Gavin McCullough was a member of the Free States living in the Mire region of Appalachia before 2102.
Background[]
Two individuals came upon a small treehouse up above the Mire while running away from raiders. These members, Lorne and his daughter Darlene, realized what an advantageous position it would be for building a residence. They did not have the expertise to turn the idea into reality, so another member of their group, Caroline, set off to Gavin's cabin to solicit help from him and his crew, as he was a master carpenter.[1]
Gavin agreed to help and under his direction, work proceeded rapidly. Within a month, they expanded the treehouse into a village. Gavin designed a way to use other nearby trees to build a series of treehouses connected to one another by walkways allowing for both privacy and a sense of community.[2]
The village was completed quickly but was plagued by repeated attacks by raiders. One night, gunshots rang out and Gavin yelled to alarm the other residents. Quickly, the group ran to the windows and returned fire, but Darlene was killed. Subsequently, Gavin and the rest of the Free States members abandoned the village they had created and retreated elsewhere into Appalachia.[3]
