Problem[]

As Nitty said on my page, 'Mutant Geckos' might just be an expression. It doesn't mean they are called Mutant Geckos, they look little Little geckos... Insane! 02:20, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

THIS IS A MOD OFF OF PLANET FALLOUT[]

This is a mod from planet fallout posting link ( http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/mods/204/Geckos-Modder-Resorce )

No, it's not. The modder and the New Vegas developers simply chose to recreate the same Fallout 2 creature. Ausir(talk) 07:32, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Did you even look at the pictures on planet fallout

i know the Gekos were in fallout 2 i know obsidion would want to add them back in but the chance of the title screenshot containing geko that looks identicle are insane.

Did you even look at the pictures of the original Geckos? Lil gecko Its not surprising that they both look similar as they are drawing from the same source material. Ishotamaninnewreno 08:16, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

They are enemies? Nu! In Fallout 3 with MMM, they are peaceful little cutie pies! Fun to watch travel along alone. Its sometimes fun to follow them. I don't want to have to fight them. Mannleigh 22:15, February 9, 2010 (UTC)

If you knew them the way FO2 gamers knew them you would.Aryeonos 06:45, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Pre-war specis?[]

does anyone have any speculation on what type of species these geckos would have been before the war? I'd really like to add what they might be to the article. NukaBot 19:11, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

We don't add speculation to articles. --Kris User Hola 19:31, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

You know those geckos? The little ones? Yeah, it's them. Hope this helped.JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 19:38, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

Lol. ok. NukaBot 18:42, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

Wild wasteland?[]

Insert non-formatted text here

It says in the article that Young Gecko hunters are non-hostile with the waxky wasteland trait. I am using the wild wasteland trait, and they appear to be non hostile, but only if you dont attack or get to close. I thought maybe there detection AI must have been bad. Wasteland Jesus 22:31, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

It doesn't say it is because of the trait, only that it may be. They sometimes appear friendly, sometimes appear hostile but will not attack in either case (unless you shoot them). Mictlantecuhtli 23:09, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

"Little" Geckos[]

Is it just me, or does this page need to be retitled just "Geckos"? There's no reference to "little Geckos" anywhere in FO:NV. DannyShotgun 09:19, November 19, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, so this page needs clean up. Geckos are like one of the main creatures in the Mojave. If no one minds, I'm going to take so time cleaning this (including Fire and Golden Geckos) DannyShotgun 03:52, November 25, 2010 (UTC)

Green Gecko Hides!!??[]

Ok, I just completed Honest Hearts, and during it i was psyched to get the green gecko hides for the 4 craft-able armors, but lo and behold, after killing, like, a ton, i received a grand total of ONE!! Unreal... anyone else having this problem? Also, I'm gonna re-play it on another playthrough (for the 2nd ending) and has anyone discovered a place in Zion where they spawn all the time?? --DrunkenSushi 06:24, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

I've been having the same problem. However I had better luck than you, netting about 10 while playing Honest hearts. I have gone back 5 times now to see if I can get more, but it seems like they only spawn a hide about 1 in 20 times. Its not just hides either, it seems most killed have nothing. The other geckos list the percentage next to each item they spawn (hide, meat, egg) when killed. Can we get this listed for the green geckos as well? They are either bugged or its by design, either way its very frustrating to kill countless numbers of them only to yield a couple hides. ReapTheChaos 05:39, June 16, 2011 (UTC)

Green gecko hides do seem a little scarce, I've gone back several times and completed both endings and have only gotten 7, 2 of which I tanned and used to make gecko backed armor. The resulting armor weighs 2 pounds more than the total of all the material used to make it. How does that work? DarthOrc 05:58, June 16, 2011 (UTC)DarthOrc

I have no clue, only the reinforced metal armor does that, adding 5 lbs to the weight. Leather adds zero, reinforced leather and metal both add 3. ReapTheChaos 07:15, June 16, 2011 (UTC)

Just to add onto what I said above, when you’re playing the honest hearts quests, I would make note of where you come across them. Then fast travel back to the southern passage and wait 3 days, then go back to those areas and farm kills like that. If you wait until you finish the DLC, the wildlife is substantially lower upon each return visit. At least in my experience, when your playing the DLC, green geckos are spawning around every corner, but when I go back I’m lucky to kill a 6 on the entire map.

The only “guaranteed” location I know of is the fishing lodge. However this is not much of a guarantee mind you. There will be 3 geckos that spawn inside of there, they may be green geckos or regular geckos. What I do is save before opening the door then go in. If I don’t get at least 1 green gecko hide I reload. You can then fast travel back to the southern passage, wait 3 days, and do it again. ReapTheChaos 07:04, June 16, 2011 (UTC)

My experience seems to have been that the first Green Geckos ALL dropped Green Gecko Hides as loot. Once there were enough to build one of each armor type, that was it. I killed dozens after that. None would EVER drop another Green Gecko Hide. My theory is that only the initial Green Geckos drop hides as loot. Then they respawn but no respawns will ever drop Green Geck Hides.--Oznog 20:22, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

'Legendary' Fire Gecko[]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the Legendary Fire Gecko actually called this in the game? I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure when I played it on PS3 it was just called a Fire Gecko and was much larger than the other ones. Then again, I could be wrong. Yes-Man 09:46, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Fire geckos and abominations.[]

If fire geckos are considered abomination, as stated on the page, shouldn't they be added to the list on both the Purifier and the Abominable perks? I would add them but I cant verify that they actually count for this. ReapTheChaos 05:50, June 16, 2011 (UTC)

Fire Geckos do not increase my count for "Abominable" challenge. Furthermore, they are affected by Animal Control perk, which gives up to 10% additional damage against them. So I don't know what challenge or perk does treat them as abominations. They are not affected by Animal Friend, but it is not enough to count them as abominations.

I don't see where the fire gecko is listed as abomination. In NVgeck they are classified as mutated animals and don't count for abomination challenge but for animal control. This information is erroneous and should be removed.--Croquignol (talk) 10:17, December 15, 2012 (UTC)

Friendly Fire Geckos[]

While Fire Geckos are usually hostile even when you have the Animal Friend perk, they were friendly when encountered when picking up the Camp Forlorn Hope Supply Shipment, (I had the Animal Friend perk). This has occurred every play through. Is this normal? Are Fire geckos friendly any other time or place?DarthOrc 06:07, June 16, 2011 (UTC)DarthOrc

I had a similar situation but with a Green Gecko. Found it by The Spine in Honest Hearts, but I don't have the Animal Friend perk. Might be a bug. Sig-coneSig-cone-talk

Unadressed problem[]

It is unadressed that the Giant Green Gecko is way more difficult than a Giant Cazadore or in my humble opinion, a Deathclaw Alhpamale. Maybe it's a glitch, but these b*stards swat me 6-8 times in a period of 1-2 seconds, one after the other, straight through 20 some DT and level 8 endurence to kill my level 35 Character in roughly 6 seconds after he had full health and if I recall correctly Med-X and Psycho. I guarentee Med-X was on. Am I the only one having this much trouble with them, because I can essentially fistfight deathclaws and Yao Gui but these guys always kill me even if I am packing 10 odd stimpacks. What's worse, I see 5 at a time. I even resorted to Very Easy Mode to kill one and still barely won. On that same account, I can beat a pack of 5 cazadores in Normal Mode with no antivenom and limited Stimpacks. Troy242621 04:48, July 5, 2011 (UTC)

I've been having this as well. I've died at least six times to these freaking things. I'm not sure if anyone else is having the problem where they don't appear on the radar, then seem to just drop out of the sky. I mean, I'm sneaking around some of the upper-ranges, with NO surrounding cliffs, do a complete circle to check for red blips on my radar, and next thing I know, I've got one falling right on top of me like it was some d@&% deathclaw doing a leaping attack. If it matters, I'm on the Ultimate Edition on PS3. Just glad I'm using a chem-head build focused on Turbo, I'd die practically every time if I wasn't. 98.255.47.25 09:34, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Green Gecko Theory[]

Could these Geckos been the result of the Vault 22 spores? I mean they are both green, and the spore plant spit is similar to that of the Green geckos spit. Sneaky Snake 07:15, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Golden Gecko spit[]

I know fire and green geckos spit, and I think I've had a golden gecko spit radioactive liquid at me. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it should be added to the article if they do. IPure Rapid 18:56, July 1, 2012 (UTC)

I think you are right. I've seen this in game too, and in geck they seem to carry a short range imbedded weapon similar to the fire gecko. but I never saw their melee attack cause radiation damage--Croquignol (talk) 10:34, December 15, 2012 (UTC)

Recheck for Fire Geckos[]

Can we recheck the Fire Geckos for being counted as Mutated Animal or Abomination? I just received the second Animal Control rank sniping Fire Geckos outside of Red Rock Canyon. Great Mara (talk) 05:09, February 22, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, as mentionned above, they are classified as mutated animals, count for the animal control challenge and not the abominable challenge. They are nowhere mentionned as abominations except in the article here, so it is probably an error and I have removed it until someone can bring any evidence they are abominations and not mutated animals. The animal friend perk doesn't work with them because it doesn't work with them, not because they are abominations.--Croquignol (talk) 00:35, February 25, 2013 (UTC)
