Uses for Netherquartz[]

I am just wondering are you adding a Nether Quartz Block that you make with 9 Nether Quartzes Zigzagar 18:53, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Maybe the best place to discuss that would be the Minecraft Forums. But that sounds like a cool idea to me! I think Mojang should add that in the next Snapshot. YoshiOG1 21:30, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

I wasn't actually suggesting I was just wondering if they are are adding that, but yeah I think I should listen to you Zigzagar 21:38, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

i think that maybe the block of quartz (only in that form so not the pillar or chiseld block) could be really usefull if made to act sortof like real life quartz but ofcourse modified: dependend on the strength of the signal aplied directly to the block of quartz it would give of pulses at different intervalls... for example: a redstone wire pointing to the block of quartz at singnal strength 1 (aka lowest possible) would make the block of quartz give a one or 2 tick pulse every 1 second, a block of quartz being directly powered with a lever on to itself is at signal strenght 15 (maximum strength) would give of constant 1 tick pulses each 1 tick appart from the last. You mean like a piezoelectric generator? that would be cool. --Draco rex 21:37, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Does anyone know the approximate XP gain from each ore, as related to other Overworld ores? They seem to drop XP similar to Lapiz but it could be simply the frequency at which one finds them. I'd be curious to know the values. 173.86.124.45 05:24, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Could It be renewable[]

Nether Quartz seems to be popping up quite a bit in red stone and building material. Plus it could be used to add even more dimensions to red stone work. Most of the essential items in the game seem to have a renewable source and i'd like to see one for this as well. I don't know if villager trading would be the way to go. Maybe it could be a rare drop by a nether mob. Any ideas/suggestion on a potential renewable source? Any news on if Mojang plans to make it renewable?

Confusing wording of the trading sub-section.[]

Consider rewording the Trading sub-section. It reads as though the villager will trade (give) a player 12 Nether quartz for 1 emerald, when actually it's 1 emerald for 12 nether quartz. --118.211.67.226 18:31, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

I have just stumbled over the very same linguistic problem. Twice, actually, but I cannot remember the other occasion where it happend a couple of days ago. It took me some time to research, since neither wiktionary nor merriam webster (online) have conclusive examples. Eventually, ChatGPT came up with the best explanation. And, lo' and behold, the direction of "to trade" in English, when saying "I trade x for y" seems to be that x is what I have and am willing to give up when given y; y is what I will take.

The confusion might not solely be based in language, though. My suspicion is that readers have a different mental model of the situation: does one consider the trade description from the player's point of view or the villager's? There may be national biases nonetheless. But my guess is that it depends on whether you consider the villager as a real person? Or as a "vending machine" type game mechanic, where you stick one bit in and get out the other? -- Missingpiece1975 (talk) 21:32, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
