Merge[]
The result of the discussion was do not merge.
I found the above in a YouTube Vid. , and confirmed it on the Fire page. It also deals 2X the damage of regular fire in survival mode (Edit: oh, right, and it actually Has fire, too, endlessly-Burns even; so it's kind-of a different hazard from the-other brown block Soul Sand Valleys are named-for).
It's a less bright (10 vs. 15) light source. But it repels Piglins (in all 3 of its forms).
The fact that it doesn't slow players would to me start to be enough to say it's different-enough from soul sand (that'd previously existed). Really, the thing they Do share in common is (as I edited it in, I'll just be repeating here), that 4 of either /both (dunno, haven't tested or seen anybody build a Wither yet with any of the New 1.16 blocks) can be used (and in exactly the same pattern, to be clear) to build a Wither (with 3 Wither Skeleton Skulls).

- Any details about soul fire are not arguments against merging, those are a different block altogether. The only differences are crafting recipes (applies to all merged pages), that soul sand slows players down, and cannot be lit on fire (in java snapshots only, in bedrock it still can); that seems like too little difference to keep them separate. - Strong oppose merging as there's definitely still enough difference between the two blocks. You can't plant nether wart on soul soil, nor light soul sand on fire, soul sand has the not a full block thing going on, they have different sounds which would be hell to have on the same page, very distinct histories, note block interactions, and so on, so this is a terrible suggestion... - User-12316399 (talk) 20:07, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Re-Starting[]
The differences have been decreased enough that I feel this discussion warrants restarting. Currently, the only differences between the two blocks are bubble columns and nether wart growing. Soul sand now acts as a full block for almost all purposes other than entity collision. Both now support soul fire. They generate similarly. They share 4 tags defining their behaviors. Soul soil and soul sand can all be used in the same crafting recipes. I would very much Support this merge. - Strong oppose - simply because they're functionally similar in several ways doesn't mean they should automatically share a page. They're still different blocks (as opposed to variants of the same block) with overall vastly different history, and I see absolutely nothing to be gained by merging the two. There exist other blocks which are far closer to each other in functionality that should be merged together if having only minor differences in functionality is inherent grounds for merging, such as diamond blocks with emerald blocks, or logs with wood. Having them on separate pages isn't hurting anything, and avoids much of the distinction between behaviour that would be needed if they shared a page. Besides, what would such a page be named anyway, since there isn't some master soul block group they could be classified under that would make for a decent page name? - User-12316399 (talk) 00:45, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose – there's still enough differences that they should stay separate IMO. Only soul sand causes note blocks to play cow bell sounds, only soul soil interacts with lava to produce basalt, they generate and are obtained differently, and soul soil does not slow players/mobs down; plus the differences mentioned in the original comment. There's currently isn't that much duplicated information between the pages, and the title of a merged page would have to favor one block over the other (which would be confusing since like Muzik said, they're not variants of the same block). –Sonicwave talk 05:14, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
