Rename[]

Mojang had officially stated that this is not crawling[1], it is just suffocation prevention, so this page should be moved, and all links to it changed. FVbico (talk) 06:40, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

I rescind my support. - tryashtar (talk) 18:17, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
Weak oppose as sneaking could also be considered a form of suffocation prevention. - User-12316399 (talk) 22:58, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
Not sure on the term "suffocation prevention"; "dynamic player model" or something may be more fitting. – Nixinova Nixinova sig1 Nixinova sig2 07:50, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
Wouldn't sneaking still be counted under that, though? - User-12316399 (talk) 14:51, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
What about the term "height adaptation" or "collision adaptation" since it has something to do with specific block height? Also it is not necessarily prevents you from suffocation, instances like half slab or hanging lantern does not suffocate you at all. I don't know what is the best term instead of adaptation (maybe conformation), but I'd propose something like that. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 10:45, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
Oppose Although HelenAngel stayed that this mechanic is not called “crawling”, she did not give an official name. If crawling makes sense to most people, then we should keep the current name until there is an official name. The BlobsPaper 01:04, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
Helen just said in todays livestream "Yeah, I would call it suffocation prevention", when I asked what she would call it. Is that enough to move this page now? FVbico (talk) 20:24, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Done I moved the page. The BlobsPaper 22:58, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
Did we even come to a consensus as to whether it should be moved though? If we're calling this suffocation prevention, we should merge sneaking into this page as well. - User-12316399 (talk) 00:21, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
I disagree, sneaking has to be manually activated, unlike this, which happens whenever your character can no longer stand due to environmental changes. Additionally, with helen's statement, this actually became the official name, crawling was a community made up one. FVbico (talk) 00:40, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
Since HelenAngel said that she would call this particular mechanic suffocation prevention, we now have an official name. Since there are several other ways to prevent suffocation, a disambiguation page. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Blobs2 (talkcontribs) at 22:19, 01 August 2019 (UTC). Close topic[]

Well, can we close this topic? It was moved back to "Crawling" because it is now the official term given by Mojang. Supeika (talk) 21:25, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Should Bedrock crawling history be added?[]

Should we add history for the Bedrock crawling? I know that it's a glitch but the the execution of the crawling animation with elytra in 1.9 was added in the history section of Java Edition crawling which is a glitch too like the Bedrock crawling. Slardna (talk) 12:44, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

I'd say no, for both Java and Bedrock, and especially Bedrock because crawling was never a planned feature. The history section is for describing deliberate changes implemented by developers in each revision of the game. There are countless glitches that have been observed at one time or another and there is no reason to document them as part of the development history unless the glitch was specifically addressed in the official release notes. Amatulic (talk) 21:23, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Remember that Crawling started as a secondary effect of a bug fix, and it is implemented fully on Java. Bedrock don't has this fully implemented, but it is there. This article explained that. After saying that, I think that the history section should be rewritten to make it have less glitch-like situations, but without removing all of them. Supeika (talk) 23:22, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

intentional crawls[]

https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/how-crawling-came-minecraft mentions they considered adding a dedicated hotkey so you could crawl whenever you lik,e but left it out so you could only do it using tricks.

I noticed in the "Minecraft War" mod that people do this all the time out in the open though to reduce visibility when sneaking outside enemy bases.

Are these hotkeys incorporated into mods like that? Tycio (talk) 19:24, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

I don't know the answer, but thanks for the link. I have added it as a citation in the history section of the article. Amatulic (talk) 00:31, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
