can lock on to them and relay synths directly to that position. If there's a hot spot, you can drop synths right on it. We've only got a few of these, so put them to good use. Don't go tossing them into the bay."
The Sole Survivor: "Okay, that's pretty good. I'm impressed."
Rosalind Orman: "I know, right? I mean... Thanks. I thought it was neat. But still, it's just to help."
