My wife and I just got back from vacation without the kids…the first time that’s happened in 3 freaking years. I was counting down the minutes until we boarded the plane and was prepared to soak up every ounce of relaxation and zen that was coming my way. Add to the fact that we were celebrating my wife’s birthday, so you do what anyone who hasn’t been on a vacation in forever does, you look at the list of the Top 10 Hotels in the world and you figure out what makes the most sense. The verdict was the One&Only Resorts (Mandarina) in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. An area that we love, but somewhere that felt completely different because it is a literal jungle perched on cliffs atop the Pacific Ocean with eco-friendly treehouses and villas, first rate restaurants, a bonkers looking spa, and a litany of experiences to mix things up. This vacation delivered in every imaginable way. When you go to a hotel that ranks so highly you try to observe what makes that place so special and while there is no shortage of reasons, it really boils down to hospitality. That is the very service that it offers after all. With every encounter and conversation of the 500-person staff that I met, each person made sure that we were having an incredible experience and made sure to check-in to see what else could be done to make the trip feel special? I love banter and will jump at any chance to practice my Spanish, so I had A LOT of conversations and what was clear was the staff was genuinely happy to come to work each day because the hotel and the landscape felt so magical. As someone who has worked a desk job my whole life, I can imagine the positivity and energy that fills your day when you’re staring at magical surroundings every day. It’s easy to block out the chaos of life. What I also started to realize though is that you don’t need to transport to an idyllic environment to manifest good vibes and optimism. Sometimes the spirit of the people and the culture can have that same affect on the environment. Checking in with people to see how they are doing can do wonders. You don’t need to work in hospitality to be hospitable. Community Management is such a weapon that separates companies and cultures, but it unfortunately feels to often like an afterthought because it requires real time and real commitment. When done right, you get people jumping on LinkedIn to spread the gospel for you and pique the interest of others. #OneandOnly #vacation #hospitality #perspective

One And Only is the best. It’s the only hotel we will go to in Cabo. We had the same experience with the service. It is truly restorative. Like your trip, that place is a “parents only trip” for us. Glad you had such a wonderful time!
