Jspoel's view[]

Today I was approached by User:OldWorldBluesIsBest, asking for a SaintPain appeal. This is an appeal to have one's ban lifted after a year has passed in a permanent block. There is a possibility for a discussion but to kill two birds with one stone, I have decided to let him post his defense and ask the community for their opinion. From what I can see he was banned for trolling the Nukapedia e-mail address. Not sure if there were more infractions. But it's been such a long while, more than six years, and he must have been very young in 2017 as he is in college now. So I feel he can have changed significantly, earning him another chance. I ask you to consider his defense honestly and cast your vote. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:36, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Defense OldWorldBluesIsBest[]

Hi everyone. Firstly, I'd like to thank Savior D.J. and Jspoel for setting this up for me and giving me a chance to make my case.

As for the defense. I'm not going to disregard what I did to be banned. I trolled somewhat frequently on the discussions page, would get into prolonged fights with users, and resorted to bullshittery during bans - the emails spring to mind.

As a result of this, in 2018, I was banned for 59 years until 2077; I effectively got perma-banned. I'm not going to excuse what I did, as it was childish and probably resulted in unnecessary headaches for more than just NP staff. However, the keyword there is 'childish.' I was 14 at the time of my final ban, and much of my initial troublemaking was when I was 12 and 13. I was a little shit, and it's reflected in a lot of the comments I made and ways I handled my bans at the time. Frankly, it's miraculous that NP staff put up with me as long as they did.

I'm in my 20s now, and in college, and don't have an appetite for 'internet trolling' or fighting with people I don't actually know. I largely want my account back as it's how I have always used NP - and now Fandom - and having no meaningful access to NP sucks. Fallout is my favorite game series, it's a piece of what got me into writing, and there's often times I wish I could engage with posts on here or make small edits on pages to improve the quality of a wikia that's brought a lot to my own life.

I also contributed a good bit to discussions on here. I was a frequent poster and put a lot into some of my admittedly juvenile fanfictions, debates, and roleplays (mod's choice award winner, hell yeah!). I made a few friends off of NP's discussion forums, and honestly this site in particular means more to me than any other internet blog/forum that I've been to.

I won't wax anymore sentiment at you guys, but I hope when you vote that you keep in mind just how young I was. I regret the things I did that led up to my ban, and if I could go back and get rid of all the cringe things I said I would in a heartbeat. Looking back, I deserved the ban I got, but I have matured so much since then and hope that reflects both in the content of this appeal and in my day-to-day life. 1. Yes No doubter, OWBIB is a good dude and I always felt that the punishment didn't match the offense anyway. Savior DJ (talk) 22:03, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
  2. Yes No doubter. I vote, because upholding the perma-ban after 7 years would teach this user that atoning for his past offenses gets him nowhere. Fluskboat (talk) 22:29, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
  3. Yes Fair and reasonable. No reason to see this person still banned. Good luck, OWBIB. User:ChillKindaGuy (User talk:ChillKindaGuy) 22:50, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
  4. Yes I don't see a problem unbanning them, especially if it's been 6-7 years since the ban. How many of us have done dumb things only to look back on them with cringe. OWBIB rooting for your chance, don't waste it. User:Kevin The Lmanberg Dragon 17:09 15 February 2024 (ECT)

  7. Yes Holding yourself accountable is always an important first step. Up to you to show they're not just pretty words, OWBIB -SkyrimsLord13 (talk) 01:09, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
  8. Yes I see absolutely no reason for this individual to not be unbanned. For someone to be trolling, 6 years is way more than enough for punishment (I believe 1 year would also work). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Turner Blackey (talkcontribs) 02:12, 16 February 2024. 9. Yes more than enough time for someone to change, even if they weren't a child when the offense occured ℳÅℕ☉❂Ⅎ he/him/his 07:29, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

  11. Yes Six years is an extremely long time and people change tremendously in this time span. I did a lot of stupid stuff when I was younger, yet many of the people who interact with me repeatedly have been able to see past it and saw me change and improve. Much of it on this wiki. I would be a hypocrite if I didn't say, lift the block! Tagaziel 13:13, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
  12. Yes i'll forgive a kid for something he did as a little kid sure Anachorite (talk) 15:25, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
  13. Yes I vote yes. I was a little shit as a kid myself too, and I would like to believe I've changed ever since then. User:LadyMystery
  14. Yes I normally don't grant immunity to Zoomers because I myself was banned by a bureaucrat who was gaslighting and playing God. But he presented his case. If he can prove he is a good author I can work with him but if not I will let him go. The point is he is mature he is not a teen normally I ban Zoomers but he has shown he is not under age so I vote to lift the ban and reduce it to a warning. Geomodelrailroader talk

  19. Yes A permaban seems like a severe punishment for what they did, and if they're still willing to come back after 7 years I think they should be given a chance. The Appalachian Mandalorian insignia 17:31, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
