Source[]

i just found an apparent source for the protectron: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nerdcoreblog/3456152521/in/set-72157616965107173/ --87.185.68.178 12:23, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, that's Robby the Robot, on which the design of the Protectron was based or at least heavily influenced. FEVDipped 23:33, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

talking about physics glitches, Protectrons are not the only ones to be seen flying by ... check what I captured (it happens on regular bases):

Gremlins[]

There is a very protectron looking robot in the film Gremlins. I'm 81.234.140.17, Adjust. 12:17, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

I know its perhaps extremely late to ask this but... aproximately where in the movie? Is it hidden in the background or obscured somehow? It might have been a Robby the Robot reference as well, but i'd like to see it.--DrMGinius 01:18, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

It's actually in Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Billy's father is in a scene talking on the phone at an inventor's convention, and there's a 50s sci-fi robot in the background speaking, turning down the proposition of a drink because it promotes rust. I think by 'protectron-looking' it would be more appropriate to say a very Robby the Robot looking design, after all the protectron is based on him.Mcelf 00:19, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

Its also in the first one in a similar scene, Billy's father is on the phone and it walks past him.Zoso1219 21:31, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Tips[]

One common mistake when fighting Protectrons is to aim at the small glowing bulb on top of their heads when trying to score a head shot. This is a small target, and it's easy to miss and hit nothing but air. In actuality, the robot's "head" consists of the entire metal structure on top of their torso, including the large metal "neck/jaw" in front. This is a large target that's fairly easy to hit, so aim at the center of the metal "head" for best results. However, if you are trying to destroy a Protectron that is friendly or simply not attacking, then an easy way to destroy it would be to stand right in front of it and repeatedly fire into it's head without a pause. The Protectron for some reason won't even begin to attack; rather it will stand there and speak untill you either stop for any reason (it will attack if given time) or destroy it. Alternatively, you can target the combat inhibitor in it's back, let it go crazy, and let other NPCs kill it off for you, though they may turn on you later.

Protectrons seem to have a weakness to the power fist, Flamer, and the Shishkebab. The removal of the combat inhibitor on a Protectron's back (i.e. shooting it off) will cause the robot to frenzy, attacking friend and foe alike. Also a Plasma rifle, Laser rifle or any energy weapon will easily kill it. The Protectron inside Metro Central won't attack you once you activate it if you have a metro ticket. - There are several of these in different stations in rooms usually close to the Entrance/exit. Once activated they will check the player for a Metro ticket, and if you have one, it will remain non-hostile to the player.

Another similar situation is the unit in Super Duper Mart. There should be an Employee ID on top of the computer next to it that it will scan for, and will then wander off to attack the raiders. Yet another in the Olney sewers, with a Uitility Worker I.D. clutched in the hand of a skeleton, although... this Protectron won't last very long. Specifically, activating the unit will cause a Deathclaw to saunter into the room.

If the player is able to get near a Protectron, they are quite easy to kill as they are slow to move and turn. Simply running around the robot and attacking from behind with the weakest of Melee Weapons will almost always kill them. Even if you're caught without a weapon, one could easily fight a Protectron while unarmed.

If you look through some terminals when playing through the Pitt you can find where some pre-war factory workers managed to bring one down. If they can do it I'm sure it's not difficult at all for someone who survives solely by killing and breaking things to do so.TestECull 15:58, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

Home Decorations[]

Can you pick up a deactivated Protectron from somewhere like the RobCo Factory or the Nuka Cola Facility? I haven't tried it as my new character didn't find it yet but a Nuka Cola Protectron would be a nice addition to my house. I also can't just spawn one as I'm on the PS3 edition. --KnightNapier 17:52, September 12, 2009 (UTC)

You can't drag a protectron through a door, so no. I tried it.--Chipgambino 05:44, December 6, 2009 (UTC)

Hallelujah, it's raining Protectrons![]

I was playing today and just doddering around the wasteland, when suddenly I saw something fall from the sky. Firelance? Nope. It was a normal protectron that rolled in the ground few times before it came at halt. I couldn't interact with it anyway, and it seemingly wasn't neither alive nor dead. However, using resurrect-console command at it caused it to surge forward for about two seconds in the air, and always in the same direction. I have no bleeding idea what that was about. --Muurensalaatti

Mystery solved itself: The Protectron couldn't stand Big Town and flew away. While doing Big trouble in Big Town, only the broken sentry bot was to be found in the junkyard. --Same person as the one up there.

Protectron voice[]

I've noticed the most of the other robots speak in a fairly consistant fashion but Protectron's seem to increase the pitch/speed of their voice on certain words, is this worth mentioning in the article?

New Vegas[]

Is it confirmed that they are in New Vegas? I remember seeing one in one of the trailers, but that could just as easily be a statue like in the RobCo Facility. Kris (talk) 21:02, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

You probably seen they are in already, but, interistingly, they suffer the same physics glitch in FO:NV too.--DrMGinius 01:19, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

Protectron Base[]

so does anyone think that the protectron charging station or something should be added Fryingpan57 01:26, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

Factory Protectron[]

Where does it appear and in what game? Yes Man default 09:36, July 13, 2011 (UTC)

There are two variants of Factory Protectron. In vanilla FO3, inside the Nuka-Cola plant there is a factory protectron( it looks like any other protectron), that can be activated. It will scan for an ID, and turn hostile if you do not have one.

If you have GOTY edition, or if you simply bought the Pitt DLC then there is a new variant of protectron also called factory protectrons, which can only be found in the Pitt. They are yellow, and have hardhats instead of bulbs :P

Removed Section template[]

After cleaning up some text another editor added to the missing detail sections, I removed the {{Section}} templates. If these templates were placed for a specific reason, please feel free to replace them. If you do so, please explain why so everyone will know--Thanks! UncleBubba 15:19, September 17, 2011 (UTC)

Quotes[]

I almost laughed myself to death listening to the quotes! But I haven't heard most of them in game though--The Leaping Eagle 16:41, April 21, 2012 (UTC)

What's a "Construction Drone"?[]

When I was playing The Pitt, inside the yard where I need to collect steel ingots, there are four yellow Protectrons that may be activated by hacking a Maintenance Terminal right below their storage pods. These yellow Protectrons are painted exactly like those "Construction Drones", with an extra cage around their combat inhibitors. They're identified as "Factory Protectron" in-game, so what are Construction Drones? --173.178.17.48 03:01, May 27, 2012 (UTC)

The only Construction Drones that I've seen were in New Vegas in the Old World Blues add-on. User:Great_MaraMessage 03:30, May 27, 2012 (UTC)
Huh. Thanks for clearing that up. --173.178.17.48 17:01, May 27, 2012 (UTC)

Yields[]

I kept trying to yield to the protectron in the Super-Duper mart and he kept shooting; I've had quite a history with screwing up yields a lot, so I was just wondering if we should add anything to the effect of "they don't accept yields" or anything of that nature. 63.131.170.187 19:45, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Warehouse protectrons[]

I noticed there's a picture of the "Warehouse protectron" under on the page, and now somebody posted that the protectrons in the Super-Duper Mart have a ref id that's not on this (ref id = 0006d921), could someone look into this? It may be that we missed a type in the article- Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 09:58, May 15, 2014 (UTC)
