Crater as holy land[]

This article uses a reference from Creed's dialogue to say that the Crater is considered holy land by the Cult of the Mothman. However, I'm not sure if that's the intention. The cult seems to believe that Appalachia as a whole is its holy land, per their combat dialogue. But Creed's dialogue is pretty vague as to whether he means "our turf" as in Crater specifically or the entire region of Appalachia (the Raiders also believe that Appalachia is "their land"). that's fair. i could totally be rounding up. between the nearby ritual site (the small island in the river to the south being torn apart by roots), the precursor, and the deeply mysterious nature of the space station, i know i'm comfortable interpreting it that way, but I can't provide any further solid evidence of the cult's interest in Crater. Thanks for the input, I just wanted to make sure the text was supported. Great work on the article. LaymansReign (talk) 18:18, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
incidentally i want to say the red tarps might be a moth cult thing. the blood eagles hang out near them a lot, but it's plausible they settled a bunch of abandoned cultist areas. kept the infrastructure, took down the freaky shit. i'd have to do a full survey of the map pre- and post- wastelanders to decide how i *really* feel about that Anachorite (talk)
yknow i did think i was projecting a bit but now the mounted creature skeleton has me thinking Crater was briefly a moth cult settlement. it's that huge water creature they like to display the bones of. they make mothman effigy faces out of their weird flat skulls. that thing. --Anachorite (talk) 13:34, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Great Work Everyone![]

Just wanna say a great job to everyone who helped contribute to creating and expanding this page, especially Anachorite for first creating it and introducing the bulk of the information. This is great stuff and it's nice that we finally have a page for one of the biggest pieces of the franchise's identity. Loved to see everyone building off of each other's edits and building it up. Might try to gather some pictures of the art deco statues/architecture in Fo3, as the designs are especially prevalent there. Savior DJ (talk) 04:19, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Agreed, this is a really interesting topic. LaymansReign (talk) 18:18, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
aww and here i thought i was going to get a ton of pushback on this. i really appreciate all the support! Anachorite (talk)

Addressing the speculation. Again.[]

You received a rebuttal on your talk page where it belongs, not back and forth in edit summaries. And you already started an edit war by replacing your edit without prior discussion. There is no objective proof suggesting the statues were present prior to the mountains forming, as there are multiple avenues to build statues on site and multiple ways geoligical events and others causing the surrounding earth to shift can cause new exposed structures or fissures. Per this wiki's policy, the edit should not remain. All content needs to be accurate. You cannot accurately state the statues have always been there. Adding speculation should be avoided. Assuming the statues have always been present falls under speculation. All content needs to be verifiable. Editors can't verify the statues have always been there and weren't moved or built on site. All content needs to be objective. You cannot objectively prove the statues were there before the mountains.

The edit in question should be removed from the page. Great Mara (talk) 22:52, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

the contribution needed to be edited significantly, but the age of the mountain range is emphatically noted throughout The Mothman Prophecies and resonates well with the information on the page. on the other hand, the ambiguity is real and important. i think it would be appropriate to mention this context in BTS without stating a conjectural conclusion. i hope that passionate new editor wasn't entirely frightened off by this incident.--Anachorite (talk) 13:18, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
