Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard
Shortcuts

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
  • For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

Table of slscool

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

If a user must be reported here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{vandal|Example user}} Your concise reason (e.g. vandalised past 4th warning). ~~~~ in the Block requests section.

If a protection or unprotection request must be requested here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{la|Example page}} '''duration (temporary or indefinite) and protection level''': Your concise reason (e.g. constant spam and vandalism). <nowiki>~~~~ in the Protection requests section.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking the "add topic" button above.

Why do I get blocked?

Last night I was editing the parity issue list, I was adding some important things, it took me about an hour. When I was done and hit save, it didn't let me. Some network error popped up. Now I tried it again, this time I only edited one single line and hit save, it didn't work again, and I received the following warning:

Your action has been disallowed by an automated edit filter. A brief description of the matched rule(s) for your action is: [SOAP] Spam prevention

I wasn't "spamming", I was just trying to add important things that were missing from that page. I would like to know why this happens and how I can continue editing without getting this warning. Hobbylos1 (talk) 12:13, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Short answer: you attempted to add a link to the forked wiki, which is against the Forking Policy.
Full answer: I assume "this time I only edited one single line" is referring to the line starting with "Player's hand and held." However, in your attempted edits, you also touched the line three lines down (the one starting with "Players have an animation"). I'm guessing you copied that line, or maybe the entire General or Animations section, and pasted it on this wiki. However, for whatever reason, this changed the link in that line: it replaced the link in the reference tag (the Minecraft Feedback link) with a link to the reference tag (what happens when you click the little [feedback 1] in the article). Those URLs, by default, take the URL of the current article and append "cite_note-x" to it. Since you were copying text from the forked wiki, that URL was a link to the forked wiki. The AbuseFilter does not allow links to the forked wiki. SLScool 00:04, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

Error on Wild Update page.

On the Wild update page It shows the Warden and the Deep Dark biome, however they are being added in the 1.18 C&CII Update not the 1.19 Wild Update. Can't type Minecraft preset (admin keeps blocking it)

I made new Minecraft preset. I tried to make a new page with the preset, but the admin keeps blocking it, as it says, it has unwanted words. But it was only Minecraft preset. I can't do anything! – Unsigned comment added by Tankazer (talkcontribs) at 13:27, 7 December 2021 (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~

I'm not an admin and have no idea what would've triggered that abuse filter, but the page you're describing is not something that would meet this wiki's notability guidelines, which disallow pages regrading fan-made content. If that's still something you want to get posted to the wiki, it would have to be a subpage of your user pageJEC talk @ 15:41, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
I also changed the filter a bit. I suspect it was causing an issue because of the "lapisSize" property. --AttemptToCallNil (talk) 10:29, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

Undeleting a very old image

On the main page, alongside File:Minecraft.png there used to be another file, File:Minecraft2.png, captioned "Epic cityscapes", which has long since been deleted (and doesn't show up on the internet archive either: http://web.archive.org/web/20090621202937/http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Main_Page). Since this was one of the very first images ever added to the wiki and since its companion is still around and still being used on the classic page, I think it deserves to be undeleted so it can be seen again by the modern world. AlienAgent124 (talk) 07:50, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

Done. –Sonicwave talk 22:05, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks a ton, and while we're on the subject of undeleting old files, I noticed something else: the files File:Cavern 1.png, File:Cavern 3.png and File:AlexVMiner's Spleef Arena.png are some of the only known screenshots of the missing version 0.0.21a_01. However, the user who uploaded these images also uploaded another image on the same day as those three, File:Cavern2.png, which was deleted. This was probably also taken in the same version so it's probably also one of the few existing screenshots of this version, so it definitely ought to be undeleted too.
There's probably at least a few more old deleted screenshots on here that are of versions now lost, but it would be difficult to tell which ones without undeleting them first. AlienAgent124 (talk) 00:30, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
Cavern2.png is just an extremely cropped lava texture.
Feel free to add more files here to look at undeleting.  Nixinova T  C   05:49, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Fix false positives regarding edit filter 50

I have pointed out many false positives regarding edit filter 50, called "Tag character spam", by adding hex colors, such as #333333, #999999, etc., hence I proposed to fix the false positives to that edit filter. DeepLineMadom (talk) 07:27, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

It kicks in, however, only for users with less than 10 edits. I think that's reasonable, and unlikely to generate false positives. Amatulic (talk) 18:15, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

iron golem spawn volume conditions are in conflict in 2 pages for bedrock edition

For Bedrock edition,

wiki says "The golem attempts to spawn in a 16×12×16 volume around the village center defined by a bed or a bell." in https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Iron_Golem#Spawning page.

However;

wiki says "... 16×6×16 volume around the village center." in https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Iron_Golem#Spawning page.

These information are in conflict ! Which one is correct?

I believe your second link was intended to link to the Tutorials/Iron golem farming, where you saw this discrepancy.
Always assume that article pages are more correct than tutorial pages. Articles contain actual technical information based on testing and code examination. Tutorials pages were originally created as a way to keep "how to" advice out of the articles, so that the articles contain only information about the game and not how to play it. Many tutorials are dumping grounds for fancruft and youtube videos, although I've tried to keep some of them clean and up to date, such as the ones about farming drowned, iron golems, axolotls, zombie villagers, and water transportation.
I missed the change for the iron golem farming article. Thanks for pointing it out.
The spawn volume changed after 1.17.30. I have fixed the tutorial page so now they both agree. Amatulic (talk) 17:07, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Error with loot chests

All locations where there would be a table of a loot chest normally instead have this text: "Lua error in Module:LootChest at line 3817: attempt to index field 'rolls' (a nil value)." Not sure what all of that means but I think it needs administrator attention. I have not posted before so please forgive any mistakes in my formatting. HardlyHunter (talk) 00:38, 10 June 2022 (UTC)HardlyHunter

User:AttemptToCallNil made a bunch of edits to the module in the past two days. It may have been the result of that. I left a note on their talk page. Amatulic (talk) 14:44, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
The error was introduced in edit 2136652, I actually fixed it. Because of that edit, several upcoming pool lists became part of ordinary pool lists (they were supposed to be sibling nodes) and were interpreted by the module as one of the pools. Since the upcoming lists ended up empty after the edit, the module crashed due to absence of some critical fields that all pools are expected to have. --AttemptToCallNil (talk) 06:47, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Navigation popups gadget no longer working

Since the recent wiki software update that finished earlier today, the 'navigation popups' gadget (see user preferences / gadgets) has stopped working. I rely on this gadget heavily to preview diffs in my watchlist and in recent changes, and also for patrolling edits.

It would be nice if the {{ping}} template started working with this new update. Testing pinging BDJP007301: Did you get notified of that ping? Amatulic (talk) 16:38, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

I submitted an updated version of the popups gadget for JS review. It worked for me in test mode. As for pings, I'm not sure, but I think the issue is with the custom notification system used, which won't work no matter how much MediaWiki is updated. --AttemptToCallNil (talk) 17:06, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
Navigation popups is now working again for me.
It's a pity about the pings. That is an incredibly useful feature for those of us who 2000 pages on our watch list. Amatulic (talk) 00:17, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
I take that back. Navigation popups appears, but the "mark as patrolled" option is no longer there under the top heading. Amatulic (talk) 00:19, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
That's most likely an upstream change, so if this option is necessary, it will have to be re-implemented by local admins, which is a non-trivial task. --AttemptToCallNil (talk) 03:15, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
Well, the navigation popups gadget had to be implemented by someone in the first place, and it was done originally at my request after I tested it by pulling it in from MediaWiki. That conversation is at Minecraft Wiki:Admin noticeboard/Archive 33#Woohoo! It works. User:Madminecrafter12 originally imported it and made it available in user preferences. The gadget did need some tweaking before it started working really well, particularly with patrolling. User:Majr fixed up that feature. User:Jack McKalling also participated. I guess it needs to be looked at again. Amatulic (talk) 23:43, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

Inappropriate username

There is a user named Minecraft Wiki Administrator which is misleading because the user is definitely not an admin. Is it preferable to rename the account, or should the user just create another account? Fadyblok240 (talk) 02:52, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

Blocked indefinitely. BDJP (t|c) 03:06, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
Is it a soft block or a hard block? If the username is the only problem with the account, then a hard block may not be justified. Sure, the edit made by the user isn't constructive, but we may not know whether the user is editing with malicious intent without letting the user make more edits. Fadyblok240 (talk) 03:10, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
In this case, because the user had "Admin" or "Adminstrator" in their name, it generally falls under a hard block. Some accounts with that word in their username haven’t even edited (or their contributions were deleted) before being blocked. BDJP (t|c) 03:28, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

Important question

Is the official Technoblade easter egg on the Minecraft Launcher allowed on this wiki? (It is an official easter egg from Mojang.) I am having a dispute with another user about this. Minermatt122514 (talk) 21:09, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

I think that you are correct on the matter. Technoblade's crown is a feature built into the game that is important to address in the article, and disallowing it because it's "advertising a youtuber" just seems a bit silly to me. A note to both of you, however (pinging Minermatt122514 and ZaLink700), repeatedly reverting each other's edits over and over, especially spamming ALL CAPS in the edit summaries, is never a way to solve a dispute, and risks being blocked over. Next time, if something like this happens, I'd recommend starting a discussion somewhere to solve the issue, either on that page's talk page or just here (which I'm glad you did do eventually). --Madminecrafter12 (talk) 04:38, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
I sure wish the {{ping}} feature actually did something on this wiki. Amatulic (talk) 15:16, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

Abuse filter

Can you please remove the abuse filter when removing sections? I am redirecting the page Heartstealer to the page Claymore#Heartstealer, and then the abuse filter disallowed me from removing a section. Can you please remove the abuse filter? 110.54.116.150 (talk) at 10:25 UTC July 13, 2022

I'd say no. It would have negative consequences in other situations, and the redirect is bad anyway; there is no "heartstealer" section on the MCD:Claymore page. If you want this done, fix the destination page first and then ask someone with a confirmed account to fix the redirect. Amatulic (talk) 17:57, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

Blocked by automatic filter when trying to edit https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Bedrock_Edition_level_format/Block_entity_format

I attempted to fix a few typos ("postionn" -> "position") and was blocked with the following message:

> Error: Your action has been disallowed by an automated edit filter. A brief description of the matched rule(s) for your action is: Your edit contains an unwanted word. As a new user, your action has been disallowed. If you believe your edit was constructive, please post a message on the admin noticeboard or notify an admin directly. – Unsigned comment added by 80.47.130.203 (talk) at 17:35, 14 July 2022 (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~

I just tried it and it worked for me. I'm not a new user though. And I edited only that section, not the whole page. Maybe there's a word somewhere on the page that's triggering the filter (the word "position" certainly wouldn't). In any case, the spelling error is fixed. Amatulic (talk) 18:13, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
One of the lines changed in the IP's edit included a blocked string inside another word which triggered the abuse filter, even though it was already there and not touched directly by the edit. I'm not sure what would be the best way to prevent these cases without allowing a significant amount of spam through. –Sonicwave talk 22:09, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

It should be fixed now. Just be careful of how you move pages around so that the actual page history stays with the page, instead of just copypasting the contents to the correct location. If you aren't able to move the page directly back to its original title, it may be better to wait for an admin to delete the incorrect pages so it can be restored correctly; or see Wikipedia's instructions on Round robin moves for how to resolve such a situation yourself. –Sonicwave talk 05:35, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

More broken functionality

Since the recent wiki software update a month or so ago, I have noticed, in addition to the "patrol" feature disappearing from the Popups gadget, now diffs no longer have a "thank" option. I found this useful to acknowledge when someone corrected something I did. Amatulic (talk) 04:51, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Comment: It's not broken, bacause it appears on history pages. It seems to be a change made by staff on some config option for the extension globally. We could try to request it to get reverted back to how it was before, but we'd need a good reason anyway. Thejoaqui777 (talk) 13:57, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
The good reason is that it was a useful communication aid that should still be available. Another reason might be that an "upgrade" to wiki software shouldn't result in downgraded functionality.
I never used it from history pages. I use "thank" from diff pages, where it used to work quite well.
As for page patrolling via popups, I do that from my watchlist. I don't recall it ever worked from history pages. Amatulic (talk) 21:50, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
