A snow-troll as depicted in The Rings of Power
Snow-trolls may have been a pale subspecies of trolls in Middle-earth that stalked their prey and were adapted to cold frozen environments.
History[]
Snow-trolls are mentioned only once in Tolkien's works, in reference to Helm Hammerhand clad in white and stalking his enemies "like a snow-troll" during his sorties against the Dunlendings in the Long Winter.[1]
In adaptations[]
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power[]
In the first episode of The Rings of Power's first season, Galadriel and her companions are attacked by a snow-troll while exploring Dúrnost, the abandoned fortress of Sauron in the wastes of Forodwaith. The creature injures several of the Elves before Galadriel slays it with Thondir's aid.[2]

Video games[]
- Snow-trolls are depicted in The Rise of the Witch-king, the expansion pack to The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II, as shorter trolls from Angmar who maneuver quickly and wield large pickaxes. They can also trample enemies, due to their function as cavalry units.
- In The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, snow-trolls are enemies.
- LEGO The Hobbit: The Video Game features a playable snow-troll character in the Big Little Character Pack DLC.
