Idk about anyone else, but I'm kind of getting tired of playing as a human. Aside from a few area-specific groups such as intelligent deathclaws, we know of two sentient species common in the wasteland aside from humanity: ghouls and super mutants. Unfortunately, the only games that allow you to control mutant or ghoul characters (or play as a ghoul in the case of the latter) are Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, which are not entirely canon. I don't know about you, but I think that Bethesda should allow you to play as one of these races in a future Fallout game.
Here's how it could work. Playing as a ghoul or as a super mutant could have positive, negative, or other effects on various gameplay and character attributes: for example, ghoul player characters could have the benefit of being healed by radiation and gaining special abilities from it (such as being able to become a glowing one after attaining a certain level of radiation and being able to inflict radiation damage on certain attacks), however they would start off with less Strength and Hit points. Conversely, Super Mutant characters could be left unaffected by radiation (no positive or negative benefits) and benefit from increased Strength, Endurance, and Hit Points but be unable to use most human/ghoul apparel or Power Armor.
Ghouls and Super Mutants could have special race-specific perks such as perk for ghouls that renders feral ghouls non-hostile to the player (similar to the Ghoul Mask in Fallout 3) or a similar perk for mutants that renders centaurs and similar creatures non-hostile. If traits ever reappear in a future Fallout game, ghoul and mutant player characters could choose race-specific traits in addition to the normal ones. Idk, just my thoughts.
What do you think? Should future Fallout games include non-humans as playable characters?
