I'd like to note that there was another "unofficial" ingame Minecon in 2010. It was mentioned on the forums before curse took over and now I can't find any information. In-game section[]

There's been a fair amount of edit warring over this section, with references to various events and people alternately added and removed. Given that none of these events were official or endorsed by Mojang, should they even be in the article at all? -- Orthotope ^talk 03:57, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

I was fine with the one activity that Marc Watson supposedly attended, but it was still unfair to the "competitors" if we allowed that one listed but not the others. I do agree that this sort of thing would fall under our policy of not documenting the community, but I sort of stayed out of it. —Kanegasi ☺C 05:25, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Minecon 2013 website currently in construction + References needed[]

I checked that the Minecon 2013 will be on the same website (minecon.mojang.com), and is currently in construction.

Also, the site has a secure signature of GeoTrust Extended Validation SSL CA, which will expire on August 1st, 2014.

In the meantime, the 2013 section of the page requires more references (Source links).

MineCon 2013 website up and running! + More Info[]

The site is now open!
All 3 batches each will be selling 2,500 tickets. Totaling 7,500 tickets!

1st batch will be sold in July 31st at 7:00PM Eastern Daylight Time.
2nd batch will be sold in August 2nd at 10:00AM Eastern Daylight Time.
3rd batch will be sold in August 3rd at 3:00PM Eastern Daylight Time.

There is a countdown timer when tickets will be sold.

Minecon 2k13 youtube vids private!?[]

Any idea why the embedded youtube vids of minecon are private?

All years to have own pages[]

This page is massive, and nearly impossible to load. MineCon 2016 has 47 sub-sections! I think we should have a separate MineCon 2010, MineCon 2011, etc. Thoughts? — Nixinova (talk|edits)

The reason it takes so long to load (and for the excessive number of subsections) is because of the dozens of embedded YouTube videos. Mojang have created playlists for the 2013 and 2015 MineCon videos, which are linked from here in lieu of embedding the videos directly, and it would be ideal if someone could ask them to create playlists for the other years as well (though in the meantime, we should look at alternate ways of presenting the videos - at the very least, they should be presented in a gallery layout instead of each video having its own section). Capitalization to MINECON[]

I propose changing the name from "MineCon" to "MINECON" as Mojang themselves has started using the capitalized version of the name since 2012. This also matches up to the logo. The old format is long not used by many.--skylord_wars (talk) 02:04, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

Logos don't really matter (Minecraft logo is all caps), nor does Mojang capitalization. The game capitalizes a lot of stuff we don't capitalize, the wiki has always followed their own style regarding capitalization. I don't specifically disagree, I don't care enough about this to disagree. But I just wanted to bring these points up since everyone just seems to agree without adding any additional reasons I can agree with. --Pepijn (talk) 18:14, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

Question are there no counterexamples between 2012 and the present, where some official material has called it MineCon? I find it personally hard to believe they'd made a complete switch so long ago, but maybe I just missed it. The one for 2013 is a complete change. As seen in this post, Mojang already used the term "MINECON". So the change started in 2012. Though for consistencies for the wiki, we should change 2011 too. skylord_wars (talk) 02:58, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

Split page into "MINECON" and "Minecraft Live"[]

These two events are completely different things. MINECON is an actual in-person convention, whilst Minecraft Live is just a 90 minute livestream which announces new and upcoming stuff for Minecraft. Recently Mojang announced Minecraft Festival which is again going to be an actual convention that has basically the same premise as MINECON but under a different name. When the event is finally held they still plan to hold Minecraft Live, presumably during and at the convention.

Yes but 2022 is Minecraft Festaval so it's highly unlikely that Minecraft Live will be a recurring event. If we split it in the first place, split it into MINECON for 2010-2016 and MINECON (<what should this even be called?>) for 2017-2022 as they are different. Rename the page[]

The page involves information about MINECON, Minecraft Live, and Minecraft Festival so far, which cannot be well summarized by its title "MINECON" as this name is no longer used on the events since 2020. To better describe the contents, it is suggested that the page be renamed to "Minecraft annual events" (or something else better?). --Hatsuki kiri〔T〕 01:19, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Neutral, it is very much still a MINECON (excluding Minecraft Live because of COVID) as it consists of a gathering of fans. MC Festival is also similar to MINECON. However, the name no longer potrays the article itself as every single recent and future event was not named MINECON (and the title MINECON was dropped entirely in 2020).
