This page covers the significant amount of cut content for Vault 63 in Fallout 76.

Overview[]

From the game's release in 2018 to 2024, Vault 63 was completely inaccessible. The Vault drew the attention of Fallout 76 players over the years, due to mystery surrounding its purpose. It was originally going to be a location for the Vault raids feature, along with other Vaults in Appalachia. It was also part of the quest Lockdown, which was cut from the original release of the game. After the Vault raid function was shuttered, Mark Tucker was asked in a 2021 Ask Me anything about any future plans to expand on Vault 63; he said it was planned to become a Daily Ops location eventually,[1] though this never materialized.

Compared to Vault 96 and its cut content, Vault 63's story was not as fleshed out until the Skyline Valley update, whereas Vault 96's story went through multiple iterations. However, unlike Vault 96, much of its layout was developed and could be accessed using glitches.

Vault raids[]

Vaults 63, 94 and 96 were originally intended to be associated with Vault raids, team quests where there would be an emergency in the Vault that required fixing. Player characters would have been notified through an emergency radio beacon. These were instanced dungeons, where groups of up to four could enter and attempt to complete the raid for a chance at unique rewards.

There were three missions planned for Vault 63:

Ultimately, Vault 94 was the only Vault raid released for the game, and the raids were discontinued with the Wastelanders update (April 2020). With the release of the One Wasteland For All update (September 2020), Vault 94 was repurposed for the new Daily Ops feature, and Vault 96 became part of Daily Ops seven months later (April 2021). In 2021, Vault 63 was planned to be a Daily Op location at some point as well, but this ultimately did not occur.[1] Vault 63 was not developed until the Skyline Valley update (June 2024).

Background[]

A keycard slot next to the terminal accepted the Vault 63 access ID card. There was also the Vault 63 resident ID card and Vault 63 maintainence ID cardIn-game spelling, punctuation and/or grammar. Vault 63 also contained a maintenance terminal, a reactor control terminal, a security office terminal, a security mission terminal, an engineering certification terminal, a fireman certification terminal and a military certification terminal.

The engineering, fireman, and military certification terminals all contained an option to locate a fireman, engineer, or officer respectively. Vault 63's reactor control terminal had an option to cool down the reactor of the Vault, stated to take three minutes to complete. The security office terminal had no text or menu items, and the maintenance terminal gave the player character an option to activate the fire suppression system of Vault 63. To the left of the metal bridge, there was an emergency management terminal.

Layout[]

Despite the terminal entry displaying the status of the Vault as normal, players utilizing exploits explored the Vault's interior prior to Skyline Valley and discovered it was in a state of considerable disrepair. There were skeletons of the residents, piles of rubble were everywhere, and other signs of general destruction. Throughout the Vault, there were numerous miniature air purifiers.

The first room that was seen when entering the Vault proper was the entry hall. Demolished furniture, overturned shelves, the skeleton of a scientist, and other general debris were present. The second door on the left led to the processing area which contained decontamination arches and general Vault furniture. On the upper level of the atrium was a small store.

The atrium was in a state of disrepair. There were numerous burn marks and piles of rubble, along with overturned furniture everywhere and some impact craters. There were also a few small fires caused by the Ash Heap's ash bursting through the wall. A few small rooms containing generic Vault decorations and a blank terminal could be found here. The atrium had a unique ceiling, and many air purifiers were mounted on the upper walls.

A hall leading away from the atrium contained a demolished bathroom with a large hole in the wall. The hole contained an earthen tunnel leading to a partially collapsed mineshaft that was visually similar to others seen elsewhere throughout the Ash Heap. At the end of the mineshaft was a large pit full of flaming debris.

There were also numerous classrooms on the lower levels with scientific formulas on chalkboards, as well as containing unique wall decor. Along with these were numerous small labs and medical chambers, indicating some kind of scientific research occurring in the Vault.

There were halls made up of the red utility tunnels seen in Fallout 4's Vault-Tec Workshop add-on. These tunnels were filled with crates, shelving and rubble.

There were multiple housing quarters located throughout the interior and generally consisted of a bed, furniture and at least one container. Two of these had red tiling and a wallpaper similar to the two Whitespring wallpapers available for purchase in the Atomic Shop. One of these also contained a children's quarters with a unique Red Rocket wallpaper.

The reactor room consisted of a control room containing a single terminal whose only function was "Begin cooldown Process," which did nothing. A staircase led to the reactor, which was a large rectangular shaped room made of concrete consisting of a Vault Star super-reactor surrounded by catwalks with varying degrees of disrepair and rubble. The room also contained a steamer trunk.

The original interior cells for Vault 63, prior to Skyline Valley, have either been totally removed from the game record or are still in the files as cut content.[verification overdue]
