Reason: just plainly called "Geode" as a configured feature - see also the reasoning on mossy cobblestone boulder. User-12316399 (talkcontribslogs)13:30, 13 February 2021‎

Weak oppose Just the word "Geode" may confuse some new users. "Amethyst Geode" is more specific, and therefore less confusing. Although they are internally known as geodes. --Illagercaptain (talk | contribs | website) 01:17, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Strong support. The word "geode" won't confuse anyone; the word has just one meaning: a secondary geologic formation within volcanic and sedimentary rock. "Amethyst geode" is needlessly redundant if there's only one kind of geode in the game. The fact that the formation is designated "geode" internally is a strong argument for renaming the article. Absent any official alternate naming from Mojang, we have no business making up a name, and should use the known internal name that Mojang uses. Amatulic (talk) 02:33, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Neutral. While I support moving because "geode" is its internal name, I also oppose due to the changelog reffering it as "amethyst geode" TheGreatSpring (talk | contribs) (Tagalog translation) 02:49, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Oppose. The structure is refered to as "amethyst geode" by official sources (such as the changelogs).  Support for a redirect given that it's also sometimes refered to as just "geode", and it's its namespace ID. Pescavelho (talk) 08:13, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Strong support. In-game names should take priority over other sources if possible. Other structures are referred to by ID.--Canarussia (talk) 15:23, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Strong support. I agree, it is confusing and amethyst is hard to spell. 174.62.155.94 17:00, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Oppose. I have same opinion as Pescavelho. xrup (Talk) Magma Cube jumping 17:42 26.2.2021
Support with consistancy with canyon and ravine. Canyon is the actual name, therefore the cave title. However, in some tweets by Henrik Kniberg, he says ravine. Also consistant with forest rock. Only thing preventing me from strong support is the fact that it is mentioned by official sources, not just developer tweets.Humiebeetalk contribs 13:36, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Weak oppose It was introduced as "Amethyst Geode" in MINECRAFT Live, so I am not comfortable with changing the name. Pneuma01 (talk) 15:55, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Neutral. Ibjmo (talk) 21:55, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Weak support I mean, as long as we leave a link... MetalManiac at your service fellow human! (talk) 09:07, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Strong support We could make this page a redirect VillagerCraftMC (talk | contribs | cheeseburger) /give @a emerald 11:56, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Support It presents it as a configured features. Same opinion as Amatulic--Ziad El-Moursy (talk) 07:53, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
Strong Oppose Amethyst Geode Is More Specific, Is Less Confusing, And Sounds Better Andexter (talk) 15:23, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
Strong Oppose While It is true that it's referred to as "geode" internally, Mojang have been referring to it as "Amethyst Geode" in their feature showcases and changelogs. I also think it's a good idea to keep it as Amethyst Geode as I believe most people are referring to them like that when talking about it, youtubers in their videos (This is important as the majority of players don't read the changelogs, instead they watch videos on it.) and such. And on top of that, Minecraft's playerbase has a lot of children and they might get confused if it's referred to as "Geode" instead of an "Amethyst Geode" in the minecraft wiki. OxygenMolecule2 (talk) 12:56, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
Support That's its name in the game files, and the Mojang devs have used it in some changelogs. I don't think reading "geode" instead of "amethyst geode" would confuse anyone, and there's no need to be more specific as it's the only kind of geode in the game.--Capopanzo (talk) 17:35, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Strong Oppose I don't think anyone will ever come to the wiki, looking for some generic "geode" and if that should happen, that's what redirects are for. These geodes are only searched for in relation to amethyst. Right now if someone types in "Amethyst..." they'll see not only geodes, but shards and everything else that's relevant to amethyst in the drop-down suggestions. It's officially called "Amethyst Geode" everywhere where it's spoken of, so obviously it would be unhelpful to rename the article to anything else. It may be called just geode in the game files somewhere, but that's obviously just for coding convenience and it's never meant to be seen by the players. GMRE (talk) 19:39, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
Oppose Who knows if any other types of geodes will be added in the future? Why make more work now (renaming) when there is a possibility for just "geode" to become not just a single structure in MC now but several in the future? Nilbadimo (talk) 17:16, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
As of the latest "vanilla_worldgen" (1.18-rc4) template provided by Mojang employee slicedlime, this configured feature has been renamed from "geode" to "amethyst_geode" Deshman-gpuser (talk) 11:54, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Locating in older games[]

Just checking, this will only generate in new chunks in 1.16 games that are now running in 1.17, right? Existing chunks will not get amethyst diodes, right? Legolas Elf (talk) 06:05, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

That's right. If you've explored a large area of your 1.16 game, you will need to go beyond previously-generated landscape to see the new stuff.
That happened to me in my current game, which I started in 1.14 or 1.15. I had to travel far to find a ruined portal, which would have normally been nearer if I hadn't explored so much of my world before 1.16 came out.
Exceptions are mobs. Since the 1.17 update I'm now seeing axolotls around the monument I'm conquering. I suspect they already killed the elder guardians in the wings so I don't have to (I'm not getting hit with Mining Fatigue anymore). Amatulic (talk) 15:11, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

Move request[]

According to MCW:CAPS, I think it should be moved to Amethyst geode.--Chixvv (talk) 10:10, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
