Red Rocket Collectrons, also referred to simply as Collectrons, are Collectrons in Appalachia. They are unlocked with the Red Rocket Collectron station.

Background[]

The Red Rocket Collectron is a pre-War gas station service robot whose primary use was to service people's cars and refuel them. It appears to run on a small fusion engine, as whenever it stands idle near its pump station, it will occasionally grab the pump handle and refill its reactor in its chest. It plays automated advertisements that encourage patrons to buy goods sold at the station.

Notes[]

  • A plan for the Red Rocket Collectron and its station was released with the Fallout Worlds update, able to purchased from Samuel for 4000 gold bullion.
  • The robot's reactor appears to be very inefficient, as it runs low on coolant in a matter of minutes and uses the coolant pump to refill itself, which would not be very profitable for the stations, as the robot gets its coolant free of charge.

Appearances[]

The Red Rocket Collectron appears only in Fallout 76, introduced in the Steel Reign update.

Behind the scenes[]

The Red Rocket Collectron was based on a piece of concept art for Fallout 4 featuring a robot in a Red Rocket advertisement. The art was featured in The Art of Fallout 4, and a copy of it was hanging on a wall in the Bethesda offices. Art director Jonathan Rush thought that it would be a cool idea for a Collectron, and the idea was fleshed out by other developers from across the team, from animation, art and design.[Non-game 1] For example, quest designer Carl McKevitt contributed to the Red Rocket Collectron's design and dialogue.[Non-game 2]

Jonathan Rush: "Yeah, so, there was... I'm not sure who the original artist was, it was one of the concept artists, I believe, for Fallout 4, had painted out this robot, just like a waist-up for a Red Rocket commercial. And I think it was hanging up by our coffee machine in the office or something, and I was like 'you know... that would make a really cool Collectron.' [laughter] 'So... let's flesh out the rest of it.' We drew out- concepted out the rest of the Collectron, had that built out, collaborated with animation and with design on what type of personality this character would have, how it recharges, right? How it goes up to the kinda Red Rocket station and plugs itself back in, the head sort of bobs up and down..."
Kenneth Vigue: "The animation of that is so cool."
Jonathan Rush: "Yeah, so, y'know, kind of inspired by an idea from art that had been done internally for a previous iteration of Fallout. And then expressed that idea to the different disciplines, and everybody just kinda gets together, and... there you go."
