Yeon Yirang (연 이랑, Yeon Irang) is the Head of the Yeon Family.

Appearance and Personality[]

Yirang is known to be the most beautiful among the Great Warriors.^[1]

In the distant Past, Yirang was close to her former companions and enjoyed spending time with them. As shown in her interactions with Arie Hon, Khun Eduan, Po Bidau Gustang, Lo Po Bia Traumerei and Amizu. Yirang in particular had a deep friendship with Amizu and was seemingly one of the companions she was closest to, as shown where the two enjoyed chatting with each to pass the time, with Amizu in particular sharing some of the details of her love life with Traumerei to Yirang. As shown when Amizu declared her intentions to betray Yirang and the rest of the Family Heads to side with V and Arlene, Yirang was not at all bothered or angry over her friends choice and instead chose to respect her decision and have a final talk with her before bidding her farewell.

However, despite not initially holding anything to Amizu for her choice to betray her, Yirang did express sadness and frustration at her choice when Amizu had reached her meeting point with Luslec. As shown, Yirang was in truth deeply upset of how Amizu was leaving and would now become her enemy. She would then admit to her fears about how different she had become from Amizu and the rest of their other companions while trying to intimidate her with her overwhelming powers. As shown, Yirang expressed her fear of how she feels like she has now become completely alienated from her friends and of how this power has twisted her and will likely continue to change her into something she won’t recognize. When Amizu comforted her however, Yirang had managed to overcome these fears and insecurities, standing tall and confident as the future head of the Yeon Family as she wished her friend goodbye.

After Enkidu had killed Amizu, Yirang was deeply upset at her friend’s death and did everything in her power to try and save her, only to fail as even the Family Heads cannot undo death. As implied by Gustang, Yirang was vengeaful for Amizu’s death and had fully believed Enkidu’s confession of V orchestrating her assassination and like the other Family Heads, comoletely turned against V and his group.

Like the other Family Heads, the weight of the memories of this incident became too much for Yirang and she decided to “erase” her memories of it using her own unique method. ^[2]

During Amizu’s escape from Traumerei’s Palace, Yirang was stated to have spread a special type of “perfume” across the area of the Palace that masked Amizu’s presence and shinsu, preventing the other Family Heads present in the ship, such as Khun Eduan, from detecting and finding her. As noted by Amizu, Yirang’s perfume takes the form of actual air born perfume and opening a gigantic window within the Palace will dispel it and remove its effects. ^[3]

Yeon Family Flames[]

As the progenitor of the Yeon Family, Yirang is the source of their unique Flames. The fire Yirang possess is a special flame gifted by an Ancient Master and is a special type of flame that cannot be put off or be extinguished with normal Water.^[4] According to ancient history, Yirang had received two types of special flames. This two special flames are known as the Primeval Flames.^[5]

1.) A Flame that is capable of burning anything.
2.) A Flame that is capable of saving anything.

In the past, when trying to dissuade her old friend Amizu from defecting from Zahard and the other Family Head’s side, Yirang had demonstrated some of her flames to intimidate her old friend. ^[6]

Memory Erasure[]

As stated by Gustang, all of the Famil Heads had a method to allow them to “forget” memories that they felt overburdened by. After Amizu’s death, where Enkidu had supposedly killed her under “V’s” orders, Yirang had chosen to rid herself of the memories of these incidents by either storing away or completely erasing her memories of it. ^[7]

Originally known as Yeon Hana in SIU's blogpost, her name was established as Yeon Yirang when she became canon in the series.

According to the old lore, despite sometimes being suspected of being a misandrist, Hana actually has a gentle personality (which is very rare among the 10 Family Heads) and treats both men and women kindly.^[1] Though she has a gentle personality, Yeon Hana is "the scariest woman when angry" according to the 10 Family Heads. It is said that when angered once, she surpassed Ha Yurin who was famous for having a terrible personality, but this is impossible to confirm at the present time in which the 10 Family Heads are not active in public.^[1]

Although she is the Family Head, there is not a single child in the Yeon Family who has received her blood. All children of the Yeon Family are the sons and daughters of "Yeon Ilarde", who is an old fellow family member (권속, gwonsok; 眷屬) of Hana.^[1] Yeon Hana herself is a virgin who has never embraced a man. According to a rumour, she could not forget a man whom she broke up with a long time ago, so she made a contract with a Guardian to become a "female that cannot feel love towards the opposite sex".^[1]

Her fellow family member Ilarde gives birth to and raises her children in her stead, so the children of the Yeon Family all call Ilarde "godmother".^[1]
