Which is better? Plasma rife or laser rifle? 99.54.11.138 04:14, 16 May 2009 (UTC) lilgamer

It depends entirely on the situation. Standoff? Laser rifle. Close-quarters? Plasma rifle. --MadCat221 04:56, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

WTFAIL?![]

Why in the name of science does there seem to be recoil when firing laser weapons? Methinks photons with such little mass would not generate enough recoil to be noticeable. Probably though, the people at Beth were just being ridiculously lazy.

Yeah you're spot on mate. I did physics in highschool for under one year and even I know that lol. It wouldn't make water ripple either since it's just light and not an atual projectile. Since water is semi-reflective part of the beam would pass through the water without causing a ripple, and the other part of the beam would be reflected back up off of the water at the same angle it came in at. At least I think thats what would happen, someone smarter can probably confirm that for you lol.--92.2.178.93 20:56, September 7, 2009 (UTC)

Wow, I didnt know that they actually taught SCIENCE! in highschools. And for the previous post, 'ridiculously lazy?' I'm no Bethboy but you could say the same thing about the original FO games as well... I mean, how ridiculously lazy it was for the developers to use the SMG animation for the .223? Or for the inventory icon for the power armour to be just a helmet? I mean, are we to assume that it is some sort of *snigger* magical helmet that somehow becomes a full suit of armour? Meh, like it matters anyway. --Ishotamaninnewreno 12:02, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

Anyone thought it was for simplicity or so they could get the game out on time? 81.158.136.23 14:30, October 25, 2009 (UTC)Guest

Ooor... because it's such a unnimportant, uninteresting, ridiculously small detail/characteristic that no one but a handful of science geeks would notice AND care AND complain about... C'mon, guys, it's a game where people live under the ground for 200 years and the Earth is dominated by giant scorpions, talking trees and a president who is computer. It's very easy to overlook some small think like photons on water, get over it. -- D. Cello 17:19, October 25, 2009 (UTC)

Though all of these facts are true and the laser rifle is slow and has inacurate recoil, I must point out that this is just one weapon and if you dont like it use something else. It is but one gun and even though I am completly wrapped up in fallout as much as the next gamer, it is just a game and somthing as little as recoil on a laser weapon is not worth the web time. find somthing else to disscus. Like how cool the gun is when you vaporize some wastland asshole in VATS WOOT WOOT!!!Nukacolacap 05:51, December 3, 2009 (UTC)nukacolacap

actually I think that laser rifles use a different animation from any other weapon, I am not sure, but if they were making a new animation it would have actually been easier to just leave out the recoil... Also why does the gatling laser fire rapid fire, if you wanted to make a laser that shoots really fast why don't you just make it continuous beam... it would probably be easier to animate too. unsigned

Plasma vs. Laser[]

Why in the description of the laser rifle does it say that the laser rifle has a much faster firing rate than the plasma rifle? This is false, as the plasma rifle can easily fire nearly triple the rate of the laser rifle, making it much more effective at close range.

It seems that whoever added that must've had a near 100% CND Laser Rifle and a crummy CND Plasma Rifle, not knowing that CND affects rate of fire. Sign your posts please --Master of cheeZ 22:48, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

I fixed that little problem for you guys and i have a message for whoever put that incorrect info up; Check your facts next time!

Scope?[]

When holding the Laser Rifle from a first-person perspective, it becomes pretty clear that there's a small lens-like glass disc behind where you would load the Micro Fusion Cell. From looking at it, it appears to be a scope... but if it is, why is it behind the MF Cell, and why can't you use it? Doesn't really look like there's any other explanation for it being there.

--117649AnnihilativeRepentance 20:42, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

It's not a scope if it's there. 11px-Naglowaa_se.gif Tagaziel (call!) 22:57, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

You're right and wrong there is no scope but in 3rd person the PC seems to think that he can use a MF cell as a scope and the MF cell is round which creates the illusion that there is a scope oh and the lens like peice of glass is either a place where the MF cell conects, like a battery, or it is a focousing lens for the laser beam Outcast115 23:52, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

AER12[]

Can somebody tell me where the AER12 Laser Rifle is mentionned? I'd just like to know. Thanks. --SSDGFCTCT9 20:40, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

On a terminal in the Citadel, in an article on the AER9. Nitty 20:46, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

I hate this game sometimes[]

Right My situation is this: Doc Hoff has gone, I can't invest in him. And, on a trader route Iv found an ash pile not marked as empty. Im using plamsa's so its not my kill

But for some reason i can't acess the ash piles inventory. Im using a ps3 and this has never happened before.

What this has to do with the laser rifle? There are a number of weapons who could have done that. Maybe you should ask it on a merchant's page. - - D. Cello 19:41, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

The only weapons I'm aware that can do that are the laser rifle, laser pistol, and the three Alien weapons "Blaster, and Atomizer/Disintigrator from MZ"

I see someone left out A3-21's Plasma rifle off the list of rifles. 20:19, October 25, 2012 (UTC)

Plasma Rifles don't belong on a Laser Rifle list. Agent c (talk) 20:24, October 25, 2012 (UTC)

Simulation Variant AER-9[]

In Operation: Anchorage! (The Quest)

As you +

Power Armoured Soldiers (Winterised T-51 B) spawn into the battle and often hold Gauss Rifles, Flamers, and what appear to be AER-9! (Laser Rifles) I can target in vats. I have obtained the shock sword, however I must have a L.R. can I knock these from the hands of the Power Armoured Soldier(s) (wearing T-51 B)? --70.130.41.99 00:19, March 16, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I guess you can try, but, according to the GECK, the only difference between the simulation laser rifle and the regular version is that the simulation version can't be dropped. They both have the same damage, health, spread, everything. Paladin117>>iff bored; 00:38, March 16, 2013 (UTC)

Player desintegration possible?[]

Can this weapon (and its similars) also be used to desintegrate the player if scored a critical hit by enemies?

Classification[]

The real world uses a classification system up to Class 4 (not 5, as currently mentioned in the article), per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_safety. I would like to see the source for the Class 5 reference, or this information should be changed accordingly.
