Reduce by 10%..?[]
Taken from the flint page: "Of course, this reduces their stash of gravel by 10%, but they benefit from the increase in this uncommon crafting material."
If the player has 100 blocks of gravel, mines them all and gets one flint, the total amount of gravel the player lost was 1%.
More than just a torch[]
The part where it says...
"If a gravel block falls onto a torch from any height, it will break, but has no chance of creating flint, this does not happen on ladders or any other items"
isn't entirely true. I have also done this trick with flowers, seeds, sugar cane, and saplings. I'd also "guess" mushrooms too. --DJAikou 06:29, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

- A number of partial blocks can break gravel, but AFAIK that never produces flint -- it has to be mined, though even bare hands will do. --Mental Mouse 15:21, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
Some 1.3_01 statistics[]
I just mined 3 iron shovel's worth of gravel (251 x 3) = 753 uses. I earned 65 flint.
That is statistically 8.6% drop rate. Down from the expected 10% (Margin of Error against Infinity is 3.6%)
I did notice however, that, gravel mined from the side yielded less flint, than gravel mined from the top. More experiments would be needed to determine if this is true.
Last trivia-entry not true[]
As of Minecraft Release 1.0.0, already mined gravel indeed does produce flint if placed and mined another time. i dont know about ssp, but in smp it certainly does produce flint then.
Renewablility[]

- The code checks for silk touch first, so you'll get gravel. Fortune will be used if silk touch does not apply to a block (such as nether wart). -- Orthotope 06:37, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
