So we have to grab every schematic, every holotape, every book, and every goddamned note that holds the building blocks of the Old World before it's too late.

Forbidden Knowledge is a repeatable side quest in Fallout 76.

Quick walkthrough[]

Repeatable quest: Forbidden Knowledge
Find a piece of technical data in a random container.
Insert the data into the secure document storage in the Camp Venture basement or hand it in to Scribe Valdez at Fort Atlas
Reward: 25-30 caps, 250-400 XP, random ammo/consumables, possible random Brotherhood clothes/paint/underarmor mod, increased caps and XP as well as a 15% chance for a legendary item when handing in more than one technical data at once

Detailed walkthrough[]

For this repeatable quest to be available, the player character must have first completed Defiance Has Fallen. Technical data may still be found in the world prior to completing this quest, but it will not be able to be turned in for rewards.

Technical data is found in random containers all over Appalachia. When a piece of technical data is found, the player character will receive this quest to give it to Scribe Valdez inside Fort Atlas (only if Mother of Invention has been completed) or to store it in a secure location at Camp Venture. This secure location is in the basement of one of the buildings in Camp Venture, marked by a logo labeled "V.E.S.T.", outside the main walls. It is behind a locked (Picklock 0) door, though the key can be found nearby to unlock it. Just look for a small, red, rectangular wall safe on the left hand wall, just before the door to the storage armory.

Turning in more than one technical data at once increases rewarded caps and experience, as well as adding a chance for a 3-star legendary item.

? Find a place to secure the Technical DataI've found a technical schematic for a potentially dangerous technology. The Brotherhood of Steel attempted to keep tech like this out of the hands of those that could abuse it. I should see if there's someplace I can store this safely at Camp Venture.
?Quest finishedPut the Technical Data in a Brotherhood CacheThe Brotherhood of Steel secured advanced technology. I can continue their work.

Notes[]

  • The quest was temporarily disabled on October 9, 2020 due to some players having login issues.[1] The quest was subsequently re-enabled with Fallout 76 patch 1.5.1.26 on January 26, 2021.
  • Technical data stacks, and depositing or handing it in will finish the quest and remove the whole stack from the Vault Dweller's inventory. Starting the quest again requires finding another technical data in a container.
  • Conversely, removing all technical data from the player character's inventory will fail the quest.
  • The numerous desks found in the Whitespring bunker's military section can be regularly visited for technical data. Other places with a high quantity of containers that can hold technical data include: AMS corporate headquarters, Sugar Grove, Watoga High School, Site Alpha, Site Bravo and Site Charlie.
  • Players can deposit technical data in their stash, and turn in each piece one by one to increase the chance of getting more rare items from the loot pool.
