Y-17[]

I'm wondering here about the Y-17 trauma override harness article. It's tagged for wikification into a creatures page, but in the notes it says that it's coded as a non-human NPC. I've got all the coding done for a wikification if needed, I just thought I'd check with you beforehand. If we decide to wikify it, I have two queries:

Could you fill out the blanks in their infoboxes? I happen to lack the GECK.
They would be FNV creatures, right? As they're not counted amongst robots for any other reason, they're unaffected by EMP and they gib.

Well Jspoel, I am stopping editing here completely now (apart from to make sure Sannse repects Ausir's copyright), so I just wanted to say goodbye. Of course, I hope that this is not a permanent goodbye, and I will endeavour to make sure that it isn't, but for now I wish you luck if you do decide to stay. Yes... it has lost some of its' appeal, hasn't it? The logo arguments are akin to court proceedins, but I feel that we're going to win this "case" seeing as we have Tagaziel, a lawyer seemingly adept in U.S. copyright law. But if you're feeling blue and unmotivated to work on the wiki because of these proceedings, the solution is quite simple: don't read the wiki digest and get caught up in the mess. Just go about you daily routine like you couldn't care less about them. If you don't let it get to you, it won't. You have been urging Sam to do a poll like that. Only problem is the different tastes from person to person. Someone may think one is the sexiest NPC ever, and others may not be able to look at them for more than five seconds without losing their lunch. Trouble on the Homefront[]

I didn't say Butch was the only one that was seen again in the wastes after you sabotage the vault.

The Destroy the Vault section used to say: "Everyone is forced to evacuate the vault and you will see them spread out in the Wasteland (you lose Karma for this)." and: "Other Vault 101 members will be scattered throughout the Wasteland as well and will unsurprisingly be hostile towards you."

Furthermore, it mentioned Amata as being seen in a random encounter, and Freddie Gomez as appearing as a corpse in a random encounter, should you have chosen to destroy the Vault. Butch was mentioned only at "notes". So Amata, Freddie Gomez and Butch were the only three people mentioned individually on the page.

The truth however is, as soon as you sabotage the Vault, the Overseer will approach you in the reactor room. When you then leave the reactor room the Vault is completely empty of people and only Amata will be waiting for you at the door. You will see no one spread out in the wasteland. Furthermore, there are no "other Vault 101 members being scattered throughout the Wasteland" who "will unsurprisingly be hostile towards you". It's just Amata (not hostile), Butch (possible companion) and the Gomez family (dead). For that reason I removed those two sentences.

Also, I added Butch, Pepper Gomez and Herman Gomez to the list of characters that were seen again in the wastes, after you sabotage the vault, besides Amata and Freddie Gomez. The page is correct as it is right now.

Things like this doesn't break friendships, not with me at least. I really don't like how people are starting to view it as us and them. To much of a divide going on atm for my liking. As for the images, I have no issues at all, especially if proper attribution is credited. As for here, I am generally staying out of decisions that affect the future, letting those who are going to be making the major contributions decided there fate. The only thing I am going to be doing is to ensure that the basic principles of this wiki are upheld in that decision making process, instead of puppet actions by Wikia.

I very much appreciate all the effort you've put into this place, and although I've had a little friction here, I'm happy to be part of all this because Fallout is very much deserving and worth it. Keeping an eye out...[]

I'll keep it in mind, but all this couldn't've come at a more stressful time. All I do now-a-days is study for exams in the end of the semester, so just keeping an eye on chat is work enough, to be quite honest. Minigun[]

Ya, it's a peeve. Even though I've read the main minigun article a few times now, I still do a double take when it's referenced as a CZ53 personal minigun. When I see the full name listed unnecessarily, it makes me think that a unique version is being referred to instead of the standard type.

Since the standard minigun is never referred to by its model designation in game, except perhaps briefly, I change the references when I come across them to reflect the common name usage. Readers that haven't played many of the other fallout titles are not likely to recognize the full name reference when used, making the added specificity cause more confusion rather than clarity.

So, unless there is greater consensus against it, I'm going to err on the side of clarity as to what players are going to see in the game they are playing, and leave the detailed naming conventions for a subject's main article page or the transcluded content added to a title specific page. --Xclockwatcher 17:06, November 28, 2011 (UTC)

Marked Men[]

You could've simply asked me to restore it ;) I wasn't trying to do any harm, I simply wanted to remove stuff which might break with later Wikia updates.

The stuff I removed only affected the dashboard header though; the change in color for the edit page header was due to Wikia's latest update. I've made it the same as the dashboard header. -- Porter21 _(talk) 18:32, December 3, 2011 (UTC)

I think the edit page header was a light grey tone before the Wednesday update. I'll look into it and return that color if that's what you want.

Personally I'd agree to let you use my work, even if only as a personal favour, but I'd like to check back with Avatar and Ausir first. Alright, after talking to Ausir and Avatar, here's my suggestion:

You can use my templates if attribution is provided.
- For updates to existing templates (i.e. templates which were present at the time of the fork), it'd be sufficient to export/import the templates so they're automatically attributed to me.
- For new templates (i.e. ones which were created after the fork), I'd request a copyright notice similar to the Wikipedia one ("This content was originally submitted to the Vault" etc) be added to the bottom of the template documentation which links back to the origin page on falloutwiki.com. I'd create this template if you want me to. Similarly, if we'd use any stuff from this wiki, we'll add a similar copyright notice.
You can also use my scripts if attribution is provided, i.e. I'd request the present attribution to be changed to falloutwiki.com when they're updated. I don't think this will be happen frequently in the near future because of the MW version/skin difference, but I suppose we might as well settle this while we're at it.

I think you'll understand that I'll not be providing any further support; the bot runs necessary to implement the template changes will be up to you/Grunny. Since it's you who's asking though I'd be willing to provide the basic pywikipedia script I'm using for the infobox conversion if you want it, i.e. the script containing the changes necessary for all infoboxes ("px" -> "image size" etc). Grunny would then only have to add the changes which are specific to certain infoboxes (like renamed parameters).

On a side note, I think we should probably reach a general agreement regarding using content from the respective "other" wiki, but I guess that's something for a forum discussion.

I down loaded & played that piece of crap game not because I wanted to but because I was asked to, so I could help edit those pages.

Just because the folks who posted those poorly written characters used reference notes dose not make them flawless. All I did was try my best to fix the obvious mistakes.

Templates and scripts[]

I've created the copyright template: {{Copyright The Vault}}. It works similar to {{Copyright Wikipedia}} in that you can specify the origin page(s) on The Vault. By default, it'll assume that the original page on The Vault has the same name as the one it's placed on here. It should work for both files and normal articles; it'll display a slightly different text for files.

Regarding the appearances, I can't quite follow you right now - Mysterious Stranger's appearances aren't blank, there are 4 games listed? I also don't quite understand what you're trying to accomplish with the "combined" abbreviations, but I can tell you that this would require rather substantial modifications to the abbreviation-based templates since they are all built on the basic assumption that one abbreviation equals one game.

Ah, you're referring to the supertitle. Well, the limit is in place to prevent the supertitle from becoming too long and not because the underlying template can't support more abbrevations (it supports up to 10 abbrevations actually). However, since I no longer actively contribute to this wiki I'll leave it up to you whether you want to remove/increase the limit or not. If you want to modify it, simply search for {{abblink|limit=3 when editing Template:Infobox - the number controls the maximum number of abbrevations which can be used before the supertitle reverts to "Character".

Please be aware though that you'll have to re-apply this change whenever you import an updated version of Template:Infobox since I'm not going to remove the limit on The Vault. I'll eventually change it to display a hover menu (similar to {{Tl|Games}}) with links to all overview pages when the limit is exceeded.

Machete Gladius[]

It has been brought to my attention that the rules specifically forbid the correlation of real-world weapons upon the articles of in-game weapons, with the exceptions of developer confirmation or a shared identical title. I realize this now and don't wish to supersede regulation, but there should be an equal exception for appearance as well as title. My case-in-point: the Machete Gladius and its game model's actual origins, the Kukri. My argument is that the Machete Gladius page should include a note (which I mistakenly tried to add without being aware of the aforementioned guideline) that it is neither a machete nor a gladius; the prominent opposition to this is high-ranking user Great Mara.

Though Mara holds very legitimate points, their insistence to only uphold the rules rather than do that and suggest alternatives to their fellow Fallout enthusiasts is concerning to say the least. I'm not attempting to validate some ego-trip or make believe I'm above the rules due to prior ignorance of them, yet if Mara and the mods did a bit of research, they'd see that my attempted posts on the Machete Gladius are not speculation; it's obviously neither a machete nor a gladius. Whatever it is in tangible form, it is neither of those objects, and the Machete's notice of resemblance to a lawnmower blade seems to violate the same principal. This is why I question the selective nature of the rule.

All I ask is that the guideline is altered slightly to be more consistent with both appearance and names, or for notes not to exclude speculation (or in this case, blatantly obvious fact). I will not harbor anger, grudges, or malicious intent for the wiki or its users if this request is denied, I only hope that because I took the time to write it out and made my arguments distinguished without abrasive or profane language, it's taken seriously into consideration. Until then, I've sent J.E. Sawyer a question on Formspring in an attempt to settle this rationally - an alternative that Great Mara conveniently forgot to mention. --TheMedic501 08:35, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

Reading GECK stats[]

Going through the stats for characters (although I only have the data from the base game on my PC sadly) and noticed that on some characters they don't have the tag skills immediately shown unless I click the window 'Auto calc stats' and then it changs to match the other formats for most of the other characters. Can I edit in the highest skills shown as their tag skills or would that be wrong?

Also, noticed some characters don't have things like gameplay statistics filled out (such as Atticus), should I got ahead and fill those out? ^Message 20:29, December 16, 2011 (UTC)

Cool/WHAT THE CRAP! glitch possibly found[]

Hello again Jspoelstra, I was just playing fallout new vegas and I decided to wipe out the legion with the CZ57 Avenger that I had just acquired. Having ran out of ammo in the process of killing Dead Sea, I drop the unique minigun from my inventory and take out another weapon and dispatch the two remaining legionaries. Then, much to my surprise when i loot their bodies, the two Recruit legionaries both have a CZ75 avenger in their inventory. Even more surprising is that one is in the condition when I dropped it and the others condition is at 99%. Has anyone else found this glitch? Yes, you may use my content here; it would be awfully hypocritical of me if I didn't allow it. Yes, splitting can be a tedious activity, but I've come to like it.
