You have impressively nimble fingers. As there is a large number of doors that are locked, it is worth considering this perk if you must know what's behind every closet door, storage door, or secret door.Fallout 4 Vault Dweller's Survival Guide description

Locksmith is a Perception perk in Fallout 4. It replaces the Lockpick skill from Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

Effects[]

Taking ranks of this perk grants the ability to pick locks of upward-advancing difficulty. Higher ranks render any and all bobby pins in your inventory unbreakable.

Ranks[]

Rank Requirements Description Form ID
1 PER 4 Your nimble fingers allow you to pick advanced locks. 000523FF
2 PER 4, LVL 7 You can pick Expert locks. 00052400
3 PER 4, LVL 18 You can pick Master locks. 00052401
4 PER 4, LVL 41 Your bobby pins never break during lockpicking. 001D246A

Notes[]

  • While ranks 1-3 are required to access the different levels of locks, save for Novice which can be picked without or without this perk, rank 4 has a significantly higher Level requirement (nearly three times that for rank 3) for the price of the incredible trait of making bobby pins unbreakable.
  • Taking rank 4 grants a useful side effect of having unbreakable bobby pins. Because the bobby pin won't break, the player's pick rotation will not be reset like if it broke. This makes it easier for the player to pick harder locks, as they no longer have the issue of losing their place when a pick breaks while just off the sweet spot.
  • Cait possesses an inherent trait akin to this perk, granting her the ability to pick any lock, though chances of success decrease with difficulty, e.g. a small chance of unlocking Master locks. She requires at least one bobby pin in her inventory to do so and can be commanded to repeat lockpicking if she gives up due to consecutive failures; however, she is still at risk of breaking bobby pins from failure and must be resupplied if she runs out. An Automatron can have this same trait by installing the Lockpick module, though it excludes them from having the Hacking module granting the Hacker perk and vice versa, in a robot workbench with the Automatron DLC installed.
