“Old Master's son Thomas Drowne June 28, 1768, and Though I will promise to Discharge my office, yet I shall vary as ye wind.”— Food for the grasshopper
Thomas Drowne was the son of Shem Drowne.
Background[]
Thomas' father was coppersmith Shem Drowne, who crafted the gilded grasshopper fixture on top of Faneuil Hall.[1][2] When the grasshopper fell due to an earthquake, Thomas fixed and replaced it.[1] Inside of the grasshopper is a note written by Thomas, which according to Marty Bullfinch, leads to Shem Drowne's treasure.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Thomas Drowne was the real-life son of Shem Drowne, and the story of his repairing the grasshopper weathervane was a real-life event, as well as the existence of the "food for the grasshopper" note written by Thomas, with the exception of the last line involving Shem Drowne's treasure.
Appearances[]
Thomas Drowne is mentioned only in Fallout 4.
