The ornithologist is a deceased wastelander found in the Skyline Valley region in Fallout 76, introduced in the Skyline Valley update.
Background[]
This man, an ornithologist, was writing a book about avian life in Shenandoah National Park. On the 21st of an unspecified month, he met a group of travelers eating a giant fried turkey leg, which he found bizarre. He learned of the mutant turkeys, thrashers, from the travelers, who warned him that they were feral. He still resolved to find and study them for his book. Over the following days, the ornithologist discovered a nest of pheasants east of Research Site Bavaria, and set up an elevated wooden platform nearby from which to observe them. He soon saw the thrashers themselves at the nests, confirming their feral nature. Two days later, he observed a thrasher eating a mole rat whole, which surprised him. In the ornithologist's last entry, on the 28th, he noted that the thrashers seemed to have scouted around his camp in the night, and he felt that he would need to proceed with caution, as the turkeys were "up to something."[1] His fears were accurate, as they ultimately killed him, leaving his corpse in the middle of their nest.
