Thanks to whomever fixed my picture for this guy.~~ReconMarine

Is this guy Essential or not?

Why haven't you signed and dated this post? Four tildes, jeebus. The answer is, for the first part yes, later, no. Read the page. 188.29.165.110 14:32, January 21, 2015 (UTC)

British?[]

Calvert calls him a 'Limey', which is an old term for an englishman. Is this true, do you think? Fat Man Spoon 17:24, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Uh....have you even heard his accent?Thats got englishman all over it Butter 17:25, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Gor blimey! He's got a point! Nitpicker of the Wastes 17:26, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Put it in, Nitpicker. Fat Man Spoon 17:26, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
? Put what in? I'm not rubbing it with that chamois again. Nitpicker of the Wastes 17:28, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
The fact that he is English. And no, don't rub it with chamois again. Unless, you want to, that is... Fat Man Spoon 17:30, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't get paid enough for this... Nitpicker of the Wastes 17:32, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
I want to know what the real backstory is between Desmond and Calvert. Desmond was a former British agent but Calvert came from a powerful American political family. What would cause the feud between players in allied nations? Did Europe blame the US for their war with the Middle East? ~ The Unsigned One, 24 June 2009
I will kill this prick for making me get a lobotomy. I feel a strange sense of loss
It seems that Desmond is supposed to be English, however his accent is, to British ears, pure Yank. He makes Dick Van Dyke's legendarily bad "cockney" accent in Mary Poppins sound authentic. I mean, Americans are famously bad at accents and recognising them, but this bloke is on a whole new level of BAD. DJ/UK
I'm canadian and I don't hear it. Sound NA to me --DragonJTSLeave me a message 14:44, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Sounds like a brit who's been spending a lot of time n the states to me.... 97.94.229.133 06:44, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Im pretty ssure he is a brit.....lockheart is a VERy british name...or eh could be a reference to gilderoy lockheart from harry potter Butter 15:46, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
He is an Englishman that has developed a transatlantic accent. Either way, I needed an excuse to kill Calvert, 200 years on and I'm still loyal to my own.

Remember though, his voice could have been changed a lot by ghoulification. Tenpenny though... now THAT's a bad accent.--71.234.106.119 07:57, 2 July 2009 (UTC)anonymous

Pip Pip tally HO!!!--81.152.118.174 05:25, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Indeed, until reading on this wikia that he's from England, i always hoped there would be an option to stand up Tenpenny about using a fake accent he heard on a holotape. But back on the topic of Desmond, bare in mind that he HAS been in America for at least the last 200 years, which would have to change his voice in some way. (Another query probably too distant to belong on this talk page, any Irish people willing to say how wrong Moriarty's accent is? Because I've known some Irish dudes in my day and Moriarty sounds like his accent is a pretty good imitation).--216.220.115.175 18:16, October 12, 2009 (UTC)

Most Vulgar?[]

It seems to me that Desmond, with is love of the word "Fuck", is by and far the most vulgar character in the game. Beats out the Mayor of LittleLampLight... right?

He loves "Fuck" like i love dismembered corpses Butter 16:14, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Tallied them up, he says fuck a total of 26 times. Pararaptor 13:03, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

He is also the only NPC i've met so far that says "cock" --NukaLurk 05:10, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Jericho deserves a mention here as his combat/follower comments are fairly salty. If you use him as a follower for a few days, you might top the 26 "fucks" or whatever tally you guys have for Desmond. V.A.T.S. addict 22:14, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't think he swears as much as some other character's. I find McCready and Dukov both swear more casually and more often.Setimir92 00:22, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

Except Desmond sounds a lot more natural than those two. 11px-Naglowaa_se.gif Tagaziel (call!) 07:25, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

Quotes section?[]

This guy may deserve one lol.

Final Location?[]

Where does this guy go once he leaves the lighthouse after the last quest? I want his goddamn eyeglasses! Dtemps123 04:07, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

I think he returns to the Panic Room, or you can always let good ol' Callahan slip him a lead sandwich. Just doing my job. 04:11, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

He doesn't go to his panic room, I know that. I think he just vanishes. --DragonJTSLeave me a message 04:47, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh yeah. To "hunt his next rival", as a part of the great game. Panic Room becomes my private loot stash! Just doing my job. 04:50, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah hes not in the panic room, so shit i cant get those damn glasses.Dtemps123 03:36, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

He gets on a vertibird and flies away. Not lying.--71.234.106.119 07:58, 2 July 2009 (UTC)anonymous

Sure,whatever,you lie scumbag. Mr.Wolf 07:59, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Just kill him, he's an ungrateful idiot anyway/

Just reverse pickpocket him a power helmet. Leave, come back and pick pocket his glasses.Zerokoolpsx 16:34, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

Moustache[]

Youve got to admit, over 200 years, and he's managed to keep his 'tache. thats british if ever i saw it. and im british. but the accent is atrocious. CRUMPETS AWAY!

Jolly good old chap. Lord Spoonfield III 18:05, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Freki and Geri[]

Seriously, how did no one catch that those are the names of Odin's two wolves?

Because THESE dogs are named after a developer's dogs. Lord Spoonfield III 19:33, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

WHICH are named after Odin's wolves. Drded4 19:28, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Drded4, it's more likely they were named due to the developer link than the mythological link. Also, cite a source for the developer's dogs being named that way. I have so far found nothing. Radithor 20:11, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

That's what I was looking for. I could have swornd I heard it somewhere legitimate, but it seems to had escaped me. (Also, this is Dr.ded4 I was accidentaly on my brothers account). Backspace-Yao-Guai 18:46, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

I suppose I'll have to supply the link then? My information can be found here @ http://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Meet_the_Fallout_3_devs_-_Erik_Caponi. I remember looking up the two dogs to see if anything important came up about them around Point Lookout's release and saw that they were his two huskies. I also saw that he was a game developer and made the connection that Desmond's dogs were a direct reference to Erik Caponi's. I am not saying, however, that the dogs couldn't have been named after Odin's dogs. It just seems more likely than not that they are named for a developer's dogs, rather that a Norse God's.

Voice Actor[]

I noticed the page doesn't give a voice actor. To me his voice sounds just like Jeff Baker's Dunmer voice in Morrowind, but I could be hearing things. Jeff Baker does a couple other in-game voices, right? Is it him? TennysonXII 06:25, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes actually, they sound extremely similiar. HOLD! RELEASETIME! 10:41, September 22, 2009 (UTC)

To me he sounds like Clint eastwood in gran Torino

Desmond is a bad ass, if you want to check out my version of his back story head to Project Ice Man on fanfiction.net, you may have to wait a month before I get around to actually writing the chapter, but trust me it's going to be awesome enough that James Bond himself will be envious of Desmond's mad spy skills.

It's got to be the same guy. Just imagine him saying "we're watching you....scum."

LOST Reference[]

Has anyone considered noting that this character also contains a reference to the TV show LOST? After you help him to kill the waves of attackers one of his first lines is, "At least I didn't have to use the fail-safe."98.207.41.176 17:45, May 11, 2010 (UTC)

"Fail-safe" is a real term. In this case it refers to the entire house being rigged to blow up! He uses it the second time though. 188.29.165.110 14:26, January 21, 2015 (UTC)

By far the most B.A. character![]

I personally think Desmond is one of the best characters in the entire game. Not just because of his endless vulgarities, but also because of his holier-than-thou attitude. Anyone else agree? Btron4ever 02:25, May 26, 2010 (UTC)

Untitled[]

Okay when Desmond says that Nadine "ran off before I could...introduce myself" does he imply he was going to rape her. cause that makes me ROFL. That is all I can think of when he says that and it makes me Teehee Giggle. 74.67.253.212 05:33, July 2, 2010 (UTC) Sapphire Tomoe

He's referring to his status as a ghoul, not his intend to rape. He's a pre-war professional. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 05:57, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Removed reference to Desmond's British accent, because he doesn't have one.

Yes he does, actually. And Calvert even comments on him being a "washed-up old Limey" --Kris User Hola 22:46, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
well he has an English accent and it should be referred to as such Voruse 02:57, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

word never used in fallout 3[]

i think its fucking hilarious when he says "get in here, before those cocksuckers get you too!". because usually, NPC's will say "fuck", "shit", "goddamn(it)' ect. but i found this funny :)

kinda hard to have a accent[]

it would be kinda hard to retain an accent after ghoulifacation due to the whole messed up scratchy hoarse voice thing you know with there vocal cords being jumpled up. oh and how the heck can you call him british based off of what calvert says those are his words not desmonds.

English people will, oddly enough, still sound English even when they're sick. Accents come from stresses and inflections, not a physical condition. Desmond has an RP accent. Why would Calvert use an insult based on a nationality if Desmond didn't belong to it? 208.103.253.177 02:14, April 19, 2011 (UTC)
It's a little more than RP, which is the very bland accent newsreaders and politicans have. His is an "old boy" accent, went to the right Public Schools (which are private schools), that sort of thing. Not many people alive now still have that accent, the last of them seemed to have died off by the 1980s. And yes, the accent is in the brain, not the throat. Every other ghoul in the game has an American accent. Some Americans don't think they have accents, which is a very stupid thing to think. 188.29.165.110 14:29, January 21, 2015 (UTC)

Accent's an accent. It's the way we move our mouth when we speak, not like a birthed ability that we just happen to inherit. We learn it by mimickery. He definately not only has an English accent, be it one potentially stained by 200+ years of being in America, but he uses English terms, to. His mere ATTITUDE is very English.

Edmond Locard ?[]

Hello !

I've added a note about that "desmond Lockheart" was a reference to Edmond Locard. It was removed. Why ?

It is speculation. If you have a developer confirmation that he is based on Edmond then it belongs. As it is now, it didn't. Richie9999 (talk) 11:31, June 28, 2013 (UTC)

Antagonist?[]

What exactly sets Desmond up as being an antagonist? He's rude, sure, but the only real antagonists I see in Point Lookout are Tobar and Calvert, Calvert especially given that you have to kill him no matter what even if you attempt to side with him. Richie9999 (talk) 21:13, July 19, 2015 (UTC)

He's an antagonist if you decide to side with Calvert - yes, Calvert remains an antagonist, because he double-crosses you, but you can set yourself against Desmond. That makes him an antagonist. He is, to use classical terms, the Deuteragonist - second most important character, who can be antagonistic or not.108.63.99.254 14:35, December 4, 2015 (UTC)
