Fear not, Though Devil's iron makes this Blade, only he who Wields can make it Wicked.— Shem Drowne

Shem Drowne was a coppersmith buried in Boston.

Background[]

Drowne was a coppersmith who crafted the gilded grasshopper statue on top of Faneuil Hall on May 25, 1742.[1][2] His son Thomas fixed and replaced it on June 28, 1768, after it had fallen due to an earthquake.[1] Inside of the grasshopper is a note written by Thomas, which according to Marty Bullfinch, leads to Shem Drowne's treasure.[2]

Drowne was buried in the North End graveyard. In alignment with the note's contents, Nick Valentine comments on the fact that Drowne was unable to let go of his material possessions, finding his grave comprised of his skeleton, including his disarticulated skull, the note fear not, his sword, a gold bar, two silver bars, and three copper bars.[3] Drowne's note reads, "Fear not, Though Devil's iron makes this Blade, only he who Wields can make it Wicked."[4]

Appearances[]

Shem Drowne's skeleton appears only in Fallout 4.
