needs a picture / proper structure

I do not believe using spaces between ladders should be considered a bug or an exploit as the character is two blocks tall thus can reach a ladder one block up which is realistic, and most likely intended. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.244.1.22 (Talk) 06:02, 12 July 2010 (UTC). It appears (1.9pre2) that this has been fixed and is no longer possible to do. Shame.--Draco18s 02:13, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
It was fixed in 1.5. That comment is over a year old. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 05:46, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
We could still jump a block high from the top of a ladder however. This was fixed of course, you now must place a full height of ladders to the block you want to get to. 71.90.29.119 00:24, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

They do block water[]

before placing the ladder
after placing the ladder

There was a good wait before I took the second screenshot after I placed the ladder to block the water so I'm pretty sure that they block water and this seems to have been changed accordingly.

Can mobs climb ladders?[]

I ask because I have a vertical ladder along the outside of my house. I just found a sheep on top of my house, standing where the end of the ladder is? Can mobs climb ladders O_O? If so, that is bad, and a danger to my house and I... imagine a creeper climbing the roof then falling into my home... deadly. Lil diriz 77 15:19, 6 September 2010 (CDT)

Im not sure. I had a bunch of little slimes following me in an old Alpha update and they could get up ladders, but now currently, mobs chasing me dont follow up a ladder.Toadbert
I see. Thanks for the help. :) Lil diriz 77 15:43, 6 September 2010 (CDT)
It may have just spawned there. i did have a creeper on my rooftop once, as well as a zombie in the basement, they just spawned there. to keep hostile mobs away from your house, create enough light with torches so they dont spawn. BlueLegion 16:59, 6 September 2010 (CDT)
I can confirm that they "can climb" as well as going down a ladder, but lack the A.I. to do so. If you manage to make them stop walking "in rounds" (typical of the AI when you're at the same X-Y coordinates on a different Z-level), they would climb or descend ladders.GDVL 16:55, 7 September 2010 (CDT)
In layman's terms: They CAN climb ladders but hey will not usually TRY to climb ladders. They try to move around just like usually, and they will climb the ladder ONLY if they bump and walk towards the wall the ladder is on, just like the player uses the ladders. Their path finding AI does not count ladder routes, so they will only use them if they happen to bump into them. That way the mobs' use of ladders is possible, but unintentional (What I mean is them using the ladders to move around is unintentional, not the coding for it. Notch (likely) did that on purpose.). Non-Solid or solid?[]

Is ladder solid block or not? It can block water. But it appers only as sprite on other blocks. And it is in Non-Solid group in Blocks template. Zaqq 10:53, 20 October 2010 (CDT)

it is solid. go put it on the wall and wall-hug until you hit it. it is most definitely solid.--Kizzycocoa 11:25, 20 October 2010 (CDT)
If you take a closer look you will see the ladder is NOT a sprite on other blocks, it is clearly floating few pixels away from the block it is placed on. Also the black selection box around it shows it is not flat. --TheKax 17:14, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Multiplayer[]

Do ladders actually work in multiplayer? Someone keeps saying on the crafting page that they don't, and I'm pretty sure they do. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 03:12, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Ladders work perfectly in SMP. -Psispin 03:20, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 03:31, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Falling sand/gravel to resource block[]

When i was messing with Torch and ladders i mistakely placed a gravel block and it fell through the Torch (i remeber this was patched) and when it hit the ladder it turned into a Resource block. I tried this with the ladder alone and it acted like it hit normal ground (with the Torch alone it just went right through the Torch). Can someone test and confirm this

Ladder Bug[]

Since Beta 1.5, I can place ladders into other ladders, causing the new ladder to be placed on the opposite wall. Someone please confirm this. Tom Rad 20:53, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

They always acted like that, placing against any surface will cause them to attach to any free space adjacent to the face of a block you were aiming.Toadbert

Lava ceilings[]

Lava ceilings would appear to have stopped working as of the May 31 update. Because now ladders burn.

Ladders on glowstone after 1.6.6[]

I think that ladders would be placeable on glowstone again, aren't they? Cosmoconsole 06:13, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

1.1 Water bug[]

Placing a bucket of water directly on the wall with a ladder on it, the ladder is replaced with the liquid without dropping anything; how to waste a ladder. NOTCH WHAT DID YOU DO!! xddd I don't know if this happens with lava too :/ --93.70.72.98 13:34, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Ladder hit boxes[]

The page says that you cannot stand on ladder tops anymore. But in i just tested it and you can. At least in the latest pre-release. You can't in 1.1. Jens removed it, but put it the next weekly-release back. So when 1.2 comes out, it can be fixed on the page I think. I change the page. :D CrazyBliep (NL Admin) - 30 Februari 2012 0:54 (UTC)

New Ladder recipe yield as of 12w08a[]

As of the newest snapshot 12w08a the ladder recipe yields 3 ladders. --10.0.0.123 14:22, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Wrong version; it's actually 1.2 Preview, not 12w08a. I just checked and it still produced 2. --M0rphzone (talk) (*How to remove sidebar*) 22:34, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Move to Ladder[]

The in-game name is "Ladder", not "Ladders". I see no reason why this page should be named Ladders. --GALAKTOSTalk – Win8βx64, Java7x64, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 10:35, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Yea, this page should be moved. --M0rphzone (talk) (*How to remove sidebar*) 22:34, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

New Ladder breaking problem?[]

I've been trying to remove ladders and I get the slow breaking problem like when you're crouching on a ladder or standing underwater, even thought I am standing on solid ground. This didn't happen before. Can anyone else confirm this? I quit and restarted, and now it only happens about half the time. PuzzleMage 20:19, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

No-Climb ladders[]

I need some serious help for my worlds, I try to load up the worlds and use ladders, but they don't work at all; they act like they are there, but don't recognize that I can climb them, like hanging vines. I am in serious trouble if this doesn't get fixed soon... anybody have any ideas? I do have several mods, but they have worked in the past and not screwed up ladders.

Ladder trivia additions[]

I think the trivia section of the Ladder page should include these items.

1. Eating while ascending or descending does not effect speed while on a ladder.

2. You can craft basic items while you are on a ladder while descending with no penalty to speed.

3. If you are on a ladder and access a crafting table you will descend and still be able to craft even if you are well out of reach of the craft table.

4. If you access a storage box while on a ladder you can still interact with the box even if you descend out of normal reach.

Air pockets in Bedrock - not working[]

I'm not sure about the Java edition since the Aquatic Update, because I play Bedrock, but in Bedrock when I place a ladder on a wall going underwater, I just get a ladder in the water. I see no air pocket. A ladder will displace water only if the water is placed around the ladder after the ladder is put in place. The same seems to be true for other things like signs and doors. ~Amatulić (talk) 16:57, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

I've modified the Placement section of the article accordingly. ~Amatulić (talk) 05:49, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
I've tested in Java edition, and placing a ladder on a wall (source block) does not create air pocket. I think the same case as Bedrock edition.
I've added an image. please check. BSkyWcloud (talk) 12:35, 10 February 2019 (UTC)BSkyWcloud

Horizontal friction is the same as on ice[]

I read "The player's horizontal movement friction is the same as on ice", and think horizontal movement speed is very high (in small area). I tried several ways, but horizontal movement is rather slow. Is it true? or there's any way to test?–Preceding unsigned comment was added by BSkyWcloud (talkcontribs) at 12:33, 10 February 2019 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
