On October 24-26, 2020, Joshua Sawyer, game director of Fallout: New Vegas, livestreamed himself playing New Vegas on Twitch.tv. The stream was held to honor the 10th anniversary of New Vegas's release and was also a charity event to raise money and awareness for the California Community Foundation Wildfire Relief, as 2020 was a record-setting year of disastrous wildfires for the state. Sawyer raised over $21,000 for the fund during the course of the stream.

Overview and history[]

During the livestream, Sawyer collected donations for the fund and gave away New Vegas memorabilia (for example, Obsidian-made Mojave Express iron patches). He also fielded questions from the Twitch chat about the game and its development, telling stories and providing previously unheard information about the game in Q&A format. Sawyer also used his own personal JSawyer mod during his playthrough.

The stream was held over three days, with one stream per day. The first and second days were both around 7 hours long. The third day was around an hour and a half long. Twitch only stores stream VODs for approximately 60 days before they expire. The exception to this is if the VODs are flagged to be saved and preserved on the streamer's channel; however, this was not the case with the New Vegas stream. As such, the Twitch videos of the stream are no longer available.

Shortly after the stream concluded, these three videos were mirrored onto YouTube by the channel Lie Low. Lie Low was the only provider of the stream after the Twitch VODs expired (other channels had made individual highlight clips, but Lie Low was the only channel hosting the full, uncut videos). However, in late 2021, Lie Low's channel was permanently suspended by YouTube. This automatically made the stream videos unavailable.

In November 2021, YouTube channel XBEStation reuploaded the first day of the stream, having recovered the video from the Wayback Machine (the Wayback Machine has an archived video of the first day, but not the second and third). XBEStation made public calls for anyone who still had copies of the second and third days. In May 2022, YouTube channel Nigel McKernan reuploaded the third day, having found a copy of the video on a personal hard drive.

For a considerable period of time, the second day of the stream was not re-uploaded anywhere and thus was considered lost media. Those seeking information from the second day had to rely upon very brief Twitch clips or text notes taken at the time of the stream. However, in July 2023, the second day of the stream was uploaded to YouTube by MyFavReuploads (Nukapedia user New1337), thereby resolving a 2+ year-long piece of lost media.
