Working as a freelancer vs. agency owner This was something that I was struggling with when deciding which direction I should go for when I hit my first $100K a year revenue as a freelancer. And then I also believe that some of you in my network have thought about scaling up to a (boutique) agency model as a freelancer too. Looking back, if I can just simplify the question to myself, that could be: ➡️ Are you ready to fully commit to your agency 100%? You can even give up on your salary to maintain or build your dedicated team members. Although building a freelancing business is really no different from building an agency from the perspective of a boutique marketing agency owner, If you have full dedication to your vision for your business, I believe there's nothing we can achieve in the future. But please remember, there will be no linear journey; rather, you should be ready to ride your own roller coaster. --- What's your vision for your business? Do you prefer being a freelancer to an agency owner?

Q: I heard some rumors... Is it true that the location matters on TikTok? I got this same question several times and wanted to test it to see how it goes. First things first, to answer the question, "Yes, the location matters" So simply put, If you are based in the Netherlands, your content will be viewed 90% of the time or even more by the Netherlands users. But then, what if you want to reach a "global audience", outside of the area you are in? Q: Can I use a VPN for this? Well, there can be a way to do that, but it was not possible for my team and me to use a VPN to change the location on TikTok, and some other networks told me the same thing. So, I'm not sure if VPN works on TikTok. And plus schedulers like Metricool can't change the location by changing the system time zone. Q: So the best practice? ➡️If you have a team member who lives outside of your area or areas that you want to target, make the person schedule your content directly on the TikTok app. This way you can sophistically handle your global targeting as well. --- Got any other helpful ways to target your global audience? Collaborating with an agency always has pros and cons, and I often see issues like incorrect localization in Korean/Japanese marketing. I've even witnessed a global company spend $39K wasted on ads with the wrong keywords and targeting. I dug deeper into the Dos and Don'ts so that you can avoid similar situations during your global expansion. 👉🏻 Winning Global Expansion Dos: 1. Think about the most effective marketing methods for your industry in general. 2. Prioritize those services and seek out an agency specializing in those services, or start with a market entry consultation to strategize first. 3. Understand that the agency cannot perform every service it offers. 4. Check who is going to be in charge of the collaboration. 5. Avoid an agency that offers over 5 languages in their services unless there's a senior manager who can check all the language strategies correctly. 6. Regularly check if one of your marketing performances during collaboration is significantly poor. Generally, when you work with a multilingual agency that offers over 5 or even 20 languages, they can't guarantee you the quality of work because the marketing can't be fully localized, and it is not possible to check all the languages by the manager in charge. Conversely, an agency focused on only one country often provides every service they want to offer, but this also can't guarantee performing every service well. ✅So my best advice would be: 1. Prioritize 1-2 marketing methods that you or your local partner or the expert think would be effective enough for your business/industry. 2. Avoid those gurus who sell too much focused on multilingual marketing with 5-20 languages. 3. One successful expansion can bring significant results for your business. Think about which market should be your priority for your expansion. 🤔What are your thoughts on this? Most people are seeking shortcuts to global lead generation: How to generate 100s of leads with ChatGPT in 2024, the ONE strategy that brought me $8M in digital product sales, how to generate 1000s of leads per day in 10 minutes... The truth is, most of the time, you find yourself these are not working well... Why? 1. You have a different story and a different background 2. Your audience is different, your niche is different. It's just not a "service-based" or "product-based" business. 3. Those vast leads often generate un-quality leads, wasting your time to have a meeting/conversation with each one of them. I'm not saying that those resources are NOT helpful, but I'm saying that there will be no immediate results from those, often misleading their process in marketing. Instead, 1. You can re-visit and improve your SEO efforts in each search engine/app search 2. You can re-visit and improve your funnels/landing pages 3. You can re-think your content strategies for each platform if they are really making proper leads for each. 4. You can analyze whole traffic through Google Analytics and improve the visitors' journey 5. You can re-visit your freebies/lead magnets, thinking if this is really servicing your audience. As a business owner, it's sometimes hard to think and see the marketing efforts objectively. With these habits, I bet you can audit and see which next step is needed for your marketing efforts. Branded Post vs. Just Being Authentic? (브랜딩 잘 된 포스트 vs 다소 사실적인 포스트👇) One of my clients, who is building his drink trade & concierge business, wanted to give a branded look to his business Instagram. Yes, this usually works well to attract an affluent audience. However, it doesn't mean that it can guarantee engagement. When it comes to social media marketing for business, there are two sides to the sword: 1. Keeping the brand image  2. Increasing awareness, engagement, and generating leads These goals sometimes conflict with each other. When we create highly branded content, engagement can drop because it looks promotional or like advertising content. However, we can't just give up on our brand image. From May 13 to June 12, compared to previous months, we found that the number of followers has increased and the engagement rate for reels has risen by 30.43%. However, interactions with carousel posts have dropped by 45.97%, and the reach of carousel posts has decreased by 47.06%. We analyzed the metrics by comparing the recent month to past months. And then we found that this decline is due to the use of highly branded thumbnails on carousel posts, which may discourage audience engagement. On a positive note, the organized feed has contributed to the increase in followers. One of the things we suggested to tackle this was the "strategic use of carousel post thumbnails to provide a more authentic look." More specifically, reduce the use of branded thumbnails to 70% and include 30% of posts with just images as previously used. Test this strategy for one month.
