Misc Radial Quests[]

How exactly should the never ending miscellaneous quests like getting viable blood samples for the brotherhood of steel scribe be placed on the quest page? Not to mention getting their own page or not? Thus spoke Shane for Wax (talk) 10:21, November 27, 2015 (UTC)

The miscellaneous quests are now placed under Fallout 4 miscellaneous quests. It is not resolved yet where to place a quest when it both belongs to the Faction and Miscellaneous sections. --YoDsanklai (talk) 13:58, December 22, 2015 (UTC)

Minutemen Side Quest Correction[]

At the very top of the list of Minutemen side quests is one called "Abernathy Farms: Retribution" which currently has no data. I do not think this quest exists as named and is actually the quest called "Returning the Favor".

I have the Vault Dweller's Survival Guide and it has data for a quest called "Abernathy Farms: Retribution" but does not have any data on a quest titled "Returning the Favor". Also, in the game itself, the quest given to the player when they arrive at Abernathy Farms is called "Returning the Favor". Looking at the data in the guide and on the website for each of these quests reveals them to have the same objective: retrieve Mary Abernathy's locket from USAF Satellite Station Olivia.

I think the title in the physical guide, "Abernathy Farms: Retribution" was the original title of the quest and it was changed at some point.

So the "Abernathy Farms: Retribution" quest should be removed from the listing.

However, I didn't want to just eliminate it in case someone else has info I've overlooked...

Settlement under attack quest bugs? And a Greenskins quest bug:[]

-I have had a Synth attack on Kingsport Lighthouse even though I completed the Main Quest and sided with the Institute. I had to kill the Synths but they didn't turn hostile while I defended the settlement.

-I have a Geenskin quest that I can't unselect and doesn't complete (the objective to "Talk to Preston Gravey" is marked complete but the quest is still active). Macilnar (talk) 13:47, December 3, 2015 (UTC)

-Same here, one of my settlements was attacked. I have destroyed all Synths, but the quest won´t end. Heretic1311 (talk) 21:33, December 21, 2015 (UTC)

Should we replace Achievement Icons with quest icons?[]

Now that each major quest in the game has their own image (well, animation to be exact) shouldn't we put those as quest images in each quest's first column while moving the achievement icons into the Rewards column? I think it would look nicer and we would have less of those ugly gray X-es. --Nayrael (talk) 18:46, December 5, 2015 (UTC)

Institute Quests[]

What is the Institute sidequest "The Replacement"? I see Jspoelstra put it there near the beginning when the page was divided into factions, but I can't find any reference to the quest anywhere else. Even looking in FO4Edit I can't find any reference to the quest. Where did it come from? Anyone have more info? --Xernoc (talk) 20:21, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

Unmarked Quests[]

It seems that someone has removed most of the unmarked quest information from here, which is not great for completionists. I can find them listed on other sites but they only list the quest names. Boo to that person, could it not have had its own "not proper quests" page?

The unmarked quests are now sorted under the "Unmarked quest section". --YoDsanklai (talk) 13:08, December 25, 2015 (UTC)

HalluciGen Exploration and Diamond City's Most Wanted[]

There is a listing for a quest named "HalluciGen Exploration" under the "Side Quests" section but I can find no quest by that name. There is the miscellaneous quest Hazardous Material, which may possibly be what this refers to? If so, this entry should be removed. Also in that section is an entry for "Diamond City's Most Wanted" which is a series of three quests apparently obtained via wanted posters. I haven't encountered these yet, so I can't verify if they actually exist in-game. -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 13:11, December 30, 2015 (UTC)

Missing Unmarked Quests[]

There is an entry for an unmarked quest named "End Game," but there is nothing to indicate what this refers to and no such quest exists in the game files. Does anyone have details on this? Or is it safe to delete? -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 09:40, December 31, 2015 (UTC)

Same question goes for "Holidays." I don't think we need a page for "New Hair, New Face" (actually named "A New You" in the game files) since it isn't a quest so much as a service and we could just put the information on Crocker's page. I don't think we need a quest page for "Phyllis Daily" or "Wicked Shipments" (which I assume refers to the holotapes) since again, all this information is on the appropriate pages already. -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 10:52, December 31, 2015 (UTC)
I think it corresponds to the game's guide. 'End game' -> faction patrols can be seen in Diamond City. 'Holidays' -> visit Diamond CIty market for Xmas, Halloween... We can delete it imo and the content can be featured as notes on Diamond City page.
I will leave "End Game" then until someone can verify it is a legitimate quest and add the page. What I'm finding is that several of these refer to one-time NPC scenes and not actual quests. If there is nothing for the player to do, it shouldn't be listed as a quest. For example: I just tested "Tough Times" which is also missing. But it is just an encounter; nothing for the player to actually do (aside from some unique dialog). If we add every unique encounter as a quest, the list of quests is going to get huge. These types of events should be on the location or NPC page as appropriate. -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 07:07, January 1, 2016 (UTC)

How to get the most experience via main quest[]

The way that nets most experience during the main quest seems to be:

  • First do all the main and non-radiant side quests for the Railroad as you will not be getting the Jackpot and safehouses missions after reaching the Institute and without finishing some of their main quest first, you can't carry on with them later.
  • Progress the main quest and use the Brotherhood to reach the Institute.
  • Get back to the Railroad and do their main quest until asked to continue undercover with the Institute.
  • Finish all the non-radiant side quests for the Brotherhood and continue with their main quest to the point you earn the title of Paladin, avoid the captain, talking to him will make Railroad hostile (If you haven't done all the quests for him, you have to wait until finishing the main quest).
  • Finish all the Institute non-radiant side quests and main quests, inform all sides about the synths during The Battle of Bunker Hill, do not shoot at any combatants and free the synths.
  • Do not let your heart bleed when explaining things to Father and you will keep your Institute status no matter your actions.
  • When later you get the quest Mass Fusion, defect to the Brotherhood when offered (it is tricky to talk to the proctor while avoiding the captain, but it can be done, if you have troubles there, the synth relay grenade can create useful diversion) and finish their quest up to the point where you install the ignition device into Liberty Prime.
  • Do that so you don't have to carry heavy quest item for the rest of your days, but instead pressing the button as prompted go finish the quests Burning Cover and Banished from the Institute you got for double failing as a double-agent.
  • If you want XP for destroying the Railroad, now it is time for talking to the captain, but their aftermatch radiant quests will get you more in the long run, so better let them live.
  • Continue with the Minutemen quests (again you have to talk to proctor while avoiding the captain). The Brotherhood questline will fail eventually.
  • Do not forget to sound the evacuation alarm during the final assault, or Railroad will be hostile to you.
  • After finishing the main quest, Railroad should be friendly provided you informed them about the synths, set the synths free and evacuated the civilians from the Institute.
  • The Brotherhood should be friendly in any case but if you informed them about the synths and plugged the device into Liberty Prime you can be sure of that in any game version.
  • Now you got most of the experience from the main quest and can carry on with the radiant quests from all the remaining factions.

This is a big block of strategy that I removed from the page, but I'm moving it here if anyone needs it as reference for other pages to make notes about how quests interact --Xernoc (talk) 21:31, January 11, 2016 (UTC)

I would need help with this because its written wrong. Thx He2isenberg (talk) 21:46, January 11, 2016 (UTC)He2isenberg

Quest: Search for [something] in [location][]

So at 00:50, December 26, 2015, I added the quest “Search for scrap in Coast Guard Pier” under Miscellaneous quests, to produce this historical page. Today's Fallout 4 quests does not have that quest. Why? --Wisdawn (talk) 11:34, January 17, 2016 (UTC)

The problem is that the quest can be given with almost any location. The name in the game data is "Search for scrap in <Alias=Dungeon>". Since the edid is RETreasureHuntSC04, I think the quest will end up on Treasure Hunt. But yes, this could need a better solution to be able to identify the quest by what is shown on the Pip-Boy. --Alfwyn (talk) 11:45, January 17, 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for explaining. It was confusing at first without understanding this. I’m not sure if this can work, but perhaps an entry like “Search for scrap in [Coast Guard Pier or Location 2 or Location 3]” listing all possible locations, unless they're more than 10 or so. This way, anyone who comes to search for the quest, at least to know who (or what) gave them that quest (that's why I came here to know who gave it to me), then they can find the exact quest in their pipboy as one of the listed ones. Because otherwise, I had no idea that it had to do with Treasure Hunt or notes.--Wisdawn (talk) 12:26, January 17, 2016 (UTC)
How 'bout something like this...

Search for caps in (location)

Find the (weapon) in (location)

...although I'm not sure what all the possible instances of "blah" can be. These don't seem to be in the dump I grabbed from here. -- Aya42 (talk) 12:41, January 17, 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I wouldn't object to seeing something like that on a Wikia page; but perhaps without the duplication of “search for...”, by rather using the phrase once and listing the difference location names afterwards as options. It would be useful so that no one would repeat the same thing I did in the future, requiring more removals or edits and explanations. We should have something that ensures that someone searching for any instance of that quest would find the quest or at least find similar ones that explain to the user that their quest is just one instance of many possibilities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wisdawn (talkcontribs). Well, the idea was to have the info for all five cases align vertically, so it's clear that "Search for caps in (location)" is given by "Raider's note", has base ID "0002bde6" and editor ID "RETreasureHuntSC01". I'm not even certain if it's always of the form "Search for (item) in (location)". They could just as easily go into five separate rows which all link to the same page. -- Aya42 (talk) 13:08, January 17, 2016 (UTC)
I documented the objectives at Talk:Treasure Hunt. --Alfwyn (talk) 13:18, January 17, 2016 (UTC)

( Thanks, Alfwyn. I'll copy the updated version onto the article page. Not sure if the RETreasureHuntSC06_DN070 one belongs on the Treasure Hunt page - perhaps just needs a note on the Find the Treasures of Jamaica Plain page? -- Aya42 (talk) 13:47, January 17, 2016 (UTC)

Another question is: why didn't we add treasure hunt quests that you receive from Bottle message in addition to these quests? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.26.92.138 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Not sure where/how to document that mini-quest (DNMessageInABottleQuest 001da041), all messages just trigger different stages of that one quest. --Alfwyn (talk) 17:15, February 17, 2016 (UTC)

Kellogs gun as a reward item?[]

Considering this is an item found on the body, is it really a reward? If it is should we add Kellogg's outfit? I get that hes the boss of the area and in game there is no other way to meet him. But if you pulled him up with the command console im pretty sure he would have his gun. Likewise if you completed the mission Reunions with the command console you would not get the gun. So the gun isnt really tied to the mission. Again apart from it being on the boss of the area. --Dagbiker (talk) 21:41, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

Presumably follows the same rules as the quest infobox docs, i.e. "Notable rewards received during, or upon completion of the quest". Given that both the gun and the outfit are unique items, they would qualify as 'notable' according to the notable loot policy.
As for whether they're 'rewards', that's debatable. I suppose, technically, you're not forced to take either item in order to complete the quest, but I suspect most players would on a typical playthrough, particularly given that you have to loot the cybernetic brain augmenter from the body in order to complete the quest.
You could probably argue any of the gun, outfit, or augmenter are rewards, or not. I don't have any particularly strong opinions, but personally, I'd list the gun and the outfit, since, although the policy is vague, it does explicitly mention "unique weapons and armor", and both Kellogg's pistol and Kellogg's outfit would seem to qualify. Additionally, without using the console, they can only be obtained during the Reunions quest.
What do you think? Aya42 (talk) 23:28, January 29, 2016 (UTC)
Yah, makes sense, I added Kellogg's outfit, but none of the augmented parts, as they are quest related. --Dagbiker (talk) 00:24, January 30, 2016 (UTC)

XP Award INT base?[]

Is the XP award listed based on 1 INT? (Philbert) 72.128.208.82 02:26, February 25, 2016 (UTC)

It's the base XP value in the game data, which is unadjusted by INT bonus.
INT bonus is +3% per point in INT, or: (base_xp * (1 + (INT * 0.03))).
e.g. base XP of 300 with INT of 7 would be: (300 * (1 + (7 * 0.03))) = (300 * 1.21) = 363 XP.

Troubled Waters[]

The quest Troubled Waters has been moved from miscellaneous quests to side quests. The quest is displayed as a side quest in the game, and not under the miscellaneous section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.164.102.226 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Fritsch gives Cache-ing In?[]

Right now, the page says that also Fritsch gives the Cache-ing In radiant. This is incorrect right? 2001:1C04:1900:3E0:6D6B:9E50:6708:394F 07:18, June 22, 2018 (UTC)

Radiant terminology[]

There is currently a mix of the terms "radiant", "random", and "variable" being used on this page, as well as the individual quest pages, to describe locations that are chosen by the radiant quest system. I would like to unify this terminology, but I want to discuss it with the community before I start redoing everything. I have no preference for which term to use myself. P0cketpc (talk) 10:35, July 3, 2020 (UTC)

If no one has any comments or objections, I will be using "radiant" as I work on cleaning things up, since it's the most common term on this page. P0cketpc (talk) 03:14, July 4, 2020 (UTC)

Restructure page[]

So, there was some debate over "acts" of Fallout 4 on Reddit and this lead me to realization.

Quest page for Fallout 4 is only one with Act Structure, and looking at the revision history it seems that this act structure was copied directly from Polygon article.

Should "Acts" be removed, and just be replaced with "Main quest"? This would be more in-line with other Quest pages that do not posses Acts. Mandemon (talk) 21:21, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
