Whether horse armor makes that much of a difference[]

So, I was noticing that Horse Armor only adds a Slight difference, in the number of times (until the fully 2X-Protection, Diamond Horse Armor) one "can hit a Horse with a Diamond Sword ('!' isn't it only about 2X, the Player can be hit with a D Sword, if unarmored?!) before it dies," (sic). I'm not sure about the details of this (whether that's a re-Bred Horse, which's [maybe] got extra Hearts in a descending generation [up to whatever Max.]), but it seems to me that if the full range of possibilities for a Horse are "Diamond Armor" to "no Armor," with the more-available than Gold, Iron Armor having again only 50%-greater, instead of the 200% greater Protection of Diamond, we can more-easily set priorities, for the "average" Horse.

This is aside form, er from looking good in whichever-color Armor, or there being no Durability limitations, to it (hence Gold Armor for example providing 100% more Protection, is a better deal, than usual Armor /Tool-using crafting recipes). I'm also not sure of the Exact details (in here I'll assume it's the Same as with Spider Jockeys: depending on careful aiming, you Can have a Horse and-rider, hit-separately, to the point that one can be killed Without even damaging, the other, depending on maintaining the targeting again; additionally, I'm pretty Sure there might be ways, that Only the Horse would be hit, as when for-example the rider has it in "Jumping," mode, or at least is at a diagonal vertical angle between the rider and an attacker. Or of course only rider, hit), of Horse-mounted damage absorption, but so back to those rations, er ratios.

Assuming it's Survival, so materials are limited (and I get Many, Stacks of Iron Blocks but only several extra single Gold Ingots and /or Diamonds), while Horses can be Healed, slightly using "Wheat" it says in one place, "Carrots" in another place, I'll assume (Golden even) Apples if Wheat, anyway they're able to be sort of "repaired," heh (and Hay Bales might make this faster, let-alone help in Taming, them). Well, then When, exactly might one want to focus on Armoring, one's given Horse?

Again, the Sooner you Armor it, the longer it (theoretically, possibly) lives (just in combat); the higher the Armor's Protection, again only in-theory, same too. But it's really easy to Breed (if then Tame) new Horses, so if within-range of a given Base, in which one has both Horses to be Bred, and materials for Armor, it all comes down to comparing the Player's Hearts, to the Horse(s)'(s), the Player Armored, to the given Horse, Armored or Not: I'd say that while in the last 50% of the Horse's life, you'd definitely at least Want it to be Armored (assuming that involves combat; also, I do Not know if dying Horses drop Armor for re-use, though I'll assume they do), well, that leaves for again the "average" Horse (and if the same Hearts as the Player), some-time Before that, the first 50% of its life, it could get-Armored, at earliest, I'm assuming then say 25% (just as a vague guesstimate) into its use period; not to beat a dead Horse. Horse armor not craftable?[]

Dumb. I think it is a very stupid idea to not make horse armor craftable. So now I am mad! Now what is the point of crafting it with 1 wool and 6 diamond/gold/iron if you can't craft it. I really wanted to make horse armor easily.

Enchanted horse Armor[]

I enchanted some diamond horse with a thorns book in creative, and it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone else verify that enchantments don't work on horse armor? | JSan 13:31, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

What do you mean, "it doesn't seem to work"? Did the armor not change appearance like other enchanted items would, or did it just not have any effect? (Never tried enchanting horse armor myself, but the article does state that enchanted horse armor won't have any effects on the horse)--Springacres 20:50, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Update - just tried it, and while the armor changes appearance in the inventory and the enchantment shows up, it doesn't look any different from non-enchanted armor when it's on the horse, is that what you meant?--Springacres 20:59, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Sinking[]

I've noticed that horses cannot swim while wearing armor, and will sink and drowned if they fall into a water deeper then 2 blocks. GhostVengeance (talk) 04:54, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

This doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Might have been a bug they fixed. Horses, armored or not, will kick their rider off and then slowly rise to the surface of the water like any other mob. --Kahless61 (talk) 21:23, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Hackable?[]

I was curious if it was possible to hack in a horse with armor already on it or better yet, an untamed one with armor. If possible please tell me and otherwise, please research this. Purple Spy (talk) 23:35, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

It is possible using /summon and nbt tags found in Chunk format#Mobs --KnightMiner (t|c) 01:10, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Does Thorns work on Horse Armor?[]

To be exact, when one enchants horse armor with Thorns level 3, will the Enchantment affect the horse? Since Thorns affects mobs other than the wearer, would it work ion Horse Armor? Brickticks (talk) 17:45, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Enchanted horse armor will not affect the horse. –LauraFi - talk 17:52, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
But will thorns still work as it doesn't affect the wearer but the mobs around the wearer? Brickticks (talk) 19:25, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
No, see #Enchanted horse Armor above. –LauraFi - talk 21:04, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Leather horse armor icon[]

Can anyone see the leather horse armor icon? I added it to Template:InvSprite, but I'm not sure I did it correctly, and I'm sure now it's not a caching issue, since it's been a day. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 03:25, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Works for me; maybe it's your browser cache? -- Orthotopetalk 03:51, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, yep, that was it. -_- – Sealbudsman talk/contr 05:39, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Renewable[]

The renewable part of the infobox is incorrect as iron can be dropped by zombies and gold by zombie pigmen. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 1.152.105.76 (talk) at 5:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Iron and gold horse armor is not craftable, so it is not renewable, even though iron and gold ingots are. -- Orthotopetalk 05:34, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
