Compounds are a type of item from Education Edition used in chemistry, which are created from combinations of various elements.

Obtaining[]

Compounds cannot be obtained in the Creative inventory. They are only obtained from creating them in the compound creator. This is done by inserting a certain number of elements corresponding to the compound's chemical formula.

List of compounds[]

Icon Compound Name Compound Recipe Description Uses
Aluminium Oxide 23 Is only brown when dug up from the Earth and contaminated; actually white when pure. Can be electrolyzed to make aluminum metal. Also the main chemical in rubies and sapphires. Used to craft hardened glass.
Ammonia 3 Used to create super fertilizer.
Barium Sulfate 4
Benzene 66
Boron Trioxide 23 Used to craft hardened glass.
Calcium Bromide 2
Crude Oil 920 C9H20 is the chemical formula for nonane.
Glue (Cyanoacrylate) 552 C5H5NO2 is the chemical formula for methyl cyanoacrylate, one of the cyanoacrylate glues ("superglue"); its condensed formula is CH2=C(CN)COOCH3.
Hydrogen Peroxide 22 Used to craft glow stick.
Iron Sulfide
Latex 58 C5H8 is the chemical formula for isoprene, which polymers are the main components of natural rubber; its condensed formula is CH2=C(CH3)−CH=CH2. Used to craft balloons.
Lithium Hydride
Luminol 8732 Luminol is a chemical that glows blue when oxidized. It can detect blood. Used to craft glow stick.
Lye
Magnesium Nitrate 26 Condensed formula: Mg(NO3)2
Magnesium Oxide
Polyethylene 1020 Polyethlene (PE), (CH2)n, is the most commonly produced plastic. Used to craft glow stick.
Potassium Iodide Used for making iodized salt and other things.
Soap 18352 C18H35NaO2 is the chemical formula of sodium stearate, the most common soap.
Sodium Acetate 232 Used to make hand warmers because it heats up when it "freezes". Used to create Ice Bomb.
Sodium Fluoride Commonly used in toothpaste to prevent cavity, among other uses.
Sodium Hydride
Sodium Hypochlorite Main ingredient of real-life bleach. Used to create Bleach.
Sodium Oxide 2
Sulfate 4 Cannot actually exist on its own, as it should have a 2- charge.

Chlorides[]

Icon Compound Recipe Uses
Salt Used to create heat block.
Calcium Chloride 2 Used to craft orange sparkler.
Cerium Chloride 3 Used to craft blue torch and blue sparkler.
Mercuric Chloride 2 Used to craft red torch and red sparkler.
Potassium Chloride Used to craft purple torch and purple sparkler.
Tungsten Chloride 6 Used to craft green torch and green sparkler.

Natural compounds[]

Natural compounds are compounds which can be obtained naturally in Minecraft.

Icon Compound Chemical formula Natural source Method Notes
Charcoal 74 Log or Wood Smelting The chemical formula C7H4O is sometimes used to describe the approximate composition of charcoal.
Glow Ink Sac, Ink Sac 4 Glow Squid, Squid Killing Glow Squid, Squid FeSO4 is the chemical formula of iron(II) sulfate or ferrous sulfate, normally found complexed with water as a salt with the formula FeSO4·xH2O, and has been used in the manufacture of iron gall ink and other inks for centuries. In contrast, squid ink (and other cephalopod inks) is composed mainly of melanin and mucus, with an assortment of other compounds in a variety of concentrations dependent on the species.
Sugar 6126 Sugar Canes or Honey Bottles Harvesting and crafting C6H12O6 is the chemical formula of glucose and fructose, as well as a number of other simple sugars (common table sugar is instead sucrose, a complex sugar made of glucose and fructose with the chemical formula C12H22O11).
Water 2 Water Picking up in a bucket or glass bottle from a Cauldron or a water source block One of the easiest to obtain.

Garbage[]

Garbage is considered a "compound", but the only way to produce it is to activate the Lab Table when its inputs are an invalid recipe. It has no uses.

Usage[]

Certain compounds are used as ingredients in crafting or lab table experiments. Natural compounds have uses outside of chemistry, detailed in their respective articles.

Unused compound textures[]

In the chemistry resource pack folder, there are numerous compound textures which are not used in the game. Note: a compound item with a data value of 38 will have the Blue Flask texture and will be called item.compound..name. If you use an NBT Editor to get a compound item with no assigned data value (by deleting the data tag) and then transfer that item to another world / realm using structure blocks (by exporting to a .mcstructure file, then importing it on another world or realm) then it will be renamed to Ivory Tusk.
