Egypt was a pre-War country located in Africa.
Background[]
Rising along the banks of the Nile River, Egypt was one of the birthplaces of civilization alongside other founding cultures in Sumer and Assyria.[1] The country would grow into a mighty empire, one famous enough to still be referenced frequently hundreds of years after the Great War. It would attain a number of achievements, from the domestication of house cats,[2] to the construction of the pyramids.[3] The empire would come to be famous for a particular burial practice called mummification, which involved embalming a body and wrapping it in several layers of linen.[4][5]
In the Egyptian city of Alexandria, a great library was built, which came to be known as a center of intellectual learning. Over the centuries, the building collected thousands of scrolls of ancient writings and knowledge, though most were destroyed with the building.[6]
After dozens of rulers and thousands of years, the last queen of Egypt would be Cleopatra. She had a romantic relationship with Mark Antony, a leader of the Roman Republic, and both would die before the country was annexed by the Roman Empire.[7]
The Rosetta Stone was a tablet with a speech transcribed into its surface in three different languages, one of which was hieroglyphics, the written alphabet used by the ancient Egyptians. The stone was discovered, and would be instrumental in deciphering the language.[8]
In 1894, in order to help him uncover the lost city of Ubar in the Rub' al Khali, Lorenzo Cabot hired a team of diggers. Rather then relying on inexperienced locals like he had in the past, he decided it would be worth it to stop in Suez and hired an Egyptian team. He later realized that the benefit was twofold, as the Egyptians didn't listen to the superstitious guide Lorenzo had hired to lead them through the desert.[9]
The ancient Egyptian tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamen was famously discovered in the country.[8]
The Hubris Comics character the Mistress of Mystery had close ties with Egypt. The daughter of two American archaeologists, Claudia Martin was left orphaned after her parents disappeared investigating the Lost Pyramid of Amun-Re. She was forced to grow up on the streets of Cairo, before being adopted by a wealthy heiress. Upon her 18th birthday, she set out to discover the truth behind her parents' disappearance, becoming the Mistress of Mystery.[10] As the superheroine, she would acquire many items referencing ancient Egyptian gods, such as the legendary Blade of Bastet, a pistol named the Voice of Set, and her brooch, the Eye of Ra. Though eventually returning to the United States, Claudia would travel back to Egypt on multiple occasions, including an expedition to vanquish a cult known as the Cult of the Unseen Seer.[11] After she joined the superhero team The Unstoppables, they would battle against The Diabolicals.[12] One member of the team was Pyramind, who is adorned in the linen wrappings of a mummy, wears the burial pieces of a pharaoh, has a helmet in the shape of an Egyptian pyramid, and refers to the Egyptian sun god Ra.[5]

- A question in the Pioneer Scouts entomologist exam asks, "Which of these insects was especially sacred to the ancient Egyptians?", with the correct answer being the scarab beetle.[13] Another question, this one from the archaeologist exam, asks, "You're excavating an ancient Egyptian tomb, and come across a scroll with old writing on it! What material is the scroll most likely made of?", with the answer being papyrus.[8]
- The religious movement known as the Renewal is symbolized by the ankh, an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol.[14]
- Dean Domino describes Frederick Sinclair's infatuation with Vera Keyes as a "Cleopatra obsession."[15]
- The Great Ananias claims that he has a genuine Egyptian mummy, which he has been charging people to look at. In reality, it is actually Woody, a ghoul from Gecko who has a tendency to fall asleep in unusual places.[4] A crier in the Den hired by Ananias will refer to the mummy as "the Queen of the Nile."[16]
- The Nile River is again mentioned in book two of the epic poem Paradise Lost, which appears on a terminal in the Underworld.[17]
- The filming of the pre-War film Empire on the Nile appears on the Shoot for the Stars scoreboard.
The legendary sphynx breed cat in Fallout Shelter is named Bastet, after the ancient Egyptian cat goddess.

- The Anubis outfit is present in in Fallout 76 files, but is yet to be implemented. The style is consistent with the Unstoppables outfits' aesthetic.
