The Ultra-Luxe shootout was a firefight that took place on Wednesday, July 13, 2072, between a group of mobsters (in reality, deserting soldiers who had stolen funds from the federal government)[1] and the Las Vegas police force.[2]

Background[]

Events[]

The Charleston Herald reported the events of the shootout, which took place at the Ultra-Luxe Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.[2] Police stormed the casino floor, engaging in a firefight with the mobsters. The newspaper stated that hundreds of bullets were fired, and the conflict resulted in all five mobsters' deaths as well as injuries sustained by 17 bystanders.[2]

The newspaper stated that there were multiple conflicting reports from eyewitnesses as to what happened. In one account, a cashier reported the group of mobsters were on a winning steak when soldiers arrived, subsequently using a missile launcher to kill two of the individuals.[2] Others claimed the conflict began due to sniper fire killing one of the mobsters.[2] As the violence unfolded, witnesses say that they saw the mobsters try to surrender on two occasions.[2]

The Las Vegas chief of police claimed it was a major victory for the city, declaring that "it's time for us to send a clear message that no one in Las Vegas is above the law."[2]

Private investigations[]

The official version of events is highly suspect, as the real circumstances of the shootout were the subject of an intense coverup.[1] Residents of Berkeley Springs recognized the "mobsters" as being missing soldiers from the local area, with one of them, later dubbed "Shanghai Sally," being identified by C. Rutkowski as his partner Sergeant Kathryn Montgomery, who had been missing for three weeks.[3] Flavia Stabo's investigation into the event led her to believe two of the mobsters looked very similar to the missing soldiers, but due to injuries sustained, she could not fully confirm their identities.[1]

Appearances[]

The Ultra-Luxe shootout is mentioned only in Fallout 76, introduced in a pre-Wastelanders update.
