Minecraft flowchart

I made a complete item flowchart in Microsoft visio ({{static link|Flowchart}}) for a big picture of the game itself. It's based on version 1.5.1 Data values list, but I believe it's a work that can be upgraded further. My original idea was to made it with AMCO 1.5.2 fully implemented, so we could see all the possibilities in this incredible mod pack!! Slowly I will do it, but until then I wonder if it would be praised the sharing of my file Media:Flowchart.png! --SirMortanius 15:40, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Island survival guide?

Would it be possible for anyone to put up an island survival guide? With hardcore mode it's becoming increasingly popular so I think it'd be useful if someone could put one up? -anon-

I'm glad to see a tutorial, but I think we need some way of navigating to the Tutorials page from the Main page for new players. I'm just unsure how to style it to fit the main page format. --JellyfishGreen 13:15, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

How about a link on the main page going to http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Category:Guides ? We just need to create a png for the guides & tutorials icon, maybe a book or something.. DannyF1966 10:47, 6 October 2010

Starting guides

I've merged all the starting type guides into one main guide. It's silly having duplicate information like this. --Monotonehell 06:08, 18 November 2010 (CST)

Guides are written by individuals, and as such have unique language and direction. You cannot claim that one guide is best for everyone. Please leave these alone unless you would like to add your own. MrMatthew 21:35, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
I have not "added my own". The articles were not deleted. All the information has been merged into one article. It's not sensible to have multiple articles all discussing the same thing. That's confusing for readers. This is a wiki, we should not have vanity articles. It's a collaborative effort not the work of an individual. If you feel that something has been missed please add it to the generic article. --Monotonehell 04:57, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

not enough information

Nowhere does it tell you how to eat (that I can find in the tutorials), nor is there any explanation of the new green bar under the health and hunger bars (v. 1.8). A lot of basic information is missing from the tutorials, or if present, is not easily found.

Don't like 1.8, btw. Some of the changes (like the bottom level fog) have ruined what used to be an interesting game experience. Would gladly return to 1.7 if that were possible.

i sort of agree, i liked most of the features in 1.7.3 better, 1.8 is not that good remember, sign your comments people! El_Barto_227, The Half-Creeper! 04:39, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Well, the green bar is your exp. bar, you spend that on enchanting, and you just use the food if your hunger bar is low to eat! -Epicrcf/epic

With all due respect, I'd like to sort things out here. Epicrcf/Epic, I don't think the people above you didn't know what those bars meant; they just were explaining that there wasn't information on them. Although I must sound like a pain for saying that, I agree with all of you about what you commented. Also, the Tutorials page is, in my opinion, very thorough, but could use a little more... Shall we say... Information on how to eat and whatnot. I mean, I could barely comprehend what they were saying when I looked up how to put a T.N.T. cannon together, all though some people might read it easy. Anyone with me here? "The Days after third" tutorial

it would be good if there were tutorials about days after the third day, since players sometimes get confused and can't win the game (can't get to The End) It would be good to see what you can do after the first day.222.111.114.110 08:49, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

You don't win the game in Minecraft. What third day? It's the same thing as all the other days. You just have more things each additional day, so you will be able to do more things. There are so many possibilities. Just go wherever the game leads you. And read up on the pages to find out about them. But we could have a tutorial on the fastest time it takes from the first day to get to the End and read the poem and finish that adventure. - Asterick6 09:42, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
I don't think that there should be a tutorial for every single little thing to do every day in the game, because then some players might think that they have no freedom to do whatever they like. ~User:Lolacool

NaNdummy 18:11, 18 November 2011 (UTC)I created one for enderdragon defeating. Tutorials/Finish_Adventure I might create 4th,5th,6th,7th,8th,9th,and 10th.

You could, but there's an achievement guide which helps you with the achievement part, which in my opinion discusses most of the things you should do with your days. 77.167.182.67 16:22, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

This is what I'm aiming to do in the BGR Project. We're not making specific tutorials for each and every day. What we're doing is expanding on the current "Three Days" tutorials and then creating a page with a list of things to do and when. This allows you to play the game in your own way while still having guidance as to what to do.

Adding your own tutorial

How would one go on about making their own tutorial? For instance, I noticed that there is no tutorial on how to farm Music Discs, and I'd be glad to make one myself. The thing is, it that allowed? Can one simply create a new tutorial subpage, write it, and then link to it on this article? Do we need special permissions? Can only certain users do it? Espyo 14:59, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

AFAIK, any registered user can create a page, at least once they're in the 'autoconfirmed' group (which you should be by now). Name it something like 'Tutorials/Music Disc Farming', and put a link on this page next to the other ones on mob farming. -- Orthotope 15:35, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
To clarify, write a high-quality, clearly written, non-trivial guide. It must be in the 'Tutorials/' namespace. -- Orthotope 17:49, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

dungeon, stronghold and mineshaft finder

This topic is a good way to find a stronghold without an eye of enderor mods, though this is a glitch and Mojang may remove it.

how to make it

to make this you should get a shovel, sticky pistons, redstone, tnt, and a lever.

1. dig a 1x3 hole that is 2 blocks deep.

2. place two sticky pistons at one side of th e hole (facing the other side of the hole)the sw

3. place tnt in front of these pistons.

4. place the lever like this.

     lb
 ____ b__ b=block l=lever

Note:you need to line up the lever with the last part of the hole that is unfilled

wire it up to the pistons. WARNING DO NOT MAKE THE TNT COME IN ANY CONTACT WITH REDSTONE!

5. stand in the hole and turn on the lever, notice that the tnt will be pushed in to you and it will look like the x-ray mod, but without the ores. this is very useful. note: only use tnt. to get out, just jump once. you can locate all the stuff in the title.

Saving to the cloud with Google Drive?

Well, there is already a Dropbox tutorial on how to do it, it may be useful to make another tutorial but on Google Drive. Because you could rename the folder. Or perhaps I should make a tutorial.

What do you think?

Tutorial for allocating additional memory to Minecraft

I accidentally came across a method of radically increasing the allocated memory for Minecraft, in my case, from 1GB to 10GB. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to create a tutorial page for everyone else to see. With the increased memory allocation there would be (theoretically) much less lag.

The gist of the process is that you open a notepad file and write a single line of code, then save it as a batch file and use it to run Minecraft. I personally have seen virtually no lag since using this process. Also, in case anyone was wondering, it does show up as 9,500-ish MB in the F3 HUD, rather than the usual 950MB it usually shows, the percentage is also close to 5% most of the time on memory usage.

--Droid1134 03:15, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

This is a well-known process that the #minecrafthelp channel encourages to use when running into memory errors. The popular Magic Launcher program created by the author of OptiFine also does this within the launcher settings. I personally don't see where instruction like this would fit, but it doesn't sound like tutorial material. Tutorials are more for in-game stuff. It might even be already on the wiki, or there's a hardware/software page where it would fit, but I am not aware of this. Merge

I think that the page could use a couple of tables, as seen in Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Tutorials. --Extreme 16:01, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

 Agree 199.167.133.24 22:45, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
 Disagree A few reasons:
1. Unless you can somehow implement the page breaks (ie. between the Hunger Management tutorial and the Building and construction tutorial) with the table, I am not supporting this idea.
2. You need to fix a few things with the way the table handles links. The table doesn't allow me to link to {{static link|Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Minecraft Defense Manual}} under the Defense tutorial, as it prefixes it with Tutorials/. It also doesn't allow me to link to Mods/Installing mods and Mods/Creating mods for the same reasons. Also for Anvil mechanics and Enchantment mechanics, I can't bypass the redirect - instead of linking directly to Anvil mechanics and Enchantment mechanics, it links to Tutorials/Anvil mechanics and Tutorials/Enchantment mechanics.  Strongly disagree. We already abuse tables far too much on this wiki, we don't need even more of them. The tables provide no benefit and it's far more difficult to run down a list of centred text. If reducing scrolling is what you want, then use column-width to have multi-column lists. ultradude25Talk

User Made Tutorials

User made tutorials should be listed in the "User made tutorials" section, whether they are in the user space or not, and if they are not ready, the author should remove it themselves. --Minecraft5025 (64pxMC16px5025) (Talk! Contributions!) 12:06, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

All tutorials are user made. Having some specifically designated as "user made" and kept in people's userspace is very un-wiki like. If they're kept in people's userspace, then they can't be contributed to and is saying that they own the tutorial. ultradude25Talk

I'm uncomfortable with the idea of pages in my userspace being "advertised" before I've chosen to do that, and I would guess that others might be too. If they were ready, I'd move them to Tutorials/. One of the pages you (M5025) added from my userspace wasn't even a tutorial, but simply a working page to prepare edits to a main article. And I'm probably going to end up simply incorporating the hopper clock "tutorial" into the clock circuit article.
I had the experience recently of someone copying one of my userpages into the main namespace without asking me. It wasn't against the rules, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. And because it was a copy rather than a move, they will forever be listed in the history as the page's creator (they did "acknowledge" me somewhat in the content, but it wasn't the same). That's not what you're doing, but you are somewhat taking liberties with other people's works. They should be the ones to decide whether their pages are ready for wider distribution. This isn't a matter of rules (the wiki owns everything, and anyone can link to or copy anything), but of courtesy.
If you find a tutorial in someone's userspace, I would recommend asking them if it's ready to be published. Sometimes all people need to finish a project is knowing that someone else is interested in it. If they're not interested in finishing it, ask if they'll move it to Tutorials/ so that someone else can work on it.
Munin295 · 16 px 16 px · 17:32, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
If userspace tutorials are to be listed here, they should be moved into the mainspace first. The only way I'd be willing to have links to user pages here is if they're added by the user who created them, not someone else. Of course, it shouldn't need to be said that userspace pages shouldn't be moved by other users either. -- Orthotope 09:35, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Merge the farming tutorials?

I mean, wouldn't it be better to merge them all into a single page? -Creepergoboom64 00:51, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Disagree I think it is easier to find them in separate pages. All the farming tutorials in one page would be too much. CommanderZapp (talk)
Not all of them, but I have combined the Wheat, Carrot, and Potato Farming pages. I've added the combined page to the list: if it suits as a replacement, we can redirect the individual tutorials. --Mental Mouse 11:19, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Agree Definitely agree with merging carrot/potato/wheat and melon/pumpkin, as the techniques are so similar. No big objection to merging skeletons/zombies and spiders/cave spiders for similar reasons. Other mobs and items are different enough to justify continued separation, I suppose.82.69.54.207 19:33, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
Those mobs do have rather different issues, but IIRC one of the mob-farm tutorials already covers all four Overworld spawner types (silverfish excepted), and the other covers darkness spawning. --Mental Mouse 20:26, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Jumbled List

I was browsing the tutorials list when I noticed that tutorials do not fall under the correct categories in some cases. For instance, the Simple Tips and Tricks tutorial is under the Shelters section, even though I believe the contents justify that it should fall under the Beginner Survival category. There are a few others like this, too. If we were to fix these, new members could navigate easier and the OCDs (like me) would be more satisfied.
