Can someone rename this to "Melon (Seed)", Melon to "Melon (Block)", and Melon Slice to "Melon (Slice)"? Afterwards, create a page named "Melon (Disambiguation)" which links to these 3 new pages? Cool12309(T|C) 03:51, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Use a tag {{move|Melon (Seeds)|More appropriate name that fits the format of the wiki}} --HexZyle 08:06, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

The discussion at Minecraft Wiki talk:Community portal#Item naming proposal should be resolved before this page is renamed. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:21, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Should have a block template, not food template[]

I am going to change it right now. If you want to change it back, just tell me.

"Destroying a fully grown melon will yield two melon seeds"[]

This is very unclear. Is this referring to the melon block, the seed, the stalk? Please clarify if anyone can - I haven't seen any dropped seeds from a stalk, though I don't know that it was fully grown (it had produced melon blocks).

"Seeds pop out or die if the lighting is deficient"[]

Can anyone confirm this? - Charlie Brown 04:46, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Yes, they do. Not just melon seeds, but pumpkin seeds and wheat seeds. I was building a farming complex and some seeds just wouldn't stay in. I added more torches and they all stayed. 167.206.233.254 17:03, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

"Any adjacent Farmland block"[]

Should this be clarified as to whether Melons can grow diagonally? Just to the four cardinal sides? Perhaps a farming illustration could be useful.

they cannot grow diagonally Cultist O 01:38, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Melons produced on dirt/grass[]

Pretty sure that melons dont spawn on the dirt/grass, but must spawn on farmland. or maybe the spawn rate is drastically reduced? My reasoning: On my vanilla server, I got melons spawning nearly every 4-8 minutes. My friend on the server had the melon plants with dirt beside it, and they wouldnt spawn in an hour, with light and water. All my melon plants, and my friends, were completely grown, and just had to spawn melons.

Can someone verify whether the melons do spawn on dirt/grass?? _harishimomo (dont know how to sign hahaha)

I've tested it, and they can spawn of dirt or grass as of one of the weekly updates, (not sure which one, but someone said the second.) You need to download the weeklies specifically (minecraft won't prompt you) as they are really a testing thing, (that's why it lists both on the page). Can a stem grow several melons at once?[]

I've been wondering, can 1 melon stem grow melons to all 4 sides at the same time? Or is it limited to growing 1, and then stopping? It's really been bothering me, since i want to make a melon farm but don't know what the optimal design would be. Davidies 16:45, 29 September 2012 (UTC)Davidies

Click Melon (block)#Farming. Next time, post questions on the FORUMS. The wiki is not a place to ask questions or discuss anything other than editing pages. --Kanegasi C 16:50, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Melon Seeds don't spawn in chests since 1.5[]

I have run some experiments documented on the forums and it appears that melon seeds are not spawning in abandoned mineshaft and dungeon chests since 1.5.1. I did find them by scanning a fresh world generated by 1.4.7. Obviously you can find melon seeds in a chest that was generated by the 1.4.7 terrain generator, even if you're running the 1.6.2 version of the minecraft software today.

If this is confirmed (and people are posting less-than-rigorously-documented counterexamples), then we'll have to update our explanation of sources, which rumor says will include melons growing in the jungle with 1.7.

Merge with page on pumpkin seeds?[]

I propose that we merge together this page with the page on pumpkin seeds, based on their similarities and differences:

Similarities:

  • The stems look the same
  • The growth mechanics are the same, even with the same direction preference
  • Same amount and chance for generating in loot chests
  • Exactly the same history

Differences:

  • The seeds items look different
  • They produce different blocks

Since the pumpkin seed and melon seed articles are almost exactly the same, I think we should merge them together! What do you think? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Gregatron6000 (talkcontribs) at 8:03, 03 May 2017 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I disagree with a merge, not similar enough. They grow into two very different plants, making them semantically very different. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 11:27, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
Oppose While they are similar, you must think about before you understand why. If we merge the pages, some people may wonder why we did not include seeds and beetroot seeds. The BlobsPaper 00:00, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Unnecessary "Video" section[]

There is a section called "Video" in this article. However, it's empty. Should it be removed? 193.210.224.39 18:09, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

It is not empty for me. --Pepijn (talk) 18:22, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Resolved Yes, now i can see that video. 85.76.67.150 06:30, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
