Brotherhood hopefuls are uninitiated recruits hoping to join the Brotherhood of Steel at Fort Atlas in Appalachia.
Background[]
Unlike Brotherhood initiates, Brotherhood hopefuls have not officially joined the Brotherhood, and are still hoping to be initiated. Although most commonly found around the exterior of Fort Atlas, they can also be found paired with initiates at points of interest, such as checkpoints on main roads and crashed Vertibirds.

- Multiple Brotherhood hopefuls spawn at Fort Atlas, but cannot be killed by the player character.
- Brotherhood hopefuls can appear in random encounters throughout Appalachia, battling a wasteland threat. Unlike those at Fort Atlas, they can be killed without repercussions.
- There are multiple locations around Appalachia where Brotherhood hopefuls and Brotherhood initiates can be encountered, and unlike those at Fort Atlas, they can be killed with no repercussions.
- One can be found southwest of the Wayward, at a checkpoint on the main road.
- One can be found east of Forward Station Alpha, at a crashed Vertibird along a dried-up stream.
- One can be found south of Fort Atlas, at a checkpoint on the highway.
- One can be found northeast of Fort Atlas, at a checkpoint on the highway.
- One can be found northwest of Drop Site V9, at a crashed Vertibird.

- There are over nine variants of characters named Brotherhood hopeful, based on one original template.
- If one chooses to launch a nuclear strike at Fort Atlas as part of the I Am Become Death quest, the hopefuls will go about their normal business after donning hazmat suits. When the bomb detonates, they will cry out that they have been hit. The hopefuls around the fort's exterior will not survive the blast.
- Despite their appearance never deviating from the 9 original variants, at higher levels they may dropped fully modified BoS Heavy Combat armor upon death, with a few pieces being potentially replaced with unmodified Marine armor.
