Rivet City, last bastion of civilization, where the penalty for violating the marketplace curfew is summary execution. Ok, whatever.[]

When you put it that way, it does seem a bit extreme... --FFIX (talk) 19:15, October 1, 2012 (UTC)

Why USS Oriskany image is used[]

Because it is well known and recognisable:

  • While berthed at Mare Island in rusted and decrepit condition, ex-Oriskany was used as a setting for the Robin Williams film, What Dreams May Come (1998) as part of the representation of Hell.
  • The 2006 Discovery Channel feature Sinking of an Aircraft Carrier documented the environmental preparation and sinking of the Oriskany (for artificial reef purposes, EPA consulted).

CV/CVA-34, an Essex-class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. Following twenty-five years of service, Oriskany was decommissioned 30 September 1976 and laid up for long-term storage in Bremerton, Washington. The ship was maintained as a mobilization asset, for possible future reactivation through the 1980s during the Reagan administration's naval force build-up. At the end of the Cold War and the subsequent reduction of the U.S. Navy's active force, Oriskany was recognized as being obsolete and was struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1989. Her hull was stripped of all equipment that could be reused or recycled.

General characteristics:

  • A glitch in Pip Boy's World Map happens if you go from Seward Square (Southeast) to Anacostia Station at Rivet City. Before clicking to open the Anacostia gate, bring up the World Map and it will show that you are near Seward Square. (If it doesn't, cross the platform and go out the Seward Square gate and come back.) After you exit the Anacostia gate, bring up the World Map again and it shows that you have jumped some number of miles down to Anacostia when all you have done is walk no more than a couple of hundred feet. A similar glitch can be seen at the back door of the GNR building plaza.
    • That's because when youre inside a building, sewer, etc. it doesnt show u moving on the world map, look at the local map instead. Sgt. Me 12:59, June 24, 2011 (UTC)

The last Essex-class aircraft carrier[]

USS Lexington (CV/CVA/CVS/CVT-16) was decommissioned 8 November 1991. On 15 June 1992, the ship was donated as a museum and now operates as the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay at 27.815° -97.389, 2914 North Shoreline Blvd, Corpus Christi, Texas. A MEGAtheater (similar to IMAX) was added in the forward aircraft elevator space. Lexington was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2003. The ship is carefully maintained and areas of the ship previously off-limits are becoming open to the public every few years. One of the most recent examples is the catapult room.

The Sci-Fi Channel's original series, Ghost Hunters did an investigation of the USS Lexington after several reports of strange activity aboard the ship. TAPS concluded that the ship had some paranormal activity, but not enough to determine it haunted.

The Armoury[]

Playing the PS3 version the door to the armoury was unlocked and there was a turret firing on me, if i stand in it's view there then private jones eventually goes hostile, as did harkness. i reloaded after this but presumably everyone should go hostile, this is what happnened when i inadvertedly killed Simms when i first started out :P

P-50 ShootingStars or T2V/T-1A SeaStars?[]

Well seeing as this is a Navy ship, isn't there a chance that the Aircraft on the Deck of it are T2V / T1As used from 1957 to the 70s by the Navy?

Also, both Aircraft look alike apart from the cockpit and being slightly shorten http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/TV-2_T2V-1_NAN6-55.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:P80.600pix.jpg

After a brief discussion on the IRC channel the P-80 shooting star was chosen.

midshiped buged[]

i cannot load the midship deck, i havnt been able to since i completed replicated man. i managed to get myself onto the deck but it just freezes in around 5 seconds. any way to fix this?

I Had that this morning, my ps3 would lockup and i had to turn it off. I went to the Stairwell, exited to Rivet City and jumped into the water and i didn't get a freeze, quickly traveled to Megaton. Also i fired Fawkes since i read on here he gets stuck in Rivet City alot ... i hope this helps for people who encounter this bug in the future or even have it right now, cause ... it was torture since i love this game so much ...

Exits from Market to Ship locked[]

Exits from inside the Marketplace to the midships are locked no matter what time of day (Not the doors to the market being locked because it is closed). Suspected cause is bypassing/sassing Harkness at the initial scripted conversation. He's in the Market and willing to talk, but with his indoor dialogs. Access to midships is possible via the outside stairwell entrance.

Question and Statement[]

Question: where is the armory and where is Danvers' key used? Statement: the present of antique aircraft on the flight deck is consistent with my experiences visiting the USS Lexington museum Tour86rocker 01:59, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Isn't that the Rivet City main Armory? Should be up near the top of the control tower.

Possible Glitch at Market Place.[]

I ran into a trespassing problem at the market place. The market door unlocked at the proper time and I entered. Right away Banon ran up to me and told me that I should not be there and that I should leave. I walked to Gary's and they were all the merchants were sitting there eating breakfast. I was able to buy and sell to Flak, but when I tried to wait the pipboy told me that I couldn't wait while trespassing.

I left, waited a day, went back and everything was back to normal. Anyone else have this issue?

I encountered this atleast three times.Yet,I was doin' Jet,so you may wanna ask someone else. HuangLee 03:25, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

This is a reasonably common issue, especially if you enter toward the end of the day. I think the problem seems to be that the market closes before the doors lock. JAPH42 05:38, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

@JAPH42: This wasn't at the end of the day, but in the morning at 8am (or whenever the market opens for business). Perhaps I entered the door just as another person was exiting, and the time wasn't quite right yet. --Ayumix 14:23, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I encountered this glitch when I waited for 16 hours in the marketplace, between 4pm-8am. Could that have been it?

Notes[]

I removed the Yield sign being a possible reference to the Pearl Jam album 'Yield.' It's clearly one of many American road signs in the room, not a reference.

Dead Characters returning over the Bridge[]

I was starting to get good karma and was trying to maintain neutral so I killed a few people in rivet city, the youngs I believe was there name, plus I also killed some of the security guards. a few ingame days later and I walked out of the market place to the exit bridge and everyone that I had killed was standing there. I ran back to check the hallways they had died in and each of their bodies were still lying there... Now would that be a bug? Munsterd Oslam 14:18, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Upper decks VS Lower decks[]

Alot of conversation options with the denziens of Rivet City refer to some class struggle between the Rich upper deck folks and the poor lower deck ones. is this worth mention? I don't know if this ultimately leads to anything, but I didn't notice it until after Broken Steel was installed. Anyone know more?

That conversation thread is there from the start of the game. It has nothing to do with Broken Steel being installed. The conversation must be related to a quest which did not make it to final release.67.172.16.255 17:25, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Freezing[]

my game has frozen several times when i use VATS about 1 and a half seconds after travling there. it starts to zoom in on some1 entering the door and freezes since they are gone i think or because it tries to aim at the gaurd at the top of the tower but either way24.226.59.126 02:00, November 12, 2009 (UTC) Me

Evil Patient?[]

Get the Lawbringer perk, and kill the patient in the doctor's clinic. He will have a finger on him! Does anyyone have an idea why this might be?--'Meester SHOGUN450 ROAR! 04:00, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

Do you want the real reason or an in-game one? The most likely real reason is that characters are evil by default, and the level designer neglected to switch the character to a good guy. A good in-game reason would be that he is evil: Perhaps he was working with Sister, or Dr. Zimmer? Maybe he's a spy for the Raiders, it was mentioned at some point that the raiders used a spy in Megaton. However, I haven't seen any evidence as to who the patient is, nor any other information about him, so there's nothing to really go on. —ErzengelLichtes (Contribs) 05:55, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

Path to Rivet City avoiding combat?[]

Is there a path to Rivet City from Megaton such that you can avoid all hostiles? I am at level 3 and I only want to grab the Bobblehead at this time. My first couple of tries I attempted to travel south to the playing boundary then east but still encountered health zapping enemies. 68.28.41.227 21:19, December 7, 2009 (UTC)Alexi

In the Wasteland there are no safe places, but the fastest is the subway from the underworld the rivet city (having a marker at rivet city will help) - RASICTalk 21:57, December 7, 2009 (UTC)

The easiest way is to head east from Megaton until you hit the river. Then just swim down the middle of the river (to avoid a Mirelurk on the coast) all the way south and wrapping around back to Rivet City. Be sure to watch out for the super mutants holding a captive that is south of Rivet City (since you will be coming north to Rivet City when you leave the river and might pass it). Access to Rivet City[]

For some strange reason I cannot gain access to rivet city. I was sure last time I played the game, there was a bridge that was to be crossed and then you can enter, but this appears to be stored against the side of the ship.

I know that there is an entrance in the bow of the ship but i am unable to pick the lock as my lockpick skill is not high enough.

Is there any reason for this?

You have to use the intercom. They'll move the bridge over and it will then remain that way and you'll never have to use the intercom again. Said intercom is at the top of the stairs, where the bridge wills swing out to. 98.173.60.178 03:19, December 17, 2009 (UTC)

Megaton to Rivet City[]

Is there any easy or anyway to get to Rivet city form Megaton WITHOUT going through DC? I don't want to go running like mad through DC just to get there!

Yeah, just swim down the river. Take a couple of radaways with you though, and make sure you keep beneath the surface, only surfacing briefly to breathe. Because its so murky, you should set map waypoints. But the most important thing to remember is to sign your posts. Ishotamaninnewreno 00:48, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

Living Sucide Fall[]

I was at the top of the Bridge Tower, and I jumped clear of the city and landed in the water and LIVED! That was wicked! Try it!

You can do the same at Arefu,or any tall bridge with deep water underneath.I'ts quite an adrenaline rush.I always do it whenever i get the chance. :)Leea 20:23, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

As do i, the amazing "JASPER42". It's a useful shortcut or a escape after helping Mr Lopez kill himself.

Guns and Bullets?[]

The Guns and Bullets page says there is a copy of the book here, but I can't seem to find it and this page doesn't mention it at all. Also, the description is rather unclear: "In Midship Deck Living Quarter. Down the hall of Common Room." Can anyone give a more specific location, or at least tell me the difference between the Living Quarter and the Common Room? Someone may also want to update the Rivet City page to include this information.

______________________________________ Anybody have any idea what the deal is about that vacant room filled with brown smoke on the midship deck? It's a remarkable, unique feature in the otherwise homogeneous space of the aircraft carrier and it kind of disappoints me that there isn't any acknowledgement of it...

I realize this is probably an old post and it's unlikely that you'll see this, but whatever. The empty room with the brown smoke is converted into a bedroom for Angela Staley and Diego after the completion of the unmarked quest A Nice Day For a Right Wedding and attending the wedding. Hotel room reverts to unowned[]

Either my game bugged or the information about the Weatherly hotel room belonging to the player permanently after paying for it is incorrect. I paid for the room and left some stuff in one of the footlockers. Later, I was forced to pick the lock to go back in and get my stuff. The bed menu was red and wouldn't let me sleep in it. 97.73.64.149 02:34, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

First of all, if a bug doesn't work that doesn't make your game bugged. Secondly you only keep the hotel room if you do NOT close the door Gamerempire9 17:12, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

Added this detail to page.--212.139.108.78 00:10, January 3, 2011 (UTC)Davii

Someone should put that the hotel room usually only works if you buy it from the robot. Cant think of his name.

No kill but killer[]

I am being treated, by rivet city guards and a couple of shop owners, as if i have killed someone. I have no idea why this is.

It started shortly after SAVING Mr Lopez from killing himself. I did push him/ convince him to kill himself a few times before hand but reloaded to before and told him not to jump. I did kill Sister but this was very long ago and is unlikely they only just noticed (it was a sand man kill)

JASPER42

If you kill anyone even if no-one goes hostile, the people at rivet city will say something like" We know what you did but harkness says we need to forgive and forget" if you steal anything they'll say "Your a lowlife but if you keep your nose clean we'll let you stay" no matter how long ago it was or if nobody saw.--Chargersphinx 02:30, October 25, 2011 (UTC)

Always cloudy[]

Doesn't anyone else notice that its ALWAYS cloudy in rivet city, and most urban areas in the world map

Patriot guy 01:28, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

That's the dust and the rust in the air, they dont have air filters to get rid of it.

behind rivet city[]

anyone gone there? the bottom corner of the map i mean theres a homeless persons skeleton with a shopping cart and tin cans everywhere

RE: I have gone behind rivet city, got there swimming around looking for boats to check. weird how theres buildings all along there, makes you think you can go there.

Yay for leaps of faith! Sometimes I fall too shallow and kill myself. That sucks. In real life you get turned into a pancake if you jump into the water from a height of at least possibly 100 feet.

RE: In actuality, from 12,000 feet, your speed will be apx. 125 MPH on impact. Survivable in water of depth ~12ft. given the water is broken properly

In WWII a soldier survived a fall of 18,000 ft. without a parachute by steering into trees and landing in snow. (http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/question729.htm)

100 feet is EASILY survivable, my University has 10m dive towers (32.8 ft), kids can jump off it. just don't belly flop.

texture bug[]

Occasional on visiting rivet city there appear to a grey wall covering the area that contains the doors to the hallway and market. Other areas are seen flashing between a grey wall and the proper texture. You can walk though the grey wall and the the view from the doors to outside seems normal. This bug vanishes after a short will on other maps.

Anyone experienced this?

RC citizens wandering the wasteland[]

I was at Fort Independence turning over some tech to Casdin and when I was done I decided to head up the side of the building [opposite direction of the whole fenced in area] to do some exploring. Once I cleared the building I found myself on a road and I noticed Brian Wilks walking up the road towards me. I found this odd as I had already completed Those! and turned Brian over to Vera, and had seen him around Rivet City plenty of times. When spoken to he made the same comments he did while at Rivet City regarding how Vera makes him clean up, and general stuff like that. I wondered what the hell he was doing, but I had stuff to do so I let him continue on his way.

Just ahead of me there was an Enclave outpost so I went ahead and took care of them. While scavenging their stuff with the intent to turn right back around and trade it to Casdin, I noticed a few people walking down the same road Brian Wilks had been walking down [same direction too]. I headed up and noticed it was Vera, Diego and Seagrave. Upon speaking to any of them they made the same comments they did while speaking to them in Rivet City. Seagrave even told me the shop was closed now so he couldn't do any trading [or something to that effect]. I decided to follow them. Eventually the road hit an intersection and Vera and Diego took a right turn and headed down the other road, while Seagrave continued on the same road.

I gave up on following them [was taking too damn long] and decided to fast travel to Rivet City. When I got there I went to the Marketplace [because that's where Seagrave should be] and noticed Seagrave was not there. Also missing was Shrapnel, Flak, Bannon, and Cindy. The market was open, people were walking around, and Gary's Galley was up and running but the other shops were abandoned. I searched further for Brian, Vera and Diego to no avail. After a while I decided to sleep for 24 hours, and upon waking up everybody seemed to have returned. In fact the first person I ran into was Brian when I got into the stairwell while heading to the Marketplace. When I got to the Marketplace everybody was back and things seemed to be normal again. Vera was also back, and though I never searched for Diego I assume he's back avoiding the poon as usual.

Anyone else ever have this happen? Why were they out wandering the streets in the first place?

Oh, PS3 version BTW.

Super Mutant outside?[]

Hey guys this happened a while ago and i am just now remebering it: I was meesing around with that sucidal old man (NAME please???) and i was testing out a bunch of different ways to knock him off the edge of the ship. well at one point I fell off and as I was falling I noticed a supermutant just chilling on the bridge to the city. I then died. I reloaded the autosave and looked down and there he was. just idily standing there, having a staring contest with the rivet city guard. I could go right up to him and look at him and he wouldnt do anything. anyone else have this happen?

his name is mister lopez, and was the super mutant fawkes? because he is non hostile to everyone except enemies of course, it coulda been uncle leo, i dont know how it could be a normal supermutant because they are creatures and creatures are supposed to be hostile to everything--Chargersphinx 02:37, October 25, 2011 (UTC)

Jumbie replies: I saw this too. 3 times, I found the mutant in the ship. He seems to walk from the bridge tower to the mutant camp on shore. I followed him the last time. If you face, him (like you want to talk) he yells, 'What're you looking at?" Once the guards killed him in the stairwell. He shows up in Red on the VATS, so he's marked hostile, but I saw the bridge occupants and the guards and residents ignore him. Last time this happened, I was escorting Dr Li from the bridge to the Jefferson Memorial and she was cowering in fear around the mutant.

RIVER CITY CAR PARK CITY LINER[]

XBOX360: The CITY LINER can be broken free from its computer moorings if equipped with FAT MAN and pushed round the car park.If you happen to push it over the guard standing by the steps it will crush and kill him for nil Karma effect. If pushing the liner into shallow water in front of Rivet City the Liner will slowly sink to the bottom.--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 07:40, August 1, 2012 (UTC)

Rivet city bridge retracted again[]

xbox360. The only other time that the Rivet city bridge can be found to be retracted is during the visit to Vault 112 and Tranquility Lane. If you fast travel back ahead of James to the Jefferson memorial and run back to the R.C prow the bridge is retracted. The trigger poin t for the extension is 4 swimminpg towards the bridge from the door of the broken Bow .The bridge cannot be seen from the door even with the sniper cope, it's too thin and too far away. But by swimming four strokes toward the b ridge it can be seen extending from the retracted position.--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 06:33, August 19, 2012 (UTC)

Reactor Core[]

I wonder how the Brotherhood obtained the ships reactor core, as they would of had to dismantle part of the ship to get it out. Nick3258 (talk) 12:30, December 12, 2015 (UTC)

Is Rivet City mentioned by name when they talk about the Power Core? There are no other Carriers in the DC area as far as we know, but if it isn't mentioned by name it shouldn't be listed here --Tuskin38 (talk) 18:41, March 21, 2016 (UTC)

No, all the terminal entry states is that it's from the wreck of an old aircraft carrier. Great Mara (talk) 18:42, March 21, 2016 (UTC)
