My word...[]

Quite possibly the most awesome to be encountered throughout the entire game, next to Vengeance. Harry Callahan would weep with joy.

Agreed, this thing is kickass, one good sneak shot to the head and most things lie dead. --SkyHi 18:48, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

I was basically bored of the scope so i used the G.E.C.K to remove the scope, its pretty fun to use now, mainly because of the better screenshots i can make

Sheet Music[]

You can grab these at any time. Well, technically, you have access to Vault 92 at any time, but that's just excessive note making. I generally get my first one before ever venturing far from Megaton over at the elementary school, a long time away from the Blackhawk. --DarkJeff 17:15, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Opinions[]

  • An interesting revelation that goes over most peoples heads is that the Blackhawk renders Lincoln's repeater nearly useless, as it uses the same ammo, shoots significantly faster, is much lighter, is slightly more powerful, and even has a scope. One thing the repeater tops out on is clip size magazine/cylinder capacity (15 as opposed to 6) but to quote Revolver Ocelot, "Six shots is more than enough to kill any living thing that moves." The exception to the rule being the Behemoth, of course.
    • There are some weak points in comparison to the Lincoln's Repeater, though. Those include less durability (360 vs 600), higher spread (0.3 vs 0.0) and higher AP cost (32 vs 25). It should also be noted that it's much easier to repair a Lincoln's Repeater than the Blackhawk because hunting rifles are commonly found on super mutants, mercenaries, and wastelanders in general.
      • This class of weapon is best used as a finisher. With it's superior rate of fire to the repeater, the Blackhawk dominates in this role. Open with a named sniper rifle and use this to finish. Sell bottlecap mines to offset the cost of ammo and purchasing vanilla magnums to repair it. It's worth the cost and you need to keep your sniper rifles intact as they are much harder to maintain. Ol painless lacks hitting power, vanilla sniper rifles wears down fast, and energy weapons suck. Use the Blackhawk.
I don't really see how the 5 more points make a difference. The Repeater is going to kill anything you headshot anyway, especially since its low spread lets you snipe just as well as with the Blackhawk. The only normal enemy that will survive a sneak attack headshot on normal is a Deathclaw, and that is with extremely few HP left. You can easily finish it of with any weapon or with the help of a companion. And since Hunting Rifles are far, far more common than Scoped .44 Magnums, in addition to the difference in weapon HP, the difference in attack power is almost negligible. Even though I hoard every Magnum like it was made out of gold and regularly visit any shop that carries them, they remain fairly elusive. Hunting Rifles are carried by almost every faction out there, meaning you're more likely to keep the Repeater in perfect condition than to have it lose more than one point of damage. They're both two of the best weapons in the game, easily, but there is definitely not a best one out of the Blackhawk and Lincoln's Repeater.--Mehbah 16:58, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Unqualified comments like 'energy weapons suck' are simply not usefull. Why is everybody so obsessed with the idea of THE best weapon. One of the most interesting elements of this game is, that there is none. The usefullness of a weapon depends on the situation. I use VATS a lot, so Repeater > Blackhawk, but it is the other way round in ego-mode.

It's important to keep opinion sections to the 'Discussion' pages, good move. And to address your comments, competition is the nature of life. It's not just a part of human nature, it's part of the wild we were born into long before we came down out of the trees. ;) Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 17:17, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
True, so true ... --CryonBrion 10:31, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
It should be noted that whether you choose Commando or Gunslinger affects how well the Blackhawk will work. Given that there are a plethora of high-power two-handed weapons, particularly in mid-late game, with less AP cost per VATS firing, I'd take Lincoln's Repeater more often out of sheer practicality with the Commando perk.

... However... I DO like the idea of pretending I'm Harry Callahan. :D So... --Kajex Firedrake 02:56, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

I use the Laser Rifle. Not the Wazer Wifle. Not the Gatling Laser. The Laser Rifle. I'm not obsessed over which weapon kills my enemy the fastest. If I want to do that then I just use "kill" in the console. Not being the absolute frickin' best makes the game fun. PlasmaFox 03:01, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

RL-3 and pals

"Old war bots never die. We just rust away!"

You know what else makes the game fun? Muttering "Do ya feel lucky, punk?" right before shooting raiders in heart ;) Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 03:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Also, RL-3 makes the game a lot more fun, too. His comments are so patriotic and awe-inspiring. As well as humorous.PlasmaFox 03:09, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Nothing like a fresh breath of propaganda. Between him and the Prototype medic power armor it can start sounding like G.I. Joe's Sergent Savage moved into your brain... Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 03:17, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I completely forgot about that armour! I should go grab that sometime, but I -love- how the Ranger battle armor looks on my character.PlasmaFox 03:19, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

In-game damage, wrong?[]

Hey, I'm not sure if this is just because I have one-hundred in my Small Guns skill, but on my game it says the Blackhawk's damage is fifty-eight, not fifty-five as it says here in the article. I just received the Blackhawk from Agatha, and it's in perfect condition. I was wondering if fifty-eight is the actual in-game damage, or if it's just because I maxed out Small Guns. ~~Takoto 14:44, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Nope it's right, the extra 2.75 damage you are getting is because you have the bloody mess perk 80.47.180.84 00:33, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Best weapon in game[]

ur so wrong the strongest weapon is obviousely the mirv. 1 shot of that pwns 8 shots of the black hawk and lincols repeater with the best perks and all the stats.

Yes but its ammo is less common.....and expensive.....plus 44.Ammo doesnt cost that much to buy/find......Plus you have to hunt down a bunch of crappy transcripts....go through 3 levels of boredom and into an armoury that can be glitched into.....plus you cant kill yourself with the blackhawk. So there...shut up now 94.171.9.94 12:56, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Stupid Annoying Issues[]

For some reason I can't make a head shot in VATS with this weapon, ever. My 360 freezes each time... Does anyone else have this issue and know how to fix it? I've invested so many perks to my best character so that head shots are effectively one shot kills. It would suck if I can't completely own with VATS and this weapon because other than this issue the weapon is the second best small gun to the Lincoln Repeater which is AWESOME!!!

Oh right.... (Munsterd Oslam 02:12, 20 June 2009 (UTC))

pistol character[]

I recently made a character and decided to forgo getting commando altogether and limit myself to gunslinger and pistols and it's the most fun character I've had so far. It may have something to do with me also trying out unarmed for the first time as well. Blackhawk + deathclaw gauntlet = most badass character in the game. I also use sydney's ultra smg and the dart gun but honestly I only use the dart gun when I'm sneaking and I barely touch the smg anymore since the blackhawk is so much more fun.75.138.195.167 06:37, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Charon with Blackhawk[]

Give the blackhawk to Charon. He is so awsome with it.--Дикий Человек Вампира 21:08, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

glad that worked out for you at least, whenever i try to give charon a weapon that uses 44 ammo he burns through it insanely quick, lol--Toolazytomakeaaccount 01:18, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

No scope when obtained[]

After equipping the Blackhawk, I realized it had no scope, it looks exactly like Paulsens Revolver now. Is this a bug? Alpha and Omega.... 05:01, October 11, 2009 (UTC)

More likely a mod... WMK?84.156.93.93 20:34, February 9, 2010 (UTC)

damage value issue[]

i think the damage value must stay at 55 . cause it changes with other additions but still in wikia we always right the original value with only the skill is 100 on regarding weapon . cause of course the values are varrying every time with lots of changes --Replikanxxl 12:08, October 18, 2009 (UTC)

about the picture[]

the gun looks silver on my PC . is it really black like in the picture ? --Replikanxxl 12:25, October 18, 2009 (UTC)

Getting the Blackhawk[]

Is there a way to get the Blackhawk after having completed Agatha's Song and not giving her the sheet music?--82.38.212.27 12:16, November 1, 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, just return to her when you do have one and she will give you it.--Radraider 01:39, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

About the Blackhawk name[]

While Ruger does make a single-action revolver named Blackhawk I'm not sure if that statement could be made due to them using a double-action design in-game, although I'm not sure if that was just not wanting to made a single-action pistol model in FO3 on the developer's part. Maybe if they had called it Redhawk... Great Mara (talk) 00:08, November 18, 2012 (UTC)

The Ruger Blackhawk is a Colt Single Action Army clone, essentially, and bears no resemblance to the weapon in-game. The weapon in-game does appear to look much more like a Ruger Redhawk, considering that it does seem to have the Ruger emblem on it:
Rugermark
Now, the question at hand is: Does our current RWWR policy apply here? It states:
Similarities between in-game weapons and real-world weapons are not to be included in articles, with the following two exceptions:
  • If there is a sourced quote from a game developer stating which real-world weapon the in-game weapon is based on.
  • If the in-game weapon shares the exact name of the real-world weapon.
Well, it does share the name of a real world weapon, but not the one it's seemed to be modeled after. As the note in question was written, [1], I would say it doesn't meet inclusion criteria more because it is a vague reference to a weapon that has little in common to the in-game weapon (other than a similar name), rather than it breaks RWWR. I agree with Mara, here. If the weapon was named "Redhawk" or the weapon in-game looked more like a SAA than a Model 29/Redhawk, I'd say leave it. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 00:59, November 18, 2012 (UTC)
