The last few years SHRM has truly been a disappointment for the HR community but to see them removing equity from their offerings is harmful. Inclusion or equality without equity takes us back. What’s the difference you may ask? Remember when there was a pizza party at school and you got those tiny little pieces well think about getting a tiny piece of pizza and everyone around you got half a pie. That’s the difference. Removing equity isn’t the answer and only fuels pay inequity and other gaps. I’m completely enraged that SHRM put out a public statement like this with a minority CEO at the helm of the organization. At a time where it’s pivotal to stand firm in DEI views the literal society of HR decides to go along with harmful discourse. Unfortunately, most of us have experienced manipulation at work- a 'two-faced' colleague or a leader who takes advantage of our desire to grow and succeed. Well friends, I failed. As of midnight on Wednesday morning, I’ll be homeless. Despite my best efforts, I haven’t been able to find a job, and my options for housing have fallen through for various reasons. But in a twist of fate, my background in recruiting – finding people who don’t want to be found – came to my aid. I managed to get in touch with an extended family member who has offered me a spot on their couch in their one-bedroom apartment. So, next week, I’ll be heading back to my favorite state, this time to Sacramento. I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has shown empathy, shared kind words, and provided real help as my situation unfolded. Your support has been invaluable, especially considering the intentionally mean and hurtful private messages I recieve, which often leave me in tears. Why some choose to add insult to injury, I’ll never understand. If you’re wondering, “What’s next?” or “How can I help?” – the answers are still the same. 1) I don't know 2) Help me get a well-paying job, or provide financial support without expectation it be returned. And remember, sending people in TA & HR job postings isn't meaningful help.
