Gladys Filtcher was a farmer who lived in Appalachia before the Great War.
Background[]
At some point, Gladys saw a number of military vehicles approach her farm and begin fencing off the northern part. When she asked what was going on, she was told that there were dangerous levels of radiation nearby and the land was being claimed by the United States government via eminent domain.
A government employee gave her a check worth an extraordinary amount of money to keep her silent, which she accepted, citing the need for money in hard times. Gladys always had her suspicions about how dangerous the area really was, but Flavia Stabo's investigations with a Geiger counter confirmed that the farm only had a negligible amount of radiation.[1][2]
