Emerald Drop(s)[]

Is anyone able to verify TySkyo's assertion that Vindicators can drop up to two emeralds? I've tested this a few hundred times, and they have never dropped more than one without looting. DelboyDylan (talk) 21:03, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

The loot table says 0–1 before Looting, and I don't see any code for dropping emeralds outside of the loot table in a quick glance. Anomie x (talk) 10:29, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Image of Vindicator[]

A vindicator needs a version image with an ax. Also, a evoker needs an image when raising his arm to summon mobs.--{{User:Beans1512/Sign}} 13:08, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Peace...? =[]

An Vindicator spawned as non-hostile in my world set to peaceful. Bug, or intentional? Chaosstripe (talk) 07:31, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Vindicators and Evokers that are part of woodland mansions will still spawn in Peaceful difficulty, though they will not attack you. If you manually spawn one with a spawn egg or /summon, it will disappear as normal. Lord Bowser (talk) 02:19, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
Note: Vindicators are passive in Peaceful[Bedrock Edition only] 136.158.30.143 10:17, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Breaking down (Wooden) Doors, (Edit: ) and /or Opening them[]

So this was - unspecified Wooden - in the Wiki already. With Snapshot (for 1.14 Update) 19w13a, it said "Illagers can Break down [EDIT: Open] Doors" (sic) - which assumably reinforces Vindicators doing so (Vindicated! eh?).

Or maybe - it's - more than that. Pillagers..? what else?! Evokers?? Yilante 3 /27 /19 12:26 p.m. 76.209.248.192 08:08, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

It seems like it's Open, And, Break down (Wooden) Doors, for Vindicators ("ax[e]-of all trades"). And Pillagers-too of Illagers in only 1 Snapshot. Yilante 4 1 /5 1 /19 11:10 p.m. 76.209.248.192 06:10, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
And now "flap them in our faces," during Raids (with 1.14 Update). Could only get in an average of 1 hit before they'd re-Close it (possibly because they couldn't get in past a Fence Gate, just-ahead of it Closed, as they Opened and-entered it fine, once I'd Opened the Fence Gate), I'd have to re-Open it every time. Range of sight[]

Perhaps some information on their range of sight or from how far away they can detect players (or other mobs)? I've personally noticed that they can see me from a lot further than the pillagers they spawn with in their patrols seem to be able to. The pillagers are just kind of running around aimlessly but the vindicator hasn't moved aside from his gaze as I go back and forth, so he definitely can see me and is not just by coincidence facing my direction.

The zombie page has similar information, stating that they see up to 40 blocks and also states that "other mobs" can detect from up to 16 blocks. Clearly these guys can see further than that.

Or perhaps I'm experiencing a weird bug? Anyone else with similar experiences, or better yet, information from the code itself? Polartwins (talk) 05:52, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Do you know how to use rendering software, i know a couple people who are experts at it. Alot of the renders on the wiki are made by Oakar567. James Haydon (talk) 18:56, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
Okay i see you just made a grammar error, ok sorry. James Haydon (talk) 03:42, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

What damage does a vindicator deal?[]

It would be good if this article could explain the amount of damage they deal. It seems to be more than would be dealt from just an iron axe.

I've been playing an island survival game in Hard difficulty ("Ocean Monuments Ahead" seed from the Bedrock Edition seed picker), and patrols with 1 or 2 vindicators frequently spawn on my island. The island is well lit, so no hostile mobs ever spawn on it, but lighting apparently doesn't prevent patrols from spawning when I leave the island to work on slowly taking over the nearby ocean monument.

Even though I'm at full health and reasonably well-armored with enchanted iron and gold pieces, and I have a wolf to assist me, I've already been killed twice by vindicators. It seems that they deal quite a lot of damage. They move fast, hit fast, and hit hard. I cannot count their hits in the thick of a melee, but it seems if a vindicator gets two or three hits on me, I die.

Four hits with an iron axe would kill an un-armored player at full health, but I have armor on, and it doesn't feel like I've been hit as many as four times before I die. Amatulic (talk) 15:24, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Ah, I found it. There's a paragraph about damage, but no hearts icon to draw my eye to it. I fixed that and made it a subsection. Amatulic (talk) 14:55, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Spawn rate of vindicators becoming an illager captain[]

I tested spawning 1000 vindicators to see the chance of becoming an illager captain, killed them all and gave me 61 illager banners

I don't know whether this chance is about 6% or is affected by regional difficulty because I tested this on Normal difficulty PinksheepyIsLeaving (talk) 13:34, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

My own in-game experience is significantly more than that, about 10X, or 60% at Hard difficulty in Bedrock Edition. In my survival game I have collected four banners to decorate a wall of my base, and I've had about 7 or 8 encounters with patrols. One banner I missed; the illager captain was bobbing offshore but after I killed it with an arrow, I couldn't find the banner.
One problem in your test may be that you are just spawning vindicators, and not spawning actual patrols. The appearance rate of illager captains in patrols is much higher than 6%. Amatulic (talk) 16:06, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

I think they are talking about Java Edition, because in Bedrock you would only get vindicator captains if you run the patrol spawn event, or summon them as captains explicitly with the captain entity event argument in the summon command. In Bedrock Hard difficulty it's 1/5 or 20% of patrol members get changed to vindicators. GoldenHelmet403 (talk) 06:53, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

It shouldn't really matter if it's Bedrock or Java; in either case one needs a realistic test. Vindicator captains appear "renewably" in patrols and raids, and possibly once in a mansion. They don't appear in outposts or anywhere else. So if you want to figure out the proportion of vindicators that are captains, you need to spawn patrols or raids, not just spawn vindicators. The 6% result described above isn't representative of what a player could actually expect in the game. Amatulic (talk) 23:47, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Vindicator damage[]

Are the values of their damage in Bedrock Edition because I tested in Java Edition that on hard mode it reduced me to half a heart without armor on 99.252.150.246 12:41, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Seems correct to me. It's both Bedrock and Java, apparently. You have 20♥ × 10 at full health. A vindicator hits you for 19♥ × 9.5, leaving you with 1♥ (half a heart). Amatulic (talk) 14:57, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Johnny vindicators don't attack zoglins?[]

I specifically remember spawning Zoglins and Johnny vindicators, and they attacked each other, but the wiki says that they don't.--73.20.66.176 01:34, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
