A pillar is a tall object that spawns hordes of mobs in Minecraft Dungeons.

Appearance[]

As its name suggests, a pillar is a small stone pillar. It the ones in Howling Peaks have a few small runes on its sides and one larger one on top; these runes glow blue and purple while the pillar is active. The bottom of the pillar has a few open spaces with gold inside them, which can be attacked and used to eject wind. Pillars are surrounded by a box-shape floor tile which also glows purple and blue while the pillar is active. The ones in the Fiery Forge, Arch Haven, Creepy Crypt and the Highblock Halls look similar, but have a more simplistic design and emit red light. There is also a special glowing jungle pillar that exclusively appears in the treetop tangle.

Jungle pillars are similar to rune pillars but have a special green glow.

Redstone/Stone Pillars[]

Stone and Redstone pillars only activate if the hero interacts with them. The mobs that can spawn from a pillar include:

Stone Pillar Only[]

Stone and redstone pillars don’t do anything but spawn mobs, unlike the ones in Howling Peaks and Echoing Void. These pillars often will open doors or spawn chests after their events are completed.

Rune Pillars[]

Unlike Redstone and Stone pillars, when a hero gets nearby a pillar, it activates and begins glowing. The pillar then begins spawning mobs in the same fashion as a mob spawner, but the pillar spawns different mobs and does not have a visible health bar. The mobs that a howling peaks pillar can spawn include:

As mobs spawned by the rune pillar are killed, it begins deactivating and Howling Peaks pillars occasionally eject gusts of wind from themselves, which push away nearby entities. Echoing Void pillars will instead create a mini explosion on themselves, which gives the hero the Voided effect if they are inside. After more mobs are killed, the pillar is eventually deactivated. On Multiplayer, the pillar spawns mobs a lot more often.

Rune pillars are often used to open doors and gates, where a nearby one is closed after the pillar activates. Once the pillar is deactivated, the door/gate opens again and the hero is free to pass.

Tempest Golem[]

Two rune pillars appear on each side of the tempest golem's arena, where they play an important role during the boss battle. The pillars are linked to the tempest golem's arms, so deactivating one of the pillars also deactivates one of it's arms. If both are deactivated, the tempest golem will become stunned and vulnerable to attack. The pillars reactivate after the tempest golem's stun period is over, and both of them immediately deactivate when the boss dies. They can also deactivate squall golems but will restore once the pillars are reactivated to support the tempest golem. Each pillar took half the amount of time to deactivate as compare to the rest of the pillars.
