1.02 patch: EXP glitch[]

I seem to be getting 20 xp the first time I take mantis forelegs from the corpses of their previous owners (which causes the corpse to explode). I think this is kill experience granted a second time.

Anyone else confirm? I'm on the Xbox 360 24.27.46.248 08:17, December 18, 2010 (UTC)

Haha I take that back, I can replace the mantis forelegs in the corpse and gain XP for that, then take them out for XP again. Infinite XP glitch.24.27.46.248 08:21, December 18, 2010 (UTC)

---

I ran into this a while ago. I was in Vault 22 and, when I picked up the Mantis Forelegs from the Giant Mantises, I recieved bonus xp. It was a smaller amount though, only about 5xp, but that might just have been because I was level 26 or so when I got there, making the experience lower. (PC)

Edit: The Mantis foreleg page says that the glitch involves moving the limbs between containers in certain locations. --CptMuddles 14:25, December 31, 2010 (UTC)

Variants[]

Do all of these variants actually appear in-game? Ausir(talk) 22:57, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I believe so. --User:Cartman!User talk:Cartman! 17:17, May 20, 2011 (UTC)

Zion mantis[]

Is the only difference to a regular giant mantis the size? --User:Cartman!User talk:Cartman! 17:17, May 20, 2011 (UTC)

Extra experience glitch[]

I only seem to be experiencing this with the mantis groups situated in Vault 11 and Vault 22 along with the ones just in front of 22's entrance. Noteworthy? Great Mara 17:56, June 22, 2011 (UTC)

Giant mantis nymph EXP twice[]

I seem to be getting +2 EXP whenever I simply walk on top of a dead giant mantis nymph. It seems like the game is giving me the EXP for having "squashed" the mantis, therefore killing it, but I had already killed it. Its only 2 EXP, but it's still a glitch. Confirm? --74.14.44.9 20:48, August 7, 2012 (UTC)

Mantis XP Glitch in Honest Hearts[]

Repro steps for Mantis Nymph double XP bug[]

I thought I'd leave repro steps for anyone who wants to verify the mantis nymph double XP bug, since it isn't 100% of mantis nymphs but can be reproduced 100% of the time in certain situations: (1) Although the nymphs in and around the Goodsprings schoolhouse do not exhibit this property, if one of the Mantis Ootheca's is shot to produce additional nymphs, *those* nymphs will produce double XP if shot and then stepped on. (2) The nymphs in the cell at the highway patrol office along the route from Primm to Mojave Outpost exhibit this property. (3) The two nymphs in the Nipton Town Hall (often killed by mines before being encountered) will give experience when stepped on even though they are already dead. Strength required to kill Giant Mantis Nymph by walking on them ?[]

Giant mantis nymph
Young giant mantis. They are much smaller and weaker than adult mantis. With a high enough Strength, they can be killed simply by walking over them.

What strength is "high enough" ? - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 18:14, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Checked in the game, strength is irrelevant, power armor is irrelevant. Walking over / jumping on all three kinds of nymphs has no effect, crippling their limbs only makes them move away, but they cannot be stepped on. Currently checking back with some folks, unless they show me a way, I will probably axe that statement on the article soon. –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 07:12, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
Update, answer was actually already in here, one section above. Destroying Mantis Ootheca's can release a swarm of nymphs, which can be stepped on and killed. However, this also has nothing to do with strength, just did it with STR 1 without problems. –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 07:21, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
Great minds think alike. I tested as well last night walking on the Nymphs that come out of the Ootheca in the Goodsprings Schoolhouse all the way down to Strength 1. I was able to kill them easily just by walking over them even at Strength 1. I see from the article page, there are 3 different HP nymph variants - 1, 5, and 15 HP. Presumably, the ones coming out of the Ootheca are the 1 HP nymphs. I am in the process of testing the two outside the schoolhouse and the 5-6 inside the schoolhouse that are not from the Ootheca, I have gotten up to Strength 6 so far and have not been able to kill any of these by walking on them. Will finish testing this evening and report back. (sadly I can't just check the GECK ... test/playing on xbox 360 FNV ultimate edition) - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 19:11, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, as Mara pointed out in the page history, some may be stomped on even without having to destroy an ootheca first. So we changed it by just removing the "high enough STR" part, saying that some can be killed by walking over them. –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 06:05, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
