Background[]
Because the automated nuclear alert system initially came in garbled, Luann was confused about the situation above ground, though she had suspicions that air raid sirens were going off. However, she and her co-worker George soon heard the bombs drop above them while they were in the mine. Her worst fears confirmed, Luann wanted to stay in the safety of the mine, but George wanted to immediately leave. Luann thought he was crazy for entertaining such a notion while the bombs were going off, but George was concerned that the mine would not hold. Luann tried to stop him from going up top, but George left her anyway, and Luann was deserted and alone as more bombs went off. Their fates are unknown, but they likely perished in the mine, as it is sealed upon discovery by the player character.[1]
