T-60 powered combat infantry armor is an advanced operational power armor type developed on contract from the U.S. government. Introduced in Fallout 4, it has also appeared in Fallout Shelter, released simultaneously, Fallout 76, and features prominently in the Fallout television series.
Background[]
The T-60 series of powered combat infantry armor is an evolution of the T-45 power armor design.[Non-game 1] Following quiet testing between the government and West Tek, as part of its long-standing defense contract,[Non-game 2] the T-60 entered service after the conclusion of the Battle of Anchorage, mere months before the nuclear apocalypse, the T-60 was rapidly deployed and extensively used by the U.S. Army in all theaters. Deployments of military units in T-60 power armor included the domestic front, enforcing order in the nation.[1]
By the time of the Great War it was considered to be the most advanced model of power armor to see extensive use.[2]
Design[]
As with other power armor models, the T-60 is designed for a single operator. Compared to the T-45, the T-60 is much more heavily armored. The result is an extremely protective armor system. As usual for T-series power armor, the helmet completes the ensemble and includes an air filtration system, a bullet-resistant vision slit, an electric lamp, and external ports that allow the operator to listen to his surroundings and double as attachments points for extensions. The standard upgrade is a drop-down ocular,[3] which can retract to allow for the modular faceplate to open, allowing the operator to see everything directly.[4]
A T-60 power armor unit was usually deployed with support from light infantry units, equipped with energy weapons.[5] After the Great War, T-60 power armor became a rare sight until the reformed Brotherhood of Steel under Elder Arthur Maxson recovered a substantial number of these suits and adopted the T-60 as the service uniform of its soldiers, compatible with Vertibirds and allowing troops to deploy by simply jumping out the door.[6] Competitive falling by soldiers off duty established the practical height for airborne deployments at up to Prydwen's altitude when in hover mode,[7] or about 50 meters (165 ft).[8]
Despite many advantages over its previous models such as the T-51, each armor unit carried over the same fatal flaw from the original T-45 model where a weld below its chestplate made it vulnerable to moderate-to-high caliber armoring piercing rounds.
Variants[]
T-60 basic model[]
The standard T-60 model typically features dark steel or light blue paint on the majority of the body, with white markings on sections along the inside of the forearms. It was the most advanced model of extensively used power armor before the Great War.
Tesla T-60 armor[]
An upgraded variant of the T-60 outfitted with multiple heavy-duty electrodes connected via thick cabling. This variant is utilized by Ivey, the leader of the technological, robot-focused Rust Devils. The upgrades allow the user's damage output with energy weapons to increase substantially.

The T-60 power armor seen in the Fallout TV series comes with previously unseen modifications. The most prominent is a rising faceplate that allows face-to-face communication without having to take the helmet off, jets allowing flight within the forearms of the armor, as well as an integrated water storage unit on the back. The helmets also include an integrated radio system allowing for communication with the Brotherhood. The holes in the pauldrons are used for cable hooks for exiting Vertibirds from height. On this model, the armor's fusion core is also shown to be removable from the outside only using a specialized key, which leaves the armor completely immobile. The armor's occupant is thus unable to leave the suit if the fusion core is removed while they are inside; this is not the case with all power armor seen previously.
