Inventory-editing is an easy task in the Classic Remake, but the approach is a bit different than other editions.
First place a block in the world
Then, go into Storage-settings in DevTools and select Local Storage and then classic.minecraft.net. Now select the key "savedGame"
This is done differently depending on the browser.
Now go to the wiki-page Classic remake data values and find the decimal of the blocktype you placed. I placed a wooden block and need to replace blocktype 4.
Replace the blocktype-id with whatever you want, I replaced it with Lava (blocktype 17).
To stop the world from resetting when you refresh, remove the join parameter from the url.
Now refresh, and you should see the old block change into the new block.
(in my instance, from wood to lava). Success!
