Main article: Blackstone

Ever thought how cobblestone would look like if it were black? Well, that's almost what blackstone is. It is equally hard, resistant to explosions and can be used in some recipes instead of cobblestone.

Originating from the Nether, blackstone generates in the basalt deltas biomes, bastion remnants and in blobs between levels y equals 5 and 25. It can also be obtained by bartering with piglins. Blackstone can be obtained by mining it with any pickaxe, and mining it without a pickaxe will result in nothing.

Blackstone can be used to craft blackstone slabs, stairs and walls via the usual slab stair and wall recipes. You can also use it in place of cobblestone in the recipes for furnaces, brewing stands and stone tools, for these recipes any mix of cobblestone and blackstone is allowed. Putting blackstone in a 2 by 2 square in the crafting grid also allows you to make 4 polished blackstone. Blackstone can also be used to repair stone tools in both anvils and grindstones.

You can also put blackstone in a stonecutter to make blackstone wall, blackstone stairs, 2 blackstone slabs, polished blackstone, polished blackstone wall, polished blackstone stairs, 2 polished blackstone slabs, polished blackstone bricks, polished blackstone brick wall, polished blackstone brick stairs, 2 polished blackstone brick slabs and chiseled polished blackstone... Whoo! That is a mouthfull...

Although it can be used to craft stone tools, brewing stands‌ and furnaces, it cannot be used to craft dispensers, droppers, pistons or other blocks that use cobblestone in their recipes.

If you create a new world and obtain blackstone before any cobblestone, you will also receive the stone age advancement in Java Edition.

So blackstone kind of is the cobblestone of the Nether. If you ever challenge yourself to do survival, starting from the Nether, don't forget to grab blackstone with your crimson or warped planks-made pickaxe.
