I'm sure those were mentioned in one of the magazines as being held (like Brahmins) at Goodsprings. Kamuikaze 23:30, February 9, 2010 (UTC)

Where did that picture come from? 124.182.120.219 08:44, May 26, 2010 (UTC)

that picture is from one of the stills that were posted on the NV blog. it's in the background from where you see a guy in a vault jumpsuit using a golf club on a man with a pistol and fedora. as for who posted the picture of the Big Horner on the wiki, it was me (Shibbie68). as you can see, i'm not too tech saavy on here, and so i wasn't sure how to post the picture properly. but then again, nobody else seemd to notice the Big Horner in the pic, so i had to do it myself.

The article states that they are "Mutated Bighorn Sheep". It is later stated "It is believed that they are a mutated bull or ram". One of those in incorrect and shoul be fixed. I'd do it myself if I knew which statement was true. WastelandChocobo 02:26, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

As there are Bighorn Sheeps in the mojave desert, which are also called "bighorns", it is very doubtful, that they are anything else than mutated bighorn sheeps. So the later part in the text is wrong. --Mr.Lexx(talk) 21:09, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Do we know the name definately or is it just speculation? SamtheDeathclaw 04:25, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Oh sorry i accidentally undid the wrong edit. Tezzla CannonUser Tezzla Dog 17:06, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

Wording[]

It's fine that you fixed the wording now jasper, but undoing the edit he made when that edit made more sense than "contains an Overwhelming attack" isn't grammatically correct. Try to avoid doing that in the future. ---bleep196- 17:15, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

Invisible Herd[]

(XBox) On the railroad between NCRCF and Nipton, not too far from the Prospector's Den, I suddenly ran into an invisible object. The name of the object was "Bighorner". When I walked around it, I also found "Bighorner calf" I fired my weapon into this invisible mass, and a few seconds later the entire herd slowly materialized and went hostile (where the entire lot were blitzed into a gooey death, but I digress). --DaedalusMachina 03:49, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Jacobstown Bighorner[]

Im not sure what causes this but occasionally one of Lily's bighorners will become hostile and start attacking the other Bighorners and one of the super Mutants has to put it down. Can anyone else confirm, explain or has expierenced this?

Lilly herself says that the bighorners sometimes get 'ornery', so perhaps it was supposed to happen.--DrMGinius 01:07, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

New Picture?[]

This one is pretty blurry and only shows the head. Can Someone get a new one up? --99.7.1.83 01:05, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

Ah, thanks for that revision to Bighorners. I couldn't recall the name of the town and intended to go back and change it before I submitted it, but I didn't make a note about it and forgot. Much appreciated Anonymous stranger. :)

sweet, gentle creatures?[]

i asked lily what she does at jacobstown and when she said bighorners are sweet and gentle I was stunned because I'm level 20 now but I was level 8 or 9 at the time and was under-equipped when I came (for rex) and because the bighorner bulls and cazadors gave me a hard time i almost cried. i am level 20 now and I'm much better at the game now and I have every good gun and black ranger armor and raul just felt like saying that. --N00BHUNTER666 18:53, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

Cut Scene[]

Got head-butted by one and the game changed to a third person view cut scene of my character flying through the air but I didn't die, instead it returned to first person and I could get up and fight on. I don't think this happens with any other creature, is it worth mentioning on the page? Bwilderbeast 19:54, January 26, 2011 (UTC)

It's a knockdown effect. Its like when you get a critical hit on an enemy with the Gauss Rifle and get knocked down.--BOSPalidan 00:04, January 28, 2011 (UTC)

Bighorners falling over[]

Anybody else notice this? When a Bighorner charges you it will often fall over after the attack, regardless of if the attack hits or not. It can make for some funny times, especially when you're watching a whole herd of Bighorners fall over or go flying through the air. I wonder if it's a bug, or intentional. Confirmed on both PS3 and 360.

58.161.209.244 14:13, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, just had this happen to me. They keep bouncing backwards and flopping around. It has to be a bug with the latest patch or something because I've never seen it in the hundreds of hours I have played previous. 71.103.172.200 10:33, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

Flying[]

Okay, so suddenly the Bighorners have decided to start flying backwards after each attack.. Sometimes it seems as much as 30 feet high in the air landing on their backs. Dont matter if they hit me or not, as long as they complete their attack animation they get tossed backwards. Whats the dealyO??

Yep, I just noticed this as well on PS3. Never happened until recently. 71.103.172.200 10:34, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

Furthest Headbutt?[]

Mine was by a herd near the Ivanpah Dry Lake, above the Caesar's Legion safehouse on the cliffs. I got headbutted and flew off the cliffs, came down in the middle of the dry lake and then the corpse of the character skidded to the crashed plane. Mictlantecuhtli 01:34, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

Wow... did not even think Bighorners were that dangerous. User:Great_MaraUser talk:Great_Mara 01:37, August 8, 2011 (UTC)
Without Stonewall the headbutt attack by Bighorners can send you flying quite far. I haven't noticed it as frequently with all the patches, the above mentioned incident happened right after release, before the first patch. Mictlantecuhtli 15:35, August 9, 2011 (UTC)

Reference(?)[]

I noticed that the bighorners looked like a bantha from star wars, so I put that as a "behind the scenes" section of the page but it was removed, anyone know what was wrong with that? JaketheWastelandWanderer 22:51, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

You can't add a reference just because you think they looks similar. We only accept cited references with a direct quote from a developer that confirms it. Hope that helps. -ΣΔLet's talk! 22:53, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

Attack Ghouls on Sight[]

It never fails. Whenever I get overwhelmed by the ghouls near Caesar's safehouse, I run back over the hill and the Bighorners come charging straight for the ghouls even if I don't have Animal Friend. These guys have saved my skin so many times, I just love them.

Is it possible people use bighorners for fleece and milk? Vault 21's menu mentions "blue bighorner cheese".

Characteristics - to agree final inclusion[]

Biology[]

Bighorners are herbivores and are primarily found in wild herds of three to seven in the Mojave Wasteland, or in domesticated drifts of varying size in settlements such as Goodsprings, near Jacobstown, Spring Mt. Ranch State Park or around Cottonwood Cove. They are a communal species, when one member of the herd is affected by a loss, as a collective the herd will react[1]. When domesticated, the lose the ability to take care of themselves, since those bighorners at the Matthews Animal Husbandry Farm have become emaciated since their owners were killed.

They are generally "laid-back" beasts with surprisingly docile dispositions, in spite of being quite capable of being extremely dangerous when provoked. However, according to Easy Pete, they cannot be used as pack animals, as "they just lie down until you take it off". This statement is supported by the fact that no bighorner is ever seen carrying a pack in-game.

  1. NVDLC02FollowsChalk.txt line 60: My guess is one of the calves got lost somewhere along the way. Bighorners are communal - one missing calf, and the whole herd gets ornery.

Discussion[]

Added from main article to talk so final agreement on what should and shouldn't be included. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 08:54, May 12, 2017 (UTC)

OK, so if we can add "according to so-and-so", how about "They are generally "laid-back" beasts with surprisingly docile dispositions, in spite of being quite capable of being extremely dangerous when provoked, supposedly" (and reference to Follows Chalk statement here) "even being presumably capable of attacking human camps"? Kazeite (talk) 12:42, May 12, 2017 (UTC)

Original version is fine. No addition needed. The problem with "presumably" is that it's an assumption. Since Chalk is only talking about Zion bighorners, if his quote needed to be noted at all it should be noted in the 'Notes' section or 'Lost Mountain bighorner calf (Honest Hearts)' section. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 13:16, May 12, 2017 (UTC)

"The problem with "presumably" is that it's an assumption." - well, yes? That's why I choose this word. If Chalk assumes that riled bighorners are capable of attacking settlements, then "presumably" is a correct word to use, isn't it? And, ingame, there's no difference between Zion bighorners and Mojave bighorners. If we're not adding Chalk's opinion to the article because it can't happen ingame, then we should be consistent about ingame stuff, right? Kazeite (talk) 13:46, May 12, 2017 (UTC)

Bighorners attacking settlements is a speculation based on an individual's speculation without a solid fact to back it up, as such I have already Mooted correction it's inclusion. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 13:52, May 12, 2017 (UTC)
"there's no difference between Zion bighorners and Mojave bighorners."
If that's the case then there are even less reasons to note bighorners attack settlements as the ones in the Mojave don't. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 15:02, May 12, 2017 (UTC)
"as such I have already Moore's it's inclusion" - I don't understand what that means.
"If that's the case then there are even less reasons to note bighorners attack settlements as the ones in the Mojave don't." - How... Why does it matter? There are no differences between them, ingame, our in the lore. And besides, that's not what I want to do now. All we're noting that Chalk thinks they might. "According to Follows Chalk, angry bighorners may even supposedly attack settlements" <- that kind of stuff.Kazeite (talk) 16:12, May 12, 2017 (UTC)
Sorry that was a typo, it meant to say mooted. Like I've said before it is too speculative, so let's move the discussion away from Chalks speculation and focus on the factual information. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 16:17, May 12, 2017 (UTC)
Ah, okay. Mooted :D I think that even though it is speculation, it's worthy of inclusion because A: It's tied to a quest, and B: it's supported by the fact that bighorners do get aggressive when approached. Kazeite (talk) 18:16, May 12, 2017 (UTC)
I like the pun. As part of the biology I would say no, but as a note then maybe. I think that should be a separate discussion though, otherwise we we're going to get side tracked from the matter at hand.
Well, the thing is, I've tried to come up with a way to phrase Chalks statements as a Note, and couldn't came up with anything sensible. Maybe you guys could suggest something then? And regarding Biology section, how about saying that bighorners can be "unpredictably" dangerous/aggresive/whatever? Kazeite (talk) 20:32, May 12, 2017 (UTC)
Seeing as the discussion dried up on this, i have updated the above with what i feel was missing. Unless there is any objections in the next few days i will transfer this over. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 06:57, May 18, 2017 (UTC)
Sounds good to me :) Kazeite (talk) 19:32, May 18, 2017 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Transferred over as 72 hours passed since my final offer with no objections, giving a full 9 days open for discussion and deliberation.

Sorry, was on vacation. I still maintain there is no need to add that section. It is entirely based on one character's speculation (I thought you already disallowed that) in an expansion as story flavoring, which isn't even true in the expansion - the Bighorners do not attack even if the calf is not returned. What's the point of that sentence then? If it MUST be noted, again, it should be noted in the scenario (and the non-effects) and not the main page. It adds nothing to the main article except speculated confusion. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 13:11, May 25, 2017 (UTC)
Well I don't have an issue with discussing this issue again. I had mooted inclusion of line 61, which mentions stampeding settlements and is speculation ontop of speculation. Line 60 is the section I was willing allow change on as it does include factual information. Being a communal species is biology rather than gameplay attributes.
